Lugz- did you ever figure out what this thing really is? I picked this one up today because I could see it has (part?) numbers on it.

Well, THAT is definitely a strap wrench. I have one just like it, sans the part number.

If you're referring to the thing I found a few weeks ago in which the strap was pinned to the handle in a permanent un-adjustable loop, no, I never did definitively identify it. Others think it's an early strap wrench. I am still not convinced of that.

Dag, you’re right - I had forgotten the key point! There was a chilling breeze and standing water at Jake’s this morning, leaving me brain-numb by 11am.

Cbacres ,check that ratcheting tap wrench, if it's made in Germany, you can throw the rest of the stuff out and you'll still be a head.

Picked this up today. It hung in the trade school in the town I grew up in. Trade school was demolished 15 years ago or so.

It’s amazing how dumping a morning’s picking into a single pile diminishes its apparent value. I spent a little less than $25 on all, and the first pic really makes it look like a waste of cash.
But spread it out and sort out the true trash, and what’s left looks a bit brighter! 4pc 3/8-7/8” Barcalo DBE set w/clip, Barcalo adj auto wrench, nested-diamond C’man pliers, Ford-script slipjoints, VacuumGrip dikes, strapwrench, Vixen convex file, three Champion (I think Stanley) quilt clamps, hose nozzle, some handles, Bonney DuroChrome & Bridgeport DOEs, C’man obstruction screwdrivers, sewing machine screwdrivers & oiler, GoodellPratt handle, unmarked try-square, red Japan socket holder, handful of copper roofing nails, various hole-filling 1/2dr sockets, 3 S-O + 2 C’man hex keys, screw-on shoe cleats, etc.
Plus, as I was about to discard the dust and ****, a ball bearing rolled out that exactly fit my V-selector 3/8dr C’man ratchet, which has been languishing in a drawer for a year - now back in business!

Must be a Vixen file day in PA I bought a N.O.S. vixen file in the plastic, and one on the wooden handle. I also got two 18" Black Diamond Farrier rasps for 5 bucks.
You should come up to Renningers Flea market in Orwigsburg some time.

I would like to get down to your area but drive so much for work during the week it is hard to do it on a weekend.

I actually passed on a flat one mounted in a holder, because I couldn’t make out the name on the side and the holder was missing a couple parts. Plus, the vendor never offered a word of encouragement.
I probably will branch out a bit in the spring. I meant to go to Leesport more than I did, and I haven’t checked out Willow Glen. I’ll put Orgwigsburg on my “to do” list, too. Last time I passed that way was to hunt some fern fossils near Saint Clair.

Well, I'm not in PA, but close enough... Outlaw always likes to point out the eerie Garage Sale thread synchronicities... I literally just pulled this NOS Heller out for some potential trade fodder photos and it's the first time I have even looked at it since I found it at an estate sale a few years ago!

Picked up one of these NOS Union hacksaw frames from the 'bay seller some GJers had mentioned here. Sadly the hacksaw was left to slide around loose in its box, which was jammed into a flat rate envelope.

After gluing the box back together, it's in serviceable shape.

Picked up a Mini-Ductor II with the coil kit at auction this weekend. Paid 88 dollars for it and it's in great condition. Been looking for one of these for quite awhile, just didn't want to pay the price of a brand new one.

Yeah, that’s how mine was shipped too and one of the reasons I bought it was that it came with the original box.

Excellent Barcalo finds, and the Vacuum Grips aren’t bad either.

I revisited the estate sale I hit yesterday because I realized that the Allen wrenches I left behind came in the Craftsman set I picked up there yesterday. Besides those, I found a Proto spinner and Challenger 12mm combo I had missed along with a Vaughan & Bushnell diamond point chisel. That’s a new one for me!

What a grab bag of goodies, LS--I love it when a well-mixed box of tools yields such gems! That Nickel Molybdenum "X" wrench is a Bridgeport, of course. Well done!

I didn't even know such a thing existed. Now I'll be looking for one for sure. Seeing what new ones go for--that was a great price!

I find it funny how you guys across the pond get all excited about German tools.

I used one of those ratcheting tap handle on almost daily basis at work for 25 years . It and I retired and 5 years later , it's still works great. I bought a cheap look alike for home use, first time I tried to use it, it went in the garbage.

Canadian Tire sold them under their Mastercraft brand for a lot of years. But they weren't cheap.

Reluctantly went to an auction last night. They post very poor pictures and the only thing I saw that looked interesting was a small vise. It was 40 deg, raining and a 30 min drive but a decided to go anyway. Glad I did. The vise turned out to be a Columbian 804. To make the trip even better it was the first item auctioned. Ten minutes and $18.43 got me headed home.

Toto, those Steel plate vises are sort of on the rare side! Nice find!

Kinda rare is right.

Random GJGS thread magic: I was searching through the 2017 thread for something completely different when I stumbled across this 804 vise find by bargainhuntingking and elaborative post from jakemac:

I have 4 of those, one stamped w Germany, indeed quality stuff. I prefer the greenfield ones though, the forged one piece tap handles.

The dirt pile that just keeps giving! I swept up the detritus and my attention was caught by what I had earlier dismissed as a broken toy. It IS missing something, but what’s left is far more interesting than I had imagined.
Anyone have an idea about when this hard plastic item was produced, or who made it? Part of a playset or an individual cereal premium?

Oh, and yes, I wrote NewBritain, but meant Bridgeport! Fixed it now.;)

I don’t think that one is wartime. All of the military wrenches were raised panel. The double grip wrenches were made during the war but weren’t used by the military, as far as I can tell.
