At my local Napa (here in NM), they have the heavy duty floor jack and jack stand set on sale through the end of March...link is below (though it says nothing about a sale). The normal price for the set is $405, and the normal price for the jack by itself is $399 (which is not on sale). But the price for the set right now is $299!! I was in need of a new floor jack anyway, though I didn't really need more jack stands, but this deal was just way too good to pass up. This is probably one of the nicest and highest quality jacks you can buy anywhere and the sale price for that set is pretty much unbelievable. Not sure if all Napa stores are having this sale, but I know it wasn't just a single store thing.

Here is the 7916420 jack by itself:

Been eyeing that jack for a while. Thanks, I'm going to check it out.

It's not made in USA, but it is a quality piece.

Defintely do some checking, There are numerous different paint schemes that are identical to that jack that considerably cheaper. Napa is just like the other companies (snap-on, truck brands) that used to sell quality american made jacks and there price point isnt anywhere near close to the other retailers that are offering the Same jack at less money.

Yeah, I hate to say it but it's made in china. When given the choice, I try to always buy American made stuff...or really, non-made in china stuff. Kind of hard to do sometimes. But the thing is definitely pretty good quality and was the right price at the right time for me. I went to look at it just now and did not see a manufacturer's name on it - just "Manufactured for NAPA" on the sticker. Hopefully it lasts a long time.

When you factor in the "Package" Price its really not to bad considering you get 2 years worth of warranty. Without a doubt you could have picked up the same jack for around $150 with a different paint scheme but sometimes you pay extra for service and Napa has been around along time.

Hiball - Paint schemes don't matter to me. Where can I go to get this $400 NAPA jack for only $150? You seem to know. Help a brother out.

Thanks.

Bought that package for 250 ( could have been 299) about 3 years ago. It is ok. The bolt that holds the handle is did not hold the handle in. But a longer bolt in it and now ok. It gets used hard and I have had no issues. I bought it when I was told there were no more USA made jacks. My two Snap on Jacks are more than 13 years old and still work perfect.

Ive got to go to work and the internet here at the hotel blows, I will post some links when i get home in the morning. Those Napa Jacks are made by Shinn Fu, They build jacks for the majority of the retailers here in the US. Another thing you have to remember is with Americans being so obsessed with numbers and in this case "Tonnage" i would venture to say you could measure the working Ram on that Napa jack and it would be the same as alot of 2.5 ton jacks that are identical and made by Shinn Fu. I will follow up with some links tomorrow when i get home.

$300 is a pile of money for a Chinese floor jack. My almost 20 year old Chinese jack cost around $40.

You will find other retailers that sell this identical jack but it seems in the 3.5 tonnage range there is only a few, Remember Shinn fu makes jacks for Omega,Pro-lift, Sears and Many... Many other retailers. You can currently find a 4 ton (what a joke) small frame jack that is identical to this on at Sears for $149, In theory the 4 ton unit should have a larger diameter ram than a 3.5 ton but im guessing its the same.

The ram certainly contributes to lifting power, but the frame size and plate thickness also matters. Maybe a 2.5 ton ram could lift 8000 lbs, but the frame would crumble...idk.

The Ram diameter is the Main contributing factor in all hydraulic applications, IM not saying that a frame made out of sheet metal would work but theres not that much difference between the higher end Jacks and the Imports in that regard today. Your not gonna see a properly configured 2.5 ton jack lift 8000lbs for liability reasons, This is why there is safety overloads on jacks to prevent this very thing.

The link below is probably the same package Napa is offering.

A buddy of mine had bought a NAPA low profile jack, it had plastic wheels that got flat spots on them. Every time it hit a small stone in the garage it would it would stop and flat spot the front wheels.

Just look at the wheels before you buy.

Thanks. From the pictures, the NAPA is optioned a little differently, but it appears to be the same jack.

My car's only 2500 lbs, so huge lifting weights aren't an issue....

That is not the same as the NAPA jack, look at the mount for the handle, the NAPA branded jack is much thicker, the lifting pad is different as well.

Sigh.. As i said both these jacks are manufactured by Shinn fu to its customers specifications. They both use the same Hydraulic unit, have the same specifications but differ in color, stickers, handle foam and of course names.

I don't think there is anyone on here who knows more about jacks than Hiball. I'd listen to him!

I bought the same jack except mine was the quick lift. It's a chinese jack-Paid $249.99 for it on sale. Hate China stuff but I own it and a few other floor jacks. One thing I don't like with it is it requires a lot of force to lift a moderate to heavy load and several pumps too many to raise the load, other than that it's ok.

IN todays Hydraulic jack Import market it gets real confusing trying to determine what your buying, Im not trying to challenge anyones thoughts on a specific jack, Im just giving info based on actual experience based on rebuilding specific models and the bones of a jack. The fancy paint jobs, chrome hardware, foam handles doesnt mean anything to me, I base all my opinions on the actual hydraulic unit and type of seals used.

Thats pretty common, Its a combination of the Pumps ability to move oil (or lack there of) and the crazy tonnage numbers there advertising which creates a Heavy overload spring to discourage the possibility of overloading the jack.

:wtf: Sigh back at ya. I said it was optioned differently but appeared to be the same jack. Was that not agreeing with you clearly enough? I even said "Thanks", because, well, I appreciated you sharing the knowledge.

:bowdown: There, I'm agreeing with you and bowing to your knowledge. Feel better?

Is Shinn Fu the only manufacturer of this jack design? I'm wondering because it's common in China for lots of factories to make the exact same item with wildly different quality levels (tolerances, surface finishes, etc).

My other question is: Why haven't any Chinese manufacturers knocked off high end hydraulic units? It would seem to me that the seal type (o-ring vs cup seal vs whatever) would be proportionally the cheapest component of the unit. The Chinese are capable of manufacturing lots of stuff, and Shinn-Fu is already making those HW branded Lincoln (or are they Walker?) designs in the states, so why aren't they making decent jacks in China?

"Sale" at Napa just means their prices are only 25% higher than everyone else...instead of the usual 200%.

For that money you can buy a 2-ton Hein Warner / Lincoln made in USA. The difference is that the Hein Werner can be repaired while the chinese jack is a one shot deal. You can take the reservoir off and use it for a boat anchor though when it goes bad. I just had a 33 year old Hein Warner rebuilt - parts are still available, IMHO, that is what I would do. Northern Tool sells them for $319 but we can get them over the counter for $289 here in Sacramento. Someone in NM should be able to match that or come close. Chinese jack stands are easy to find at any HF. The 6 ton ones go on sale all the time for $29 a pair.

If I were to buy another Chinese made jack, I would buy it at Horror Freight and pay no more than $60 on sale. As Hiball says, it is pointless paying more for the same rebadged Asian jack. Fancy paint schemes and reputable brand names don't change anything. They are just putting lipstick on a pig.

Just for the record, there is a thread on this very site about how to rebuild older imported jacks.

I actually meant to quote "66HertzClone's" post not yours as he mentioned the pad, handle was different. On a side note i dont need anyone to bow down via the internet to make me feel better.

Last i knew Shinn Fu had a hand in making the majority of the worlds import jacks and supplied parts to the rest.

Plain and simple... Its not cost effective, There not in the business of Selling Americans a product that will last 30 years.

I have this exact same jack and stand set I bought from NAPA several years ago, it was on sale then at $199 and a regular price of about $350. The stands are very heavy, thicker metal than the ordinary cheap stands, and the jack is a quality unit that works well.

Only issue I've had with the jack is that recently the pump seems slow to refill when you raise the handle. Raise the handle fast and push down quickly and it goes way down before it catches. It used to fill the pump and pump a full stroke no matter how fast you moved the handle. I checked the fluid and added to it, cycled full travel to get air out, but it acts the same. I just have to be a little more deliberate about operating the handle than before. Could have to do with the cold this winter. Now that it is warmer, possibly I need to go try it again.
