Went out on the highway, speedometer was still off, so I am trying another calibration. It was doing 70 by GPS when the speedo read 60, so I think I used the wrong RPM for the tries, this will give me an idea and I should know if I went the right direction or not. This is the back of the speedo.

That fixed it, now it reads a little faster than the GPS, I would rather be reading one or two over versus not realizing I am speeding. Now all I have two do is figure out my headlights and it will be 90% ready to work, I still have to strip off the old painted lettering, not really looking forward to that.

Perk is looking really good. I remember my dad removing lettering from a truck he bought, he used easy off oven cleaner. It worked pretty good.

That is what I am planning on using, I watched a bunch of videos on removing the lettering from trucks and boats, so I know it should work, just nervous that I could eff up the paint under it. I have some vinegar and that is supposed to stop the easy off from acting, kind of like an emergency situation. I am going to pull the door latches since it looks like they got paint under them. Also want to install all new mirrors, I want heated and power, but I need to understand how they ran the wires from the door to the cab, it doesn’t have any place to do it like a normal door would.

One thing I will say for sure is that when my back is sore, driving Perk definitely makes it worse.

I was looking at what I need to do for a decent receiver tube, going to be a bit of a pain, but I want to easily be able to haul any of my trailers.

Today I need to clean up the shop at TH so I can try and get a few things done on the OGMC, I need to get it off the lift, it may end up on the ramp truck for a bit. Would be nice if I could get it to move under its own power, only need to replace all the fuel lines, all the brake lines, inner and outer driver side fenders and I am sure I am forgetting something.

Yup, both bumpers, rear should definitely be removed before I put the fuel tank back in, might need the torch.

Kind of depressing working on the OGMC, it has some more serious rust issues than I originally thought, will actually have to remove some riveted brackets and replace them in order to get it inspected. Only good thing is that I already have the fuel tank out, so it will be easier to get to the bracket. I am not 100% sure what my repair timeframe is, but I think it is going to get dragged out substantially as my top priority now is Perk and getting a trailer setup and working. I am also probably going to register Bev to use as my secondary "pickup truck", will be useful for this year, sticker runs out in October and will need more attention at that point.

Right now half the things I want to do are almost undoable thanks to viruses, I figure it is almost going to be like a reset, I will work towards having things ready for when I can get back to things.

Got the maroon burb ready to fix a few things and change over the tires. Found a big rust hole that was covered with tape and undercoating oh well.




Tried to remove the lettering from Perk, just the vinyl parts, but the air compressor setup is awful, started to get water coming out of my air tool.




I knew things were not great, but there isn’t even a drain or drip leg on anything, so all the condensed water is going right into the tools.





I guess tomorrow I need to come up with a solution that will work quick.

Better get a leg up on that drainage. Corrosion increases under pressure. I have drip legs on all my air containers.

Yup, I am going to drain the tank tomorrow, hope I can come up with enough pipe to make a quick and dirty drip leg off the main section. All I need is a up and down section of steel, with a couple drains at the low points.

Yes, but not in any of the copper lines going to the hose reels.

I did mine last year, I used schedule 80 PVC I hope it holds up time will tell I guess. I did put a drip leg at the compressor with a valve on it. I just need to run a line from it to outside so it doesn't dump inside. So far so good on moisture getting to the tools.

I used a heat gun, the fake gold leaf is weird, it has multiple layers, the clear comes off first, then the gold turns into sticky stuff.

Strouty, The traditional glue (size) for gold leaf is oil-based and slow drying so I suspect you are just waking it up. Bon Ami or Brasso is supposed to take the gold leaf and size off quickly (once you break through the clear).

Goo Gone might be your friend too. Used that to get the glue residue off after removing the vinyl.

I have a love hate relationship with goo gone, seems like it is hit or miss for me. It didn’t work well on OMO’s doors, it works really well on glass though. The rubber eraser I have works very well, it takes everything off except the painted lettering without damaging anything else. Also makes less of a mess than any other way, well, except when the stickers or lettering isn’t that old, then everything usually peels off with a bit of heat.

I would be done with the vinyl if it hadn’t been for the water in the air lines. I did buy parts to make up some sort of catch all for the moisture, should be able to get to that tomorrow, hopefully.

Got a call this morning, Dad says: "Well, you got your way, employee has given notice". I did tell him that it wasn't my way, but that doesn't matter if he doesn't remember the whole situation, regardless, it will be a good thing long term. Short term is a different story, that will probably make my life a living hell.

Snow is still clinging to stuff, my local town has locked down people starting at 5 tonight for next 5 days, not supposed to leave the house at all and they are fining people $500 if they do. I technically fall under an essential service clause, but not sure I want an argument over 5 days. I am going to get some things from the office and do what I can remotely.
