I feel your pain, Strouty, I'm warming up in the garage right now, otherwise I'm outside chasing wiring issues with my plow and truck. 2001 K2500 Suburban. I hit a huge Buck (without the plow on, took it in the drivers front corner, HARD) two winters ago and cobbled the wiring together in the aftermath. Tonight it's coming back to haunt me and I'm paying for it as the snow piles up.

Good luck with your Suburban.

I think this winter is just going to be a cluster, between the possible move, my day job, my Dad and the family issues, and these projects, I will be lucky to get anything done. At this point I know that I can make this truck plow, I just don't know how painful it is going to be to do that. In order to fix the exhaust, I have to remove the manifolds, if they come off, great, if they don't I may have to remove the heads, so I figure it will take me a week or two depending on what needs to be done. Then I can work on the maroon one piecemeal so it doesn't have to come off the road completely.

No real snow yet, no work done at the shop, I was in the office today. I am thinking Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be the next round of work.

Nope, only delayed, storm is going to hit us overnight through tomorrow morning. They are saying 8 to 12” now. Once it has past they will be able to tell us how much snow we actually got. ;)

Got about 3 wet compacted inches last night, another 1 1/2 today, and will get another 6-9 overnight into tomorrow.
First time plowing with the ATV. Mixed results, but it got the job done.

All in all, I think I’d rather go back to raking leaves.
Had a bad sign concerning the upcoming winter. Lots of woolly bears in the yard this year. Last week, I found one in the mancave down in the basement.

You know it’s going to be a really bad winter when the caterpillars are saying “eff this, I’m going inside”.

All buttoned up here. Local weather Charlie said recently that the real winter will set in Jan/Feb, but should have an early spring.

We got a dusting pretty much stopped here at 1am.
More of chicken and sky is falling reaction here. The children will be upset that school is not delayed.

I have had more of those things in my shop this year than I have ever seen in my life.

Here in Saco the kids got a 1/2 day of school on Monday - of course it really didn't snow AT ALL after they pulled the trigger on the 1/2 day - but at least its not a day that has to be made up in June. They got a full snow day on Tuesday. Hard to say how much we got but I went out a few times to stay on top of it AND make sure that we could get in and out.

We all enjoyed sledding on both days. Now of course I am further behind in work, projects etc . . .

I would be seriously unhappy with that much snow on the ground. It's snowing here right now, but i doubt it sticks at all. We've got almost nothing in the forecast thru next weekend.

I'll be honest, I miss the old winters where you started getting snow about this time of year and it didn't go away until the beginning of March.

What is this snow stuff you are talking about? I am still in short sleeves.
Willie, it was snowing here in South Florida but it didn't reach the ground. I believe it starts to melt at about 10,000 feet. At ground level it was in the mid-60s today and I also was in short sleeves working in the yard. One of those rare days when the sun felt good.

Bob I'm a little bit north of you but when I got up this morning there was ice on my windshield and it was over 70 by lunchtime. This will be my second winter since moving south and I'm growing quite partial to it.

I think I may have worn a jacket three times in the past year. I don't even own a heavy coat. When everyone else is all bundled up I am in short sleeves and sweating. I do have to wear gloves to handle scrap metal when it is cold because that starts to hurt pretty bad after a while. My wife knows to bundle up if I wear a long sleeve shirt.

On the flip side we can comfortably spend all day outside in the summer here!

My ex wife was from Minnesota ( big mistake never marry a redheaded Minnesotan). She kept wanting to go up to visit. I asked when good time was. She said well the winter is too cold and snowy, then there is black fly season, then mosquito season... We never went.

In the mitten state we like to say we have 2 seasons, winter and road construction. They're still working road construction, and probably will be for at least 2 more weeks.

We seem to have days that interfere with construction otherwise continues through most of the year here.
Of course we have enough emergency repairs on infrastructure that traffic is permanently screwed.

Well aren't you lucky. Down here in Jackson we've been enduring I-94 construction for a year and a half. We're going into winter 2 now and it won't be done until next fall.

Between you guys, in Lansing, (you know where MDOT is Headquartered), we'd love to see some REconstruction going on, like on I-69 in the Dewitt area.. how the contractors ever got away with the whoop-de-dos that they layed down is beyond belief - i've seen travel trailers with all wheels off the ground over that section..

Strouty did you solve the block heater wiring issue?

In Maine we also have construction season, summer is like three weeks in the overlap of a few of those.

You forgot Mud Season. Towards the end of the melt, but before the black flies hatch.

As for the rest of you, you have no idea how bad construction season can be. Try living near Boston during the 20yrs of the “Big Dig”. That was when they dropped the elevated Interstate into a tunnel through and under downtown Boston. Routes and lanes changed almost on a daily basis, and a 45min drive could take 2-1/2 hours.

Thank goodness that’s finally over. Now you just have to deal with the normal traffic congestion. ................ until Pot Hole Season begins.

This is truth. Last weekend i helped a buddy bring back a mill from Ionia to Saginaw. That section of I69, running behind him, i saw his trailer go airborne. He said it wasn't bad, but i about crapped my shorts seeing 4000lbs of mill and trailer jumping off the road.

LOL - I had to drive that stretch on my way to work for about 4 years - short wheelbase trucks (98 Rangers for instance ) really pitch. I-69 is the main route from Indiana to Ontario for RV haulers delivering to Canada. A lot of newer trailers don't have shocks. They get an amazing amount of air..

Sorry for the thread hijack Strouty, hope you have a good set of wheels if the weather really goes t*ts up out east..
