Damon18, those are Homeowner's boxes. Yours are not in the 1984 Tool storage catalog and in the 1992 Craftsman catalog the same ones as yours appear but they are grey, not red. So I agree with Outlawmws, late 1980's boxes. Neither catalog showed your mid box.

Edit to be clear in 1984 they have very similar Homeowners boxes, just not the same and different logo.

Yes, I looked all over for that vertical bar. The reflector looks unused, still has the large decal on the inside with instructions to remove it before use. The decal looks to have a date, 1974.

P.S. that blue disc next to the no. 0 funnel appears to be an original filter but the felt badly needs replacing!

Sometimes the best flea market finds are the tiniest! Sterling silver pencil holder with a good deal of the pencil remaining. My grandfather on my mother's side used to keep similar ones with a little clip in his shirt pocket with a little notebook. He came through Ellis Island to the US in 1917 not speaking a word of English and by the time I was born he was the foreman on a railroad track gang. A layman wouldn't think there was much math involved in that job, but he would be wrong. It was more civil engineering than prying, digging and pounding. Anyway, excuse the nostalgia, but just think about a time when this is how we would treat pencils. Sterling silver.

took Mrs Duddly for a drive through New England for our 40th anniversary and picked up a bunch of small items along the way. It seemed like everything was $2 - Here are a couple fun ones.
pic 1 - group shot notice the weird brace like thing(s) - 1st is a hill pump wrench ( http://www.datamp.org/patents/search/advance.php?pn=1243861&id=30742&set=2 ) but the other one has me scratching my head.
pic 2 - 1949 /50 powercraft and homecraft tool catalogs
pic 3 - cool little 1/4 g.m. co mfg 10 pc socket set
pic 4 - poor old Mossberg 355 - 100 years later the ratchet mechanism has been long since brazed shut, but it was still useful to someone. ( I couldn't leave it now could I? )
pic 5 & 6 - the "jaws" on the mystery brace like tool. only marking is PAT'd - it is missing one of the jaws and the screw is not original. Based on the caked on grease, I would definitely say automotive. Does anyone recognize it?

One more... If you ever find yourself in Hyannis / Cape Cod - look up the used tool store. Older (than me even) fellow runs it and he has a number of small clusters of old tools in there at very reasonable prices. I am not sure how many more years the gentleman who runs it has in him, but it is a real treat to shop his store.

I had hoped to get to the "Tool Shed" in Waltham MA as I heard great things but the schedule just did not align.

Also, I tried to recreate some of the classic Corona beach pictures... but with my own Dunkin Donuts twist... Mrs Duddly was happy with our non tool hunting time!!

Stopped by the Restore today, as I had to check my PO box. Found these amoungst the tools:

SK, MAC, Ray sockets and a British made pocket level. Then, on my way out, I spot this:

(the five is just on it for sizing) and when I opened it:

A mostly complete, 1/4" to 3/4" t&d set. All the dies were there and looked good, and the few taps it was missing I had in my stash. That just left one of the tap handles. I thought I had one, but the ones in that general size didn't fit the slots. Oh, well. One will turn up. They only had it marked for $10, so no hesitation. So the total was $13.

Bought the contents of a wall at recent online auction. The highlights was this 8 drawer West German made BOTT cabinet. Measures 26 x 24 x 24 and all the drawers are roller bearings. Extremely rare for me to find anything European in my area. Four large 8" American made c-clamps. Some containers of aluminum and stainless small stock pieces along with some miscellaneous tools. One 52" diameter 1/4" thick stainless plate plus around 25-35 dollars in scrap pieces. Paid 124.50 for everything.

Today's haul.

Bob-bet bait box "Just half a turn and there's your worm" made in Beaver, Wisconsin. It has belt loops in the back and the lid flips open.

The ditty bag is a salesman's sample. They gave these out with orders. I couldn't accept gifts, working for the Federal Government and all, part of the emoluments clause.

That BOTT cabinet looks well built. Jealous! Also, I have that same BOB-BET Bait Box that I found a few months ago ready to give to my father in law for his fishing camp "decor"

Don't get too ahead of yourself. It didn't sell, but the folks who came to pick up the leftovers found a nasty surprise in a yellow jacket nest. No clue how my neighbor (who owned it) and I moved it from about six blocks away (at night) and then from where it sat to the curb for pickup (around noon).

I've more than likely over extended myself this week. Picked up a large lot of Sun items. Some, I know what to do with, some I don't. I was raised to dang near worship the Sun cabinet my father had, and the others he used to have that held various machines. This is the first truck load, and there are probably 2-3 more I have to deal with. My initial evaluation is that 1/3 are NOS, 1/3 are used and in working condition, and 1/3 are for parts.

I also picked up a nice lot of Snap On / Blue Point tools, other misc. USA made tools, a NOS (fairly sure, though it's tough to tell) P4521 Prentiss stove.

Continuing on, I found a couple of items that Lugz will find interesting.

Army Signal Corps Case with various radio crystals. Not complete but not that far off.

Also, a "United States Army" wool blanket whose logo I can't seem to find on other wool blankets online. Not sure if it's legit.

Nice score on the 1945 contract crystal case! I don't know the details, but changing crystals was how radios were able to get onto different frequencies back in the day. Some radios had the capability to change, some didn't, largely based on the intended purpose and power of the radio (in general, higher power/longer range had more ability to be changed).

I grew up in the era when Dad would take the tubes out of the TV when it didn't work, and take them to the drug store to test them. The replacement tubes were in the cabinet under the test sockets.

BlueBolt - Apologies for the delayed response. The USAAF can is indeed dated 1942. Note, the United States Army Air Force was founded June 20, 1941. I've found a few USAAF things over the years at the flea. I've got a garment bag and some flight goggles I think.

WWII tactical and vehicular radios were the best for two reasons. First was crystal-based frequency control that eliminated having to tune manually. The second was the use of frequency modulation (FM) that eliminated all static and atmospheric interference.

A craftsman 5191. overpaid and turns out it’s cracked on the anvil surface, but i already sold a few parts off of it to break even. I’m still glad I bought it so I could see why these are some off the nicest rock island craftsman vises.


NuTyp 3-1/2 vise. this one says I.N.T. Corp instead of Sawyer. I paid the same as the parker 474 I bought a few weeks ago.

We got a late start to the first estate sale we hit in Martinez, CA arriving 2 hours after it opened. The tools were pretty picked over but we found a few things including some Proto screwdrivers. Along with the screwdrivers was a Proto ratchet repair kit which I’m sure I’ll use on a Plomb ratchet. The second sale in Castro Valley opened at noon and we were early enough to stand in line for a few minutes. This sale had a packed garage and we picked up some rusty treasures. The third picture is of the tools from the second sale. I really liked the Wards Riverside 1/4” socket set with the Duro made sockets that used to be a mystery until Twertsy IDed them some time back. The next two shots are of the Craftsman and S-K finds. The last shot is of the Blue Point/Snap-on tools.

Bagged89s10, does that Craftsman 5191 have a number anything like 5V7814S under the base? I think the spindle nut probably does, and the same-size swivel-based 5195 would have that number under the swivel base. Just been wondering whether the fixed base had the same or different.

That is who makes that case. I picked one up about 3 years ago with some 3/8" Plomb WF stuff in it. A year later I seen on the bay same case with the same WF series sockets. I thought it was a correlation. But this puts that theory to bed.

Took a walk up the trail on Haycock Mountain this morning, then a pitstop at the Quakertown Flea Market, which yielded some treasures. HDSmith Perfect Handle 18” Stillson wrench, USA shield (I think Red Devil) pliers, Eifel Plierench, Bonney industrial finish metric combos & ignition & dbes & linesman pliers, Disston electrician screwdriver, and a Duro Chrome ignition wrench. $28
Now downtown Allentown, ate a “mother clucker” sandwich at Robert Irvine’s Fresh Kitchen and a little visit with a George Nakashima bench at the art museum. I guess my foray into Bucks County put me in the mood.

The Eiffels were an early gimmick tool and came with a variety of interchangeable jaws. They were made from the 1920s through the 1970s. There is bound to be a thread on them here at GJ

Here is the restoration:







It has had a hard life as you can see from the saw marks and hammer strikes on the jaws and the strikes and gouges on the anvil area.

Still operates smoothly and at least it looks a little more dignified now.

What are those fancy pliers used for? I was looking at them at the Q-Town flea this morning and almost got them.

I didn't ask her the price. I had just bought a finish nailer and the guy down the end of the isle was waiting for me to come back and pickup a couple of storage totes I had him run out to his storage for. If I hadn't run low on cash I would have got it.
