I have a 30x40x14 detached garage. Vinyl sided with shingled roof. OSB sheathing, 2x6 studs. No insulation or interior wall covering. I would like to heat it up to 60 or so while I am out there working. What do you all suggest? Thanks.

It’s not a matter of luxury..........it’s more common sense or lighting $20 bills when your heating.

What they said...........would you try to heat or cool your home with no insulation ?

Rule number 1 when trying to condition the indoor air.........seal to control the air exchange rate and insulate !

If your set on not insulating........run a torpedo heater with the door open.

I just did a 28 x32 last week and I bought the R13 bats for the walls for $260 from menards and the ceiling I had a company blow in the for $600. So for $860 I had a fully insulated shop. Just save a few paychecks to do that before you buy the heater. I feel like 6 months of running the furnace would pay that money back in savings.

But regardless I think an 80,000BTU ceiling hanger Mr. heater from menards for $500 would do it. I have the 50,000BTU In mine that's about $400. since i'm insulated it will cover 1,250sqft and i'm only 900.

Maybe best you can do for temp, unless you want to install something like a 45K or 60K gas/propane heater.

your heat needs are totally different pre & post insulation, and different sized heaters required for proper performance. look at buying the heater sized for when you're insulated , and adding supplemental heat to that while you have no insulation .

Open trusses. With insulation comes sheetrock for the walls and tin for the ceiling. I do not want to install fiberglass batts with no sheetrock, I am concerned the craft paper would catch fire while I am welding.

My thought was a job site heater of some sort or a wood stove. I am sure I can scare up some free firewood somewhere if a wood stove would get some heat into the building in a decent amount of time.
