............The last pick of the day for me was the Steelcase desk chair - sorely in need of a recovering. The current fabric is a recover that didn't last - most likely due to an incorrect padding selection.

Nice finds. What would be the proper way to treat that Steelcase chair to a new covering?

Well, there were a couple estate sales over the last few days as things start to open up here, so I headed out and found treasure:

Highlights include a MAC metric hex socket set ($5) Cornwell 24" 1/2 drive extension ($3) Williams refer ratchet ($2) long shaft MAC #2, a whole bunch of misc. US sockets (Proto, SK, Indestro, Craftsman Vanadium (!)) and a cute little Indestro mini screwdriver set.

Nice, Love the lines of the Proto Ratchets, I have all 3 sizes!

You are too modest. That 100 looks great!
If, somehow, you haven’t perused Frank Lee’s Craftsman Drill Press thread, You might want to. And post the press there, too.

Looks like yall had a few sales and some good deals!

I'm digging those SK sets that Shelby bought! They look very nice! Also a great deal for them!

Shelbylex, nice Bell System pliers!
Thank you! Can not wait till I can get my hands on restoring and cleaning the tools (1 week in the garage to let the virus (if any) die). I will post it in the Bell System thread once I clean it up. I work next weekend, so no promises.
It is very rusty, but I hope I will be able to clean it up. The Bell System cutters which I posted on the Bell System post also came in very rusty and stuck.
May be it's the fate - two saved from the rust?

I love new looking and shiny tools, but it honestly makes me for some reason very happy when I restore a tool which would otherwise be thrown away due to rust (a lot of my tools are restored...). It's like giving it another life.

It's been 55 days since my last estate sale fix. When I saw this one was happening locally, with social distancing and masks required--but happening--with tools--I grabbed my vapor mask and hit the gas.

They wanted way too much for most of the stuff--trying to recoup losses from inactivity, no doubt, but there were things worth my time and I needed my fix!!

Here's what I came away with:

attachment.php

Millers Falls Screwdriver - $2
15" J.H. Williams Superjustable Wrench - $5
W. & L.E. Gurley Plumb Bob - $1
Battery Terminal Cleaner - $1
Neatsfoot Oil - $1
Welder's Gloves - Free
Firestone 3/8" Socket Wrench Set - $16

attachment.php

attachment.php

This is what the came inside the box

attachment.php

The set is complete minus the ratchet. The sale has the "T" handle for the flex bar so I'll go back tomorrow for it.

attachment.php

attachment.php

These are the "extras"
Plomb 5249 Pebble Ratchet
Proto L.A. 1212 3/8" Combo
Craftsman -VV- 3/8" 6" extension
S-K 45190 3/8" Universal
Proto 'R' 5/16" Socket
Master Mechanic (Taiwan) 1/4" Socket Set

attachment.php

Aahhhhhh, that feels good.

Thanks for all the complements, everyone.

I mentioned the set didn't have a 'T' handle for the breaker bar but that I saw it at the estate and just didn't put 2+2 together. I went back for it yesterday and found it but when I got it home it didn't fit! The hole in the breaker is 5/16 and the T-bar is 3/8--1/16 too wide. I don't know what it went to but they don't go together. Disappointing but, oh well. Many of the pics of sets I've seen don't have one either.

Visited my favorite dumpster the other day. At first I passed up on this box of bolts, but then on my way out I spotted the shackle under the larger bolts so the box came home with me. There was also the pair of corona grass shears in there too. After digging through it today I found a decent amount of hardware that I will be using in future projects. Glad I grabbed this one!

First time using the app, please excuse any errors.IMG_20200511_163216.jpg

Funny you picked up a corona shear, I picked up a Corona tree limb saw when I picked up some lawnmowers one day. Wife wasn't amused when I said I got a Corona.

I've been pretty comms out on here the last two months, what with no sales nearby, a jammed up work-from-home schedule and two jammed garages with no place to put new stuff. So, I've been buying car parts to swap in the LS motor I bought last month. Buying car parts is as much fun as shopping on eBay, just a lot more expensive.

I was committed to not buying any more big stuff until I thinned out what I already have. However, a FB Marketplace ad for a wood shop clean out broke through the resolve and I have an appointment Monday afternoon to see what bargains there are to be had. Hopefully, he'll have sold all the big equipment and there will be nothing available at fire sale prices to start filling an otherwise useable garage bay back here.

Well, the woodshop owner is playing hard-to-get, now. Still waiting on a date-time to go visit. I also had a lead on a dirt cheap FMC wheel balancer, but someone else is in front of me and will probably scoop it up.

On the other end, I've actually sold two of my old cars through FB Marketplace in the last two weeks, including the rusty '60 Impala I showed back on the 2017 thread. A guy in Kentucky bought it based on pics and videos--it's getting picked up Thursday.

It's great that some of you are continuing to post some really good finds, harvested in a socially responsible way. Life is different, but life goes on. Cheers!5bacd7ce94439396f765c0bce09b960d.jpg

The picking gods smiled on me! The other guy in front of me couldn't make it, so I got the nod. I beat feet an hour up the road and came home with this FMC 5800 wheel balancer for $150. It shows a calibration error when it starts up, but Google found me a forum thread about how to fix it. Regardless, even if it can't be reset, I can recover my investment by selling off the fittings that came with it!bc3d46fe5d8d1abd2331b78d1cc89a83.jpg2b0a612b1b29f5d46cf91644c99f3cd1.jpg

I found A $hi& Ton Of Nuts, Bolts, And Washers, Circa 1996 In A dumpster.
Went back later to snag them, and A "Junk man" Was There, scooping out what he could. :lol_hitti:lol_hitti
My Luck.................... I still got what he couldn't reach............A Fair Amount Too!

Oh Then Circa 2006, Found a Brand New Big Old set Of bolt Cutters In The C/Store/Service Station I was a Mechanic at. ....................Probably Burglar tool that was discarded............:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Nice! Hope you can fix it. Having a good wheel balancer is worth it's weight in gold!

Today is trash day, so yesterday after her run, SWMBO told me about a table saw a few streets away. "I don't want you to have more junk around so if you can fix it and get rid of it you can bring it home, but you better look at it really well before you load it up."
What a great woman, helping save things from the landfill. And of course I can (try to) fix anything!

So after I got the saw home I realized that the spindle was stripped out, suddenly it's becoming harder to explain why this will stick around longer than I want it to.
Also, no fence, missing the throat insert and the right wing is loose.

Nice motor at least! 1hp baldor.IMG_20200513_125857.jpgIMG_20200513_125914.jpgIMG_20200513_125931.jpegIMG_20200512_191256.jpg

All my children are back under one roof, so there has been a redistribution of Lebensraum. After paint and rollers were pressed into service to mark off the new divisions, I slipped away yesterday and wire-wheeled some more of last autumn’s acquisitions. Today they got a BLO wipe-down and spent midday basking in full sun.
Four Walden Worcester tees (2816x2, 2818, 2820), a Firestone Tire & Rubber Co Akron O short tee (Pat Pdg), some Mossberg stuff, Moore, and a bunch of DOEs. Also have a WW speeder w/ fixed hex socket, but that is getting some shellac on the wood handle.

Can't read it Jeff...

LS,
I have a couple of those wrenches with the huge box end... I'm sure they were use specific, but no clue what for...

From their short length, clearly a low-torque application. I think they are hubcap wrenches, from when hubcaps were much smaller than the rims. Wire-spoked wheels, I guess. A lot of the pictures of wire-spoked wheels online show handles incorporated into “knockoff” hubcap designs, but some do show six-sided hubcaps.
I’m not as certain they are necessarily automotive, though, since auto wheels have a common ancestry with wood-spoked wagon/carriage/buggy wheels. Most of those hubs seem to take a square wrench, though.

That is correct. I have one in my Vlchek collection. See Pics 1 & 2. The forged wrenches are more robust versions of the hub wrenches made of pressed steel by Mossberg and others for Ford in an earlier era. See Pic 3.
