I dont know about that specific one but my old coworker at a dealership used the zero ratcheting flex head long wrenches from mac all the time and they work great. He used it on brake bolts, drive belts, etc.

I just picked a set up, they look great they feel great the finish is fantastic. I'm not to sure about the reverse button on the side as opposed to the lever. I feel like I'm going to hit it and reverse the thing in tight quarters. though I have nothing really to substantiate that fact yet.

They are nice an LONG here's a pic next to an 18mm C-man pro for scale

I've used the SK set for over a year without any problems. I do worry about breaking one though with the current poor health of SK warranty service though. I would like to get the Matco set but, I haven't been able to find a deal on a set.
The SK set is made by Kabo in Taiwan. If someone is worried about the reversing button, you may opt for the EZ Red version that you flip the wrench over to change direction.

I've come across quite a few situations where they are the only thing that will work in the space given, short of removing a half dozen other components or modifying tools to get the job done.

IMO the nonreversible version that doesn't have the small 'extension' away from the face of the wrench isn't near as useful. A friend has the reversibles in EZ-Red brand, but can't seem to find the set on their site...

I see tooltopia has the SAE set (http://www.tooltopia.com/ez-red-rf7.aspx), but not the metric.

Nevermind, found it (http://www.toolsource.com/metric-double-universal-spline-ratcheting-wrench-p-105105.html).

Do you guys use these to break the fasteners loose as well or do you use a non-ratcheting box end and then switch to the ratcheting? I realize you would not use them to break loose a rusted fastener or the like, but I'm wondering if these ratcheting wrenches are stout enough to break loose the majority of fasteners you run across?

Thanks

I will admit that I have double wrenched several ratcheting wrenches...they took it like a champ.

The only issue I've had with breaking bolts loose was with the 17/19, every so often it would skip and reverse itself. Other than that, the rest of them worked without issue breaking loose even corroded fasteners.

i used them to change a pulley on a Jaguar today as well as the drive belt and that little extra that pops out away from the face of the wrench is priceless. I was using a half inch breaker bar on the "slightly frozen" tensioner and struggled to move it, so i figured i would "test" the strength of these today. They worked great and took some abuse!

This set is on sale till April 11th for $335.95

With student discount it is 196.66 :bounce:

This is a ten piece set ratcheting on one side and box on the other. 10-19mm

If you want the five piece set, it has ratcheting on both sides, 8-10, 12-14, 13-15, 16-18, and 17-19. It lists for 279.95(student price 134.38:bounce:). That is 130 cheaper and you get an 8 mm which is much more common than an 11mm. This set number is SRFBXLM52T.

I agree 100%; I love the extended drive head. It lets you reach spots where nothing else seems to fit.

I have owned the metric and sae SK sets for about two years now and they have held up really well. I have had no problems busting tough fasteners loose with them. They are extremely LONG (the 17x19 & 11/16x3/4 are roughly 18.5'').

Are there any hand tool makers that produce the flexible, reversible, double box, metric ratcheting wrenches (with the extended drive head) but in the 12 point style?

I understand that the spline design works on 6 and 12 point bolts. However, I am leery of the compromises of the spline design due to it being compatible with 6 bolt styles.

I did not see on SK Hand Tool's website any flexible, reversible, double box, metric ratcheting wrenches with the extended drive head and 12 point ends.

Thanks,

Dave

Guys,

Are there any tools manufacturers that offer a flexible, reversible, double box, metric ratcheting wrench with the extended drive head and 12 point ends?

Thanks,

This afternoon, I ordered the SK Hand Tool
5 pc. XXL Double Box Flexible Reversible G-Pro Metric Wrench Set from National Tool Warehouse for $135.99 plus $9.95 residential shipping charge ($7.95 flat rate shipping charge to a business address). It is the lowest price I could find for the wrenches on the internet. Here is a link to the SK wrenches:
http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/xq/asp/N.5-pc-XXL-Double-Box-Flexible-Reversible-G-Pro-Metric-Wrench-Set/PID.SKT-89650/prodid.131127/TID.%7B4900E3B1-AFFE-4781-B478-202E3B7517DA%7D/qx/product.htm.

Amazon.com is selling those same wrenches for $156.99 with free standard shipping.

I've done initial loosening of transmission/engine mounting bolts with a 17mm without any problem.

Few things I've noted:
-the beams (I think they are the same thickness as the "SK") are a little too thin.
-when i apply torque on the beam (for initial loosening), I can see the hinged box flexing a bit. I wonder how many cycles it can take before the head starts becoming floppy.
-the reversing button can be a nuissance in tight quarters. In such situations you just have to me mindful when swinging back and forth.

Fedwrench, being a tech, have you noticed any floppyness yet?

Dave, I bought my 6-pc, metric E-Z RED (EZRRM6) from Tooltopia for $120.

The only company that I know that offers it in a 12pt style is "KTC".

No, but, I think it will come eventually but, I try to bust fasteners loose with the fixed end of a Gearbox first if it's accessible. I agree that the reversing button sticks out too far. I lust after the matco set but, they're pretty expensive especially when you have the SK set and Gearboxes.:wtf:

Superautobacs,

Thanks for the wonderful first-hand information and pictures!

In the future, when I use the SK flexible, double box, 0 degree, spline ratcheting wrenches, I will only use them to remove fasteners that have already been broken loose. A while ago, I pieced together from various eBay purchases a set of 14-22mm Snap-on, Matco, and Mac non-ratcheting, non-flexible, 0 degree, 12 point, double box wrenches (with the extended drive head). I will use these non-ratcheting wrenches on fasteners for initial loosening.

I looked at the picture of the Kabo flexible, double box, 0 degree, spline ratcheting wrench. The box end looks like a 12 point rather than a spline design. My eyes must be deceiving me! :beer2:

Tooltopia no longer carries the EZ-Red "EZRRM6" set. The EZ-Red website no longer lists the set as well. It could mean that EZ-Red discontinued the set even though other online resellers still carry them???

I just bought both the SK metric XXL Flex set as well as the XXL flex sae set based on the comments of those on this forum. I got the sets today and immediately put them to work. The wrenches have a great finish and rival American brands of ratcheting wrenches. I am not disappointed at all with the quality. Thanks for those of you who put your opinons on the forum both positive and negative. How the tools work on the job is the best review anyone could ask for. The web sites for any tool, including SO will promise you the world but may deliver much less.

Looks like one of this type wrench is perfect for a very hard to reach bolt on my bellhousing, so they are now on my tool hunting list. My friend had a EZRed set he bought off the Snapon truck, I googled a little and found the Platinum 99650 around $120 plus shipping. I think I only need one size, so I am going to see if a Vortex on a flex ratchet might not work as well.

I have the Ez red sets in metric and standard. I think the SK sets have better finish and mechanism. They are supposed to be from the same manufacturer.

The Matco's wouldn't do, the EZRed, SK, and Platinum 99650 (pict below), have the sockets in the box end "extended" on one side.

I'm going to bump this up from the dusty archives and ask if anybody knows is SK is still making the deep socket style of these? I couldn't find them on their webpage.
Looks like the EZ Red's have been dropped as well.
Looks like the "Platinum" is made by ATD?

Ideal SK has dropped everything that wasnt made in the USA, which includes all ratcheting wrenches. For what its worth Advance Auto seems to still have the old 90(?) tooth EZ Red sets with the raised ratcheting "socket" listed on their site. I think with coupons you can get it down to about $120. Otherwise you are correct, that style seems of been discontinued for some reason.
