It is just over 9’6” tall, pretty heavy too. I don’t want to get rid of it yet, if I end up moving to the Hill, it will have a future spot, if I don’t, then it will be time to let it go.

Thanks Shorty and Jim, I started out lucky today, went to drop off recycling and found $60 soaked on the ground.

Then admired the hard work I did yesterday.

Then I checked the conex boxes to see if they had leaked due to the door closure issues. First one not too bad, just a little bit on the floor, second one looked terrible, then I realized it wasn’t water, it was hydraulic fluid from one of the tanks, loading in the dark, I set it down so it could flow out the breather, oops.

Almost all cleaned up now, but will leave a huge stain since it is wood floors.

Working on removing fuel tank from chassis, picking at things one at a time. I would like to leave tonight with the chassis in pieces and those pieces loaded in the trailer. I may be overreaching a bit, but got to have a goal, right?

I try to set a goal every night for the next days work, if I stay on coarse I do well if I get off coarse it seems to take a week to get back and productivity goes out the window. Good luck

I had to drain the plastic tank that was from the old duramax chassis, ended up drilling a hole in it to make it easier to the fuel out. Then I pulled apart the seat from my maroon burb, wanted to save some parts that fit other seats, rest is scrap. Then I ate lunch and watched some youtube vids. Now I am going to cut the straps on the mounted tank in the burb chassis, then I have to drain that one. After that I just need do everything else.....

I bought those at an auction for something dumb like $75 for both with all attachments. I have some older equipment that is harder to find drums for and some of my big trucks are disc, so I thought it would be worth it to have them. They will take a crazy sized drum, stuff you would see in big front end loaders. We will see, they are a PITA to move right now, but they are in the new conex and out of the way. Plan was to have then under a roof, but "outside" (think lean to) so when you need them, you use them, then they stay covered. I can also make a small base that can be grabbed with the forklift easily, then they would be stored on the pallet racking.

It is windy and cold, with temps dropping quickly, had to empty the diesel fuel from the first tank into the heating oil tank, brrrr.

I am looking over the chassis and trying to figure out how I will approach getting one of them galvanized, looks like the front crossmember is all welded and most of the rest are riveted (a couple are bolted), you can't remove all the rear ones without making the frame too flimsy, looks like I could take some threaded rod through holes that will be used to put the frame together, nuts on both the inside and outside of the rails, that would keep it from spreading or collapsing and hardly mess with the galvanizing process.

I have never removed torsion bars before, some say use the special tool only, some say use a 2 jaw puller, others say dismantle the front end and let everything droop. We will see how it goes, a bit nervous, but seems like the 2 jaw puller should work well enough. The only issue is, I may have to soak the parts overnight to get things to release, or I heat everything with the smoke wrench.

Trying to get all the wiring harness out of the truck now, having trouble with two plugs, apparently GM glues them in, heat gun is the only good way to get them out.

I can tell for sure that I am not making my goal, I had not taken into consideration the fact that I had just worked two crazy long (for me anyways) days in a row and I feel like I have been beaten with a 2x4. I am getting all the fuel related stuff done tonight, will oil things up, then pick up a few more loose ends of stuff floating around the shop. I feel like tomorrow is another day and since I got almost all the yard cleaned up yesterday I am actually ahead of schedule and I did a bunch of things I had not even considered doing. Overall good progress and I am happy about it.

Tank is out, drained, working on cleanup now.

I put the chassis on some skates so I can shift it easily. Need to do some unbolting tomorrow so I can pull the trans and transfer case out. Then I have to figure out where that is going, kind of forgot about that. :( All I really have left is outside storage, although, I may be able to shove it in one of the boxes out back, will have to investigate tomorrow. Would be nice to have it tucked away for now.

The biggest issue is all the little things that need to be done n top of what really needs to be done. Like tonight, I drove off, only to realize I still had 25 gallons of parts washer solvent in the back, forgot to unload it, even forgot I wanted to clean out the parts washer. Then I realized that I don’t think I want to fill it before I add a rugged base with wheels. One more thing that has fifty parts to add to the list of a hundred other things with fifty parts each.

Yes sir that is the problem I have wanted to start my truck project all summer but I told myself I needed to get the domestic list done first, couldn't put the gutters on till the under ground drains were installed, couldn't fill the trench till the new electric and pex going to the well was put in but had to trench another 120 ft to the house. And on and on. It's a very vicious circle. Get your head straight and attack that elephant one bite at a time. Your Strouty you can do this.

I figure worst case, I can chop the chassis in half and get the rear section out before the snow hits. I also forgot to mention that I am bringing the water tank inside, the snow plow, the Mitsu blade and probably the stubby table. I also need to haul the forklift off to the Hill, should be interesting to see what actually gets done. I felt I was ahead of schedule, but now I feel like I am a few days behind.

Late start this morning, GF was getting ready for Black Friday, then I forgot to reset alarm, I guess I needed the extra sleep anyways.

Overall pretty good, but I could feel it yesterday. I did something dumb on Tuesday, as soon as I did it, I knew it, I had to pick up a butcher block top and was trying not to scratch it, just was a very awkward strained position. I have been a bit more careful since, but I know if I hadn't done that, it wouldn't be aching as much.

I am dragging my feet, haven't even showered yet. Good thing is that most everything I need to do is inside, so it doesn't matter if it is dark out or not, I just shift my working hours. Still waiting to see how much snow we are supposed to get, I have a couple things that I would prefer not to bring inside until I really need them inside.

It is way too easy to make a mess. I have so far spilled diesel fuel and transmission fluid on the floor. At least there won't be any antifreeze. The more I look at things, the more I want to get the frame out and cut up. Might bring it outside and flip it over, seems like it will be easier to get to the bolts. I am removing a bunch of clips and hangers now, then the trans and transfer case, also need the steering box. Not sure from there, but I figure this is today's project.

I hate spills.

well at least you have an idea and somewhat of a plan....

Get things out of the way while you can before the "storm" comes along.....

So as we all know things change, well, sitting and looking at things, I think the frame should stay intact for now, I am going to need one to help make my body dolly and rotisserie frame. I am still taking the trans and transfer case out, actually have made enough room to put it out back in a box. Then I will stick the rolling frame out back until I am ready for it, but it will be all stripped and to go. Still need to get the rear bumper off as well as snake the exhaust out from over the rear end. I pulled all the clips and parts that will be useful in the future, the steering box is the most important thing, I need one for the maroon burb, bad. This will allow me to get moving on other things that are ten times as important as this frame, what those are, I haven't decided yet........

;)

Got the chassis to where I think I need to be, going to pull things outside now, then pick up the smaller mess I made outback making room to get the trans and transfer case inside.

It came from Queens, NY, it had been hit in the front at some point, some broken welds and bent parts, never noticed it when I drove it, but it was super obvious when I pulled it apart. Originally I was going to galvanize it, but once I saw the damage, I put it on hold. Got the frame out, all the extra parts (except the steering box) are out, got the front yard cleaned up, even moved the Mitsu blade and stubby table to where I can get them with the inside forklift. Both the orange forklift and the white forklift are made by Baker, so I guess I will call them the Baker Brothers, Baker and Baker.

Going to get the ramp truck now, taking Baker to the Hill.

I just got home, Baker has landed at the Hill, one less thing to think about and it is only Friday! The storm is supposed to be overnight Sunday, so I should have time on Sunday as well.
