Possibly replacing Gearwrench or even Carlyle? Your thoughts?

Better not be replacing Carlyle!

I wonder if this is extremely regional, at least to start? NAPA does a lot of region-specific stuff

If they can make more money on it I would think it's a done deal.

They have Craftsman at Ollie’s here. :willy_nil Big sign in the window about a Craftsman Tool buyout.

China sockets, wrenches, razor knives, beam torque wrenches, etc.. The only USA were screwdriver sets.

My local NAPA has been selling Craftsman tools for probably six months now. They still have a full selection of the tools they were previously selling as well (to be honest I don't know what brand those are.)

I have bought some very nice tools carrying the NAPA label. Mostly closeout stuff off eBay and manufactured by different companies, both domestic and foreign.

What keeps me away from buying directly from NAPA is their inconsistency. My local NAPA doesn't even stock Carlyle, which I really like. And the counter guys are so typical of todays retail scenario. They know less about their tools than I do and I've never worked as a professional wrench.

I think NAPA is missing the boat by the frequent changes in tool lineup and lack of consistency from store to store. I believe there are still walk in customers looking for reliability in product and inventory.

Napa a block away does not have Craftsman yet. They carry ULTRAPRO, only tool of that brand I own is this 1/2" drive long handle I found on road couple months ago.

Exactly. I own quite a few Carlyle tools (ratchets, wrenches and pliers mostly). I still have some of their rebranded Gearwrench stuff I bought years ago. I just don’t like the stores in my City. The tools are displayed behind the counter, the clerk acts like you’re bothering him if you want to see something... it’s not a pleasant, easy experience by any means. I don’t like buying online unless I can see and feel the tool in person... and with the premium price on most Carlyle, I can’t justify buying sight unseen. It’s a shame that they have such a fantastic lineup of tools and their marketing ***** ***. They could sell so much more if they just put forth the effort.

napa is stupid with tools. i am not a big carlisle fani have exactly 2 items and could take em or leave em. mostly because of exactly the reasons stated. i am convinced carlisle will disappear sooner later or because that is what napa does.

carrying craftsman tools in store is stupid. that would be like the local auto dealer bringing another brand of vehicle into the dealership to compete with their main brand yet not being able to offer any service or variety.

I go to a local NAPA since they carry 10W60 on the shelf.....have never seen a Carlyle tool in stock but have seen the Craftsman “sets”.
The Craftsman of Lowe’s seems to be mostly made in Taiwan.
But boy, they are proud of the product based on the prices and I was not so impressed.

They are a Milwaukee dealer now too. The one by me has a whole row of M18 and M12 tools.

I work in the oil and lube distribution market and I've never even HEARD of 10w60. Most everything here uses 0w20, 5w20, 5w30, 5w40 or 15w40.

My local NAPA has a whole section devoted to Craftsman. It’s almost as big as the display at ACE. Carlyle is still there but it’s largely off to the corner and typically half-empty. I have no idea what’s going on.
