This is a 1958 CM Crown set made by the Advertising Metal Display Company of Chicago. I picked it up at an estate sale this week.

There's no doubt there is some rust on the exterior but a lot of is seems to be old spill residue. I took a quick lick at some of it with WD-40 but did not see any noticeable change. Any suggestions?

This may be a case where Evaporust would remove the rust stains without damaging the paint. Since you can't submerge the whole thing, a paper towel soaked in the stuff and then laid on the stains would probably work.

If you don't have any Evaporust, some CLR calcium, lime and rust cleaner may work as well - most hardware stores carry it.

Any slightest wrinkle in the rag that leaves any part of the box not touched by the rag will leave a ghost image much like the line left behind if a socket isn't fully submerged. Perhaps it was just sloppy "putting the rag on the box" technique on my part but I'll never do it again.

The outside shows some staining but not too bad, but the inside is fabulous! The PO lined all the drawers with orange foam padding and except where a couple of spills soaked through, the finish is perfect--even the top of the roller is unmarked due to the piece of carpet between it and the top box. You can actually see reflections in the finish.




Under the tote I found the tags for each piece--No. 4070 2-Drawer Chest and No. 4358 3-Drawer Roller



Under one of the foam pads I found a portion of a seasonal Sears catalog with the set advertised as a combo for $53.77




Under another pad I found the delivery slip showing the catalog number, the weight and the price. It was delivered to the owner on 13 Feb 1958 at the same address where I picked it up.

EDIT: I meant to note that GJ members Leevon and d42jeep have the Montgomery Ward POWR KRAFT versions of the bottom and top. See posts 11572 and 11578 in this thread.

I love the fact these were purchased from the same address they were delivered to. It's rare to know the history of ownership with boxes that old. That, coupled with the original tags/documentation makes those a fantastic find. Well done!

I've got a 2d Heritage I'm parting out faulty. Pretty sure they'd all be the same length but send me dimensions of exactly what you need. EDIT: My parts box is a top chest. Slides for bottom chests are more than likely longer but still let me know the length you need.

Just saw your post; I'll measure today, fingers crossed it will fit. Perhaps two sliders could be combined to make one of the proper length? Just need one side, my guess is one slider was removed for repair and then lost forever.

I would keep my eyes open for a roached out parts roller. That might be your best bet.

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. My internet as been T.U. for the last two days. I'll give the WD-40/steel wool a good go, but it'll have to wait until the wet weather lets up here in SA--and I complete a couple of other projects. Upon closer inspection, a whole lot of those spill residue stains have actually enlisted the aid of the rust monster...

Several months after buying this stack sight-unseen (other than a single pic), I finally ventured out to the location "five miles past the end of the road" to pick this up and bring it home.

Certainly not the "like new" as it was touted, but I probably already suspected that. Definitely in at a minimum excellent price/value, and in "Very Good" condition, with no real rust problems, and all drawers and slide operating true and smooth. Will still require a good deep cleaning, and some drawer lining to accept my keeper tools, and bring some organization back to my life after the frenzy that has been my buying habits this winter.

I'm guessing by the stamped marking that it was probably made by Waterloo in November of 1980? (I had it pegged for a 1970s box, so maybe a little disappointed in seeing the date).

Can anyone else offer a comment based on the pictures presented as to the maker, if in fact Waterloo, or not?

I like that stack, nice layout of drawers on the roller. I have never been a fan of Snap-on top boxes from that period due to the lack of drawers, so I think these are much better.

Of course, I have a RemLine with that layout, so I would say that!

Yes, full chrome. But I am looking for the old part numbered ones, the four digit type. PM me with what you have and we can go from there.

Added to my growing collection of Kennedy boxes. This is my first 526. It was pretty dusty but after going over it with WD-40 it looks sweet. All the drawer felt is in good condition and I've already placed it on the end of my bench and started to load it up. Sadly, no key but for less than $20, I can't complain!

Would someone more knowledgeable than me (not saying much) be able to provide any detail regarding one of my Kennedy toolbox? I was told it was from the 1920's, but other than that don't know much about this ...

It's part of several other Kennedy boxes I own / use on a frequent basis but its definitely my favorite.

I'm completely exhausted. It has been ~23 hours since I left Portland for Missoula, Montana. I returned an hour ago with these:

Craftsman Mechanics' wall hanging cabinet

And ...

Craftsman Deluxe 5 drawer rolling cabinet.

Scott found these on FB Marketplace (what were you looking in Montana for?!?) and posted a comment in the FB Craftsman Collector group. I took one look, and immediately contacted the seller. We worked out a deal and on the first snow-free weekend, I drove 1127.3 miles round trip to pick them up.

BTW - crossing the western Rockies in winter, regardless of how long it has been since the last snowfall, is treacherous in the morning! But the mighty Camry came through yet again.

Welcome home Brian! The Camry strikes again! I found that while I had Post Falls, Idaho punched into my MP search. My brother lives out there so I look out of curiosity sometimes. Glad it paid off. Those pieces couldn't have found a better home (considering they were wayyyyyyy out of my reach). Looking forward to seeing what they look like when they're cleaned up.

picked this up from a dealer last week. couldn't pass it up for as little as it cost. not sure on the exact age, but its early 90's. Made in canada with the old style lock. had one of these I bought new in the 90's and forgot how stout these little boxes are.

That's am impressive trip and I hope you're pleased with the boxes, they look nice condition and it's great to get just what you were looking for even if it involves racking up some mileage! I think I would have made an excuse for an overnight stop somewhere, especially in winter, as I have only ever driven max 650 miles in a day usually max of 500 miles. Hope the cost of gasoline didn't add too much to the cost of the boxes..

Here is my Dads old Rem Line stack. Bottom is a 900A with Flying saucer casters and top is a 1100. In the process of restoration. Always on the lookout for the Model 1300 two drawer middle section and or the A30 two drawer insert. Love this old box and want to hand it down to my son.

I have my Dads remline top and bottom but they are not that nice.
