I recall seeing another vise with the nut on the end for retaining the main screw.

Interesting that it appears to have the Parker type handle tensioner. is it operational? (is there resistance to sliding the handle?)

I believe the last vise is a Bonney. I have one like it but mine has the wrong lever for tightening the swivel base.

That’s a Bonney rapid transit and is very sought after. Would bring 300-400 plus on eBay.

I converted this $40 dollar garage sale find into a genuine Snap On. For this price I also don’t mind using it as a beater vise

Looking for a wood lathe on FB and this came up. It was only 15 minutes away and $35.00 :) It is my 1st Wilton "C" and will get cleaned up after almost 70 years. Date is April 1950

Sorry to jump on the "what is it" band wagon, but can anyone take a stab at identifying the vise in the pic below? It's coming up for sale at an estate sale this weekend and this is the best picture they have of it online. No description, really crappy lighting and I have no idea what they will be asking for it. The only thing I can give as a reference is the 14" chainsaw bar next to it. Looks like it has a small horn and a big anvil. Thanks!

Painted my daughters Parker 973 today. I’m going to remake the handle and add rubber bumpers for her. IMG_0597.jpg

Also have you seen my Parker 88-1/2 complete? I did find the pin for the vise jaws.

Very similar to an American Chain vise made in Bridgeport CT. I have a couple of them.

That vise of yours is very nice

Yes it is.
Here is a pic of my 3 inch ACCO. (American Chain Co.?)
It’s unusual to find a 3 inch vise that weighs over 60 pounds.

Outlaw: Maybe it was this one you remember seeing. I have posted these pics on this thread before.

Get: So based on that statement are you gonna follow the directive that is your screen name? :)

You couldn’t have passed that one up. If nothing else just list it as is on C/L and make a quick $100-$200
I sold a C1 in similar condition that had the swivel base but was missing one pipe jaw and the end cap. The buyer was thrilled to get it for only $200
I bought it the day before for $150

a buddy sent me a pic of a 3 1/2" vise asking if I wanted it, saying it looked good but didn't work right. Pic was a Reed double swivel that looked in ok condition and for $30 how broke could it be?? The "broke" turned out to be a frozen swivel pin which came out with punch from underneath. The jaws were excellent and the the jaw swivel looked unused. started to do a quick cleanup when the light bulb went on- No manufacturer casting! Hockey puck spindle, split ring front collar, Oil holes and a 1C swivel base but no 'Reed' anywhere and it has replaceable jaws? Any ideas on what this is?

Can't believe what big companies consider disposable. But I'll take it! Stamping on side reads 45FCPN. Is this a model or serial number? Jaw width is 4.5".
This replaced my smaller Columbian 504 which does not have a swivel base. It will get scraped and repainted soon.xmas

I have never sold a vise, I have given some away. It seems that they come in the basement and never leave :headscrat

This little vise is very well built. Yes, CP style tension spring in the handle. There are so many neat little things about this Vise I may have to make a short video. There is very little wear on this tool. Probably going to soak it to get the jaws screws and handle screw out. The handle resistance is right on.

Yeah it’s in real nice condition. I figured You’d know who made it. Quite amazing the quality of this vise. It’s got quite a bit of heft for a 2 1/2”. The catalogue shows a 1 1/2” model.

I havent posted in a while but I picked up a sweet Yost vise on Friday. Its an 8.5" vise and weighs 265 pounds. At first I thought it was a No 99. But after doing some cleaning a found a really wore down 108 numbers underneath the yost name. I think the 99 is just a part number or something because Ive seen it on a swivel base 8" yost as well. Anyway heres some pics

Please post pics after u take the wire wheel to her. I think everyone likes seeing those giant bigfoots !!

I think I saw this one for sale, was very tempted (especially at the price), but would have been a long drive. Nice pick up.

I believe it is a Reed. Not sure why it is unmarked???? Seen a Parker 372 (swivel Jaw) on YouTube that was also unmarked but clearly a Parker. It happens.....though they are rare....just makes them cooler.

Does anyone know about a Rock Island 136 swivel jaw. I may have the number wrong, but it looks like 136 on the casting.

bastel she's a Parker, a little beat up and missing a bit of jaw but it is a Parker. Could be a decent user if you could grab it for a little less money!

Agree, it is a Reed.

Check image #4 in the first post.

There appears to be grinder marks on the side of the tunnel.

Looks like the PO did not want the vise to be called a Reed.

JKB & cmccoy here's what it looks like after taking off the old paint and using a wire hand brush on it. greased and oiled it and up on the shelf it goes for now. cleaning also showed a born on date of 1269 and the static is stamped 1C under the date (just to the right of the lock down handle). Different surface texture where the Reed Info should be, so someone grinding it off is certainly a possibility.

Friend gave me 3 Cole #11's today. Came with a bunch of other tools he got at an auction and he didn't have use or interest in them (not sure I do either but we'll see) First time I've had one of these and they are pretty beefy.

Thanks for the response on the Rock Island 136. It doesn't seem to be listed in RI literature.Mine is missing the base but I am happy to have it anyway.
