I think they are war era.
War finish. Have USA stamped on them.
Some of the sizes were not made until about 1940+
They show up in the UK.

Picked this up today. 936 1-1/8” line wrench. Cadmium plated on all surfaces including open end. No date code. What patent do you think it references?

That's actually their water pump packing gland/nut wrench, LS. They do make for handy line wrenches. I'm on my phone, but if you search on water pump wrench on this thread you'll find others and the patent in prior discussion.

Welcoming insight on this box that popped up, and I find myself smitten with. Can the experts pinpoint age, and validate original condition (as best as the pics might allow), and what constitutes a good deal, as I like it, I just don't like it retail.......Thanks in advance!!

Early 40s k55. Looks like nice shape. Seem to go 75$ to 200$ around here. They were available in red as well.

I took a chance and picked up this torque wrench at a Sonoma estate sale on Friday. I wasn’t optimistic about getting the dial apart to try cleaning it. I soaked it in WD40 for two days and gingerly pried the ring off. I cleaned the face of the dial with Formula 409 and cleaned and polished the lens with Meguiers Plastic cleaner and polish. It came out better than I expected and seems to function just fine. I took a family picture with my inch pound and Bell System wrenches.

The other tool in the first picture of the previous post is a tiny cad plated Blue Point ignition wrench which I added to the set in my WW2 Navy box.

The pliers are wonky for sure. But another huge anomaly that needs caveating is Ferret tools. Some of the late wartime Ferret handles have the leaning/italic logo. My hunch is that was the first line they started converting the dies on.

You have referenced a "leaning/italic" logo. Recently I purchased a few Snap On Ferret tools that have an interesting "joined cursive" logo that I have seen only on a few Snap On Tools with 1947 and 1948 date codes, including the following: a 1947 F4L Speeder, a 1948 F4L Speeder, a 1948 FU8 Universal Swivel, and a 1948 F-181 3/8 9/16 shallow socket. I would like to know if this logo was used by Snap On before or after 1947-1948. Do any of you GJ members know?

By the way, the "newest" SO tool I have seen that has the word "FERRET" on it was manufactured in 1948. I have attached an image of the manufacturer's markings on the tool, an F4L Speeder, below. Do any of you GJ members know if SO put the word "FERRET" on any tools after 1948?

Here is a set, 52-54. That font mostly shows up early 50s.
49-50 was a big change year for s/o lots of model changes, also The Blue Point name on wrenches, hammers start to be changed to the Snap on name, so it would not surprise me that the Ferret name would be gone too.

Thank you for replying to my questions, snapmom, and thank you for posting a pic of your wrenches. I enjoy seeing images of your SO collection.

I have a question for you. Have you seen other Snap On tools with a logo similar to the one found on my 1955 Snap On XS-1618 offset box end wrench?

Is that an eBay photo? The background is very familiar looking to me.

Thanks, I wondered. For some reason, that seller has many names on eBay. That is an unusual logo. I’ve never seen one before. Good find!

Here's an interesting 10 drawer chest I'm having some difficulty identifying. Didn't see the same thing trolling through catalogs on CollectingSnapOn.com site. Anyone care to enlighten me. Model#? Approx. Date?

Maybe not officially "vintage", but really sweet reference to vintage snap on. Did everyone hit up their snappy truck for the 100th anniversary calendars?

I was curious to see if any of the tools in my Ferret set had the newer logo. I checked today and found that the speeder has the newer markings along with a G stamp.

For collectors wanting to build a ferret set: Box ID., post about 1931
The cats, for the most part, show the same pic just about every year.
So: to approximate date:
Decal, the triangle decal would probably be 40s, the oval prob,. 30s
the slot that holds the ratchet, the V slot would be pre 36-37, and after would be straight slot.

Here is an early set, no date codes so maybe 26, though not in the catalog. All 6 point sockets, 3/8 to 5/8, an f3, an f1 handle, some hammerheads, f2 and f6 extensions and a speeder. This style of socket ran through 28. Most of my examples are 6 point but I have a couple in 12 point and 8 point..20200131_230802.jpg

The same set is available in 29 but sockets have changed, and they change again in 30. A larger set is added with a ratchet (f7 push plug) and more sockets in 29. By 31 reversible f7 is added and smaller ferret set is gone. This continues into 32.20200201_070112.jpg

Which brings us to 33, the oval decal and the v shaped ratchet holder. Sockets remain similar until 37 38 when the f70n comes in the set and the ratchet holder is straight, the box gets a bit longer. Oval decal remains for a couple years.20181225_205329.jpg

Nice 36. 36 Catalog shows older style f70 in the set, f70n in 37. Seems like late 30s snapon introduced some new ratchets. Here is the 37 line up vs the previous ones...
