$8 for all. Case is an old Napa New Britain case. Sockets are all USAmade cman, proto, challenger, new britain and husky. Some long C craftsman sockets. Irwin EZ outs included as well. Found two interesting size sockets as well.

There's several of those in the Wrenching News past auctions, they say they are "saddle bag wire cutters), and one description said maybe military related.

Thank you Heelspur. I dug around and found one in their 2014 auction. I always lose myself in their photos!

Further digging led me to a place with many examples of the cutters in different brands. Seems this design is heavily associated with Britain and British military.

tym, the other item in the SK film box looks like the fixed blade of a sickle bar hay mower. Note the hardened triangle-shaped tooth rivetted to the casting. Several of these bolt to the bar of mower for the moving bar/teeth to work against.

Thanks. The triangle-tooth has fine serrations that are still sharp.

There's a logo made of two interlocked diamonds on it. IHC?

Trying to figure out if it has any value before I scrap it (translation: does anyone here want/need it?).

I went back to Friday's estate sale today to take advantage of half price day. I found a pair of silicone sheets 3 ft. x 3 ft. by 3/16" thick. Another customer was a power lineman, and told me that these were used to lay over power lines to protect linemen from live lines. I found information imprinted on them that they are rated for 30,000 volts! Both have small holes burned in them, so that must have been exciting! I'll use them to lay on for cushioning, or whatever. For $5.00, they will easily earn their keep. They are shown in photo #1.

Photo #2 is the rest of the finds. From the rear, a carry tray that fits my Craftsman 26" top box, a pair of new Ideal brush seater and commutator cleaner sticks, Wizard HR1123 Circle Grip 8" pliers, Diamond C11 auto wrench, Williams 1116 1/4" Superrench obstruction wrench, small wood-handled screwdriver, Vulcan 3/4" NC forged eye bolt, and two Sure Shot sprayers that needed new air valve cores to work perfectly. $7.00 for all these items.

This is definitely a case of the "visually impaired swine" getting lucky. I had no idea Halon extinguishers cost so much, not only that, I didn't know it was Halon until I got it home and cleaned it a little. Thought it was a larger version of the normal ABC dry chemical ones.

And I gave the guy a hard time because it didn't have the wall mount bracket.

Now I need to know, do Halon extinguishers "go bad" with age and how much does it cost to service and recharge them if needed? This one is dated 1991! I see from a quick search that Halon 1211 isn't available any more and was banned back in the 90's!

That is why they are so desirable! That and the fact that they do not cause corrosion of delicate electrical/electronic systems like dry chemical fire extinguishers do.

I think Halon fire extinguishers have been replaced with a related non-corrosive type, Halotron. I believe Halon has certain health hazards that Halotron does not.

Local flea rained out, so I took my father and daughter out to two indoor shops. Spotted two nice OD metal barristers bookcases - one Art Metal (Jamestown NY) overpriced at $450, the other Globe Wernike ridiculously overpriced at $795. And a 1942 ordnance canister, unhelpfully unpriced. And a punch with “PAT OCT 29 95” stamped on it. I don’t see any corresponding patent on DATAMP, and haven’t checked other sources yet, but it does make me wonder what novel idea went into making a punch.
None of these were purchases.
Edit - I skimmed the US Patent journal for Oct 29 1895, and did not find a punch, leading to the possibility the punch was made from something else. Or, just as likely, I plain old missed it.

bmw, I was near the head of the line when the Rickreall Road estate opened. There were some interesting pieces but they were hauled off fast. I only got the Williams S52 and Plomb ratchets because the lady ahead of me only grabbed the Craftsman V ratchets! Everything I bought had been left behind by several other people.

Those look an awful lot like a set of Easco side cutters I have. They're my most used/most abused side cutters and they still work perfectly.

What is the red handled forky thing?

Looks a lot like a comb punch for leather. You use it to punch a series of holes in two pieces of leather so you can sew them together.

Yeah, I was there about an hour after it opened. I did find some '29 dated Snap-on 3/8 sockets which were mixed in with a bunch of other things. The Proto sets were still there, but they were overpriced.

Searched eBay and http://alloy-artifacts.org but couldn't find anything about Easco? The shape of the cutting head is pretty distinctive. Is Easco known by other names?

Possible but it seems like the suggestion that it is a multi tip Ice Pick is closer. Handle does look like ice picks I've had and similar tools are still sold.

Easco was one of Danaher's other brands. Generally, they were the same as Craftsman but sold outside of Sears.

Ayup, a quick "Gumtree" purchase on the way home from work.

£30 brought home:

> 1 x old GROVNER G-clamp (rusty one with the wing nut screw)
> 25 x Presto HSS micro drills still in packets (2mm dia and smaller)

Went to a going out business sale of a former welding, blacksmith, erector shop. Asking way too much for me to get excited but on the way out found a grill that had a Ford badge on it. The guy there swore it was for a 64 Falcon and I wasn't sure. Been hanging in a gararge for a long time and research shows it is for a 65 Galaxy. Off to eBay to see how it goes.

I'l start off with stating BB ***** for the umpteenth time for his Baby Bullet, I think that is the first Schiller Park one I've seen? Most (of any year) seem to be Chicago...

I also picked up .... a NOS (fairly sure, though it's tough to tell) P4521 Prentiss stove.

Merc, Those wedge stoves have a small following! Not sure the prices generally reflect that, but those that hav and use them like them quite a lot... if a P45xx it was made from 45-48. if NOS a Very nice find! (I have a P4821 - 48-51... that I picked up this past summer)

What are those fancy pliers used for? I was looking at them at the Q-Town flea this morning and almost got them.

The Eiffels were an early gimmick tool and came with a variety of interchangeable jaws. They were made from the 1920s through the 1970s. There is bound to be a thread on them here at GJ

The Eiffle Pliers were not that much of a "gimmick" Where do you think modern Plier Wrench derived from?

I put this in the new tools thread, but since it came from Craigslist, I'm posting it here. Garages sale season is over in my area this time of year.

Paid $150 for a like new MS461 that had been straight gassed, bought new piston for $38 and after cleaning the metal transfer out of the cylinder, this baby fired right up and runs amazing.

Not bad for less than $200 invested.

Huge machine shop estate sale on Fri., over 800 pics on EstateSales.net, so much stuff there it was almost overwhelming! Did any other members go? So big it was Fri, Sat. & Sun. I'm embarrassed to say how little this lot was. Highlights include the L&W dividing head with tailstock, nice Cushman 3 jaw chuck, 4 mini anvils, biggest countersink I've ever, about 2" in dia. There's a couple sets of gear gauges, ton of lathe mandrels, a circuit board vise that will be coming off the Power Arm Jr., new SB lathe face plate, and a 5C mill arbor.

There's a Starrett bench block and vernier height gauge, bunch of 5C collets and a huge pile of plates for dividing heads. The Numberall stamps in the case are pretty cool. Add in a Hardinge tool post, a couple angle plates, and a huge amount of smalls and it was a real good day. Would have liked to go back again, but I was at the big swap meet down in CT.

I didn't know this until I looked it up, but Easco used to be Moore Drop Forging. They were later eaten up by Danaher as bmwrd0 says.

I guess I always assumed that they were one of those Taiwanese brands from the 1970s that came and went. Aside from my side cutters I have two Easco flex-head ratchets and probably some more miscellaneous hand tools. The ratchets are decent to use and have held up to some impressive abuse, but nothing special from a fit and finish standpoint.

Yup, Stafford, did real good selling there, and only spent $25 on 2 vises and a Patriots hat. Nice to come home with a fatter wallet than I went with. I'd love to go to Thompson, and usually do, but this year I'll be in Fla.

Herbrand 1/2” extension and a Craftsman =V= cross bar. My third cross bar find of late.

Had to laugh due to the name engraved . So, happy belated birthday to Don, and I’ve found your lost cross bar. [emoji38]_hitti

Then, how about some mystery horse logo pliers? Searching led me to Kraeuter with similar handles. Any thoughts guys?

Arne- I thought of Diamond also as they're known for the horse shoe logo.

The brand name on the pliers is HORSEHILL. It's a bit weathered so can only make out HOR""""LL. makes sense wirh the horse stamp and what must be a winding hilly road in the backround.

The hand grip seems to clearly match some Kraeuter on Alloy Artifacts.

Also, AA has similar Kraeuter version of the pliers. No mention of Horsehill in their Kraeuter section that I can see.

So this box of sockets/tools I bought about a month ago for two bucks I finally got to go thru it last night, guy said there was some Craftsman and Proto sockets in it if wanted it. Took a chance...most of it was Tiawan, China, India, but a few craftsman 1/4 inch drive. then I spotted the Proto ratchet, socket driver, I kept digging found the extension, then hurriedly dumped the box out on the bench, found a full set of Proto 1/4 inch sockets as well. There must be 200 offshore sockets in the box...sometimes the tool gods smile on us.. stuck all in my craftsman box for now...

Some interesting things at the flea this morning. (Sorry about the early morning autumn light.)

Left to right, top to bottom…

- A vintage ‘LIGHTER-LITE’ (PAT PEND, Chicago) for a car cigarette lighter. It was in that zippered leatherette pouch.

- A FITZ-ALL adjustable wrench with a crude but clever simple physics-leveraging adjusting technique (1908 patent)

- Bonney No. CP3 Phillips #3 tip (1951 patent, but it will be good trade material) screwdriver

- A Perfection No. P-27 11/16 x 5/8 DBE wrench that someone made into a SBE wrench (I have never seen this brand in the wild, so a half is better than none…)

- Tiny Crompton & Knowles loomworks wrench, tiny no name combo, and spring-steel shop tweezers

- The silver round thing with a dial face is an antique Sears, Roebuck & Co. amp gauge

- The instrument in the box is going to be my next Quiz Game. Look for it on the Vintage Board. It’s going to be a doozie.

- No idea on the vise. It’s an interesting design, markings are strange, but it’s stout and slides like butter – and it was peanuts. So I took a flyer on it.

4". I was thinking Eastern European based on the shape and one of the markings on the jaw ("PJDb-100"), so thanks - but what had had me scratching my head was a decal in English. It must be an Importers add-on. Yeah, backwards F PU. Do you know what that stands for? To save you time, if I search on "FPU" in the Vise Megathread, will other examples and info come up?

Yes, the dovetail slide and the squat profile is what I found attractive, along with the way they hid the swivel handle tucked in under the body of the vise. I appreciate little things like that.

Not a garage sale but a Craigslist score. I don't see a lot of auto body tools for sale so when I saw these I acted quickly. I think I did pretty well. The box is solid, I'm guessing 1980's but if anyone has info please let me know. Snatched all of this up including the box for $600.

Box top-Blue Point grinder, Florida Pneumatic air nibbler, unknown USA 3/8" drill. NOS Snap On pull rods, Binks gun, Sata Jet gun.

Top drawers-miscellaneous specialty Snapon, Mac tools. Windshield tools, spray gun parts. Miscellaneous USA, Chinese screwdrivers. Most are beat up but are good enough for my 4 yeard son's tool box.

Fairmount/USA made body hammers and dolly's

Sanding blocks, sanding pads, Hutchins sanding boards, spreaders etc.

Body files and slap files of all shapes/contours, solder paddles.
