Dlavalle, thanks. That reed is a beast, I can’t wait to see the new jaws on it.

Has anyone ever seen one of these Goodwill vises?

https://motofaction.org/tool-review...information-brochure-history-australian-made/

I can see that it was patented in the US, and I'm wondering if anyone ever did license it for production in the States. It's an unusual design so I figure that someone may recall it if so...

J.C.

Very unusual vise. I saved the patent a while back and put this one on my Unicorn Vise List. Have a soft spot for Swivel, Rotate, round slide vises (like the Odin, Theadore, Ober, Lewis, Dibble, Holt&Donlevy&Connell, Scoggins, Kenter, ...).

If it was produced in the US, it was likely produced on/near the West Coast. If you do find one, please let me know and tell me which body part I would have to trade for it,

Have not seen one here or anywhere else. Maybe a lurker here has one. If so, please put it up.

Really, really, really COOL Vise

Lugz- my guess based on your picture is an old Reed combo w/o the pipe jaws (e.g., a 33)
Maybe my artistic skills aren't as bad as I thought! Haha. You nailed it, Vise. That's what it was. I ran into it again yesterday and this time I took a better look and a few snapshots. The guy wanted $80, but those crude jaw caps, which I didn't notice the first time, were a real turn off. Obviously they could be removed, but he drilled the hell out of it. And no pipe jaws. The action on the slide was very smooth though. He countered with $50 as low as he would go but I didn't want it that badly.

I'd have probably jumped at 50. The era would fit you basement shop well! Finding a mounting position might be harder though...

I too would have paid $50
The cast iron wing nut is worth half of that. Maybe more.

Mounting??
Just drill a hole in your shelf! Nobody uses each and every vise they own do they? :)

A 9140 Wilton Cadet that I got from my grandfather a few years back when he passed away. Came across this website when I was looking into one day, figured I'd post up some pictures (ignore the messy shop background). May get around to cleaning up some day, but for now it works just fine.

Thanks for the heads up. Better now?

Nah. My workbenches are as old as that vise, just thick and wide planks of wood. Haha. All I need to do is drill some holes.

Is it a "31"?
I don't know. I took a photo of the only marking that looked like a model number. See Pic 4. Edit: Yeah, I guess that's a "31."

Drove to Dallas to pick up some early Bronco parts and the guy had LOTS of other stuff. Came home with a Reed 203-R and a Columbian 604 M2 - both have swivel bases, look to be fairly lightly used, and should clean up nicely. Paid $75 for the pair.

Columbian will need some parts, however -- the nut doesn't fit the main screw or vice versa.

No room these here; I already have a Record, Wilton, and Rock Island vises mounted in the garage, and recently set my parents up with a Paramo. Think the Columbian will go to my nephew and the Reed to my sister.

Someone stuck a Wilton 504-4 nut in my Columbian vise. Anyone have a Columbian vise nut and/or a parts vise?

Haha, that base was the giveaway for me. I might be in the minority, but I would have passed at $50 too, unless the intention was to part it out. Glad the mystery was solved, I couldn't sleep. :bounce:

Here's a one off.---A 260lb. Wilton 800N, give or take.---The 800S only weighs 238lbs. so this is defiantly a Unicorn.---And the price reflects that.---At 260lbs., I hope it's take, cause I don't see how we could give it much more.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wilton-Ben...N-Old-Metal-/143453262516?hash=item21667b12b4

I was not quite understanding your post. Do you know that this one weighs more than a regular 8 inch Wilton, were you assuming it was accurately weighed, or were you making fun of the listing?

I have what I believe is an older 1950's made 8 inch Wilton, but do not have a way to accurately weigh it.

The latter.---The seller said in the description ''Give or take'', so if it's give, then he must be weighing vise and pallet together, in which case the pallet has to weigh 40 lbs. or better.

Does anybody recognize this unusual swiveling clamp on?

The swivel lock reminds me of Parker or ???

Not every day someone throws a vise away. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I have a few others but this one will be my first restoration that I'll be starting over the summer time.

Long shot...but here it goes.

I’ve been looking/wanting a rotating vise for a while now such as a Parker or a Flexivise.

So with that being said, everything in the photo is up for trade for one of those, if anything interests you let me know what you would need to have to make it work.

From back to front, left to right.
(1) Ridgid Vise 6”
(2) Armitage Mouse Hole Anvil 82lbs
(3) No. 0 Toledo Pipe Vise
(4) 1971 Wilton Bullet Vise 4” (missing dustcap)
(5) 1945 No. 3 Wilton Bullet Vise 3”
(6) Wilton Bullet Vise “Toddler” 2.5”
(7) Parker 973 Vise 3”
(8) Stanley Vise 746-3”
(9) Stanley Vise 743-2”

**Sorry if this isn’t the place for this. If so, someone feel free to say something and I’ll delete it.

So, was Millers Falls exporting clamp-on vises to Marples in England?

You would almost have to put them side by side, but I know MF made (sold) that style... Almost EVERYONE made/Sold versions of the two rod slide clamp on. (the snivelers were few and far between)

The key question is of course; who supplied them? One primary? hall a dozen? :dunno:

Svt, even if you don't eventually wind up with a rotator, you've got some nice stuff there. ---All the vises look to be in pretty good shape.

Thank you! I definitely enjoy my collection but when you want something bad enough and don’t have deep enough pockets your only option is to put what you have on the table.

Have you considered a Schum/Milhoff or NuTyp? The Schum has most of the functionality of the Flexivise at what would potentially be a much lower price.

Several Milhoffs and NuTyps have been posted here. Do a search of the thread to dig them up.

I very much doubt that 800N weighs 260lbs, unless it was repaired with lead. I’ve messaged with that guy before and he also had a 6” Wilton bullet that he wants like $1250 for, so he’s just high in his prices in general.

Here’s a super mint Hollands 44 I scooped up last night. Pretty flawless condition and very tight.

Vise: You found a really nice 44

Is there a bit of green paint left on yours? I wonder if green was the factory color.
Here is a pic of my 43 1/2 with what I thought might be original paint. :dunno:

Little Info about GEMERE:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5980786&postcount=47422
I guess from here https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=595823&postcount=832

I recently got me a german offset vise, probably LUX derivtate, (not a keeper for me, probably), all steel and was made by Friedr. Stein & Co in Remscheid - BL. I googled back then but you couldn't find much about them so I kinda put this on the back burner.

Now a friend got a 150mm variant and that brought it all up and when browsing the classifieds, I also noticed that it all looked kinda similar to Stahl Titan vises: jaw inserts mounted with screws from the back. "Stahl Titan" is linked to the company "Gebrüder Mellewigt & Co, Remscheid" (notice anything ;) in a old german companies & trademarks listing. It also links it to Oval H/V vises (I believe the System Koch styled tube vises labeled "Original Oval") and a steel offset vise (bingo!)

They seem to have existed from 1911 - 1956

And with googling for Stahl Titan I found the post above which has the GEMERE decal and the same pipe jaw inserts as the offset vises. That vise in the decal looks like a System Koch "Original Oval" vise.

Also: GEMERE? Like in
GEbrüder
MEllewigt
REmscheid?

I do think so. I also believe that the Stein company bought or took over Mellewigt or something and continued to produce them for a while before also fading away.

Nice find on the Hollands, it’s really a treat to see old vises in such great condition.
