If you haven’t had your picker-vision checked, don’t bother, because it’s 2020!
Welcome to our NINTH ANNUAL installment!

Purpose: to post and celebrate stuff bought, bartered, gifted, or otherwise acquired in the context of NON-RETAIL shopping.
Appropriate venues include garage/yard/porch/barn & estate sale; auction, flea market; boot/trunk, jumble/swap; pawn, thrift, ReStore, antique shop…dumpster, dustbin, curbside…CL, LetGo, eBay, Etsy…JUST NOT RETAIL.
Items for use in the garage are of universal appeal…but don’t be shy about posting your crazy (maybe offer a hint of where/how it is used). Lots of other stuff has been posted over the years, and most of us are here to learn.
Post Pictures
:needpics:
We want to see your stuff - as found, after sorting, after cleaning…Lots of members are eager to help identify the unknown, and welcome a challenge. If you have trouble posting pics, say so, or read Outlawmws’s single-post tutorial here.
Tell the Story
It’s common practice to post a picture and a price, but you can skip the price. A great bargain (what/how much) is praiseworthy, but rarities will raise even more interest. What we’d like to know is what it means to you. Don’t be stingy with the who/where/when/why. A great story surrounding a ho-hum find is still a treat! An epic fail is still epic!
Praise versus Self Praise
“Nice one,” “Sweet,” and the envious “You ****!” are what we all want as feedback, but fishing for compliments is never appropriate.
Do not award yourself praise. It comes down to this:
Thou Shalt Not “****” Thyself.
That being said…
As inaugurated by Private Lugnutz and confirmed by BlueBomber, there will be a PICKER-OF-THE-YEAR trophy awarded at the end of the year. I will nominate 10 candidates with 20 or more posts on this thread who, in my estimation, exemplify the high standards of economy, quality, esprit-de-corps, perspicacity…(AKA “best year of finds”). GJers will then vote to choose the winner.
As in years past, the election of next year’s thread host will be made from 10 candidates with the highest number of posts on this thread, previous hosts exempted.
Once we get rolling, all will become clear, but if you want to see things done right, check out our illustrious history:

The Roll of Honor (previous threads and their hosts)
2019 - BlueBomber - 2019 Garage Sale Thread
2018 - Private Lugnutz - 2018 Garage Sale Thread
2017 - 3baygarage - 2017 Garage Sale Thread
2016 - jakemac - 2016 Garage Sale Thread
2015 - nine4gmc - 2015 Garage SaleThread
2014 - Outlawmws - 2014 Garage sale thread!
2013 - maddawg308 - it's 2013 garage sale season!...
2012 - jeffmoss26 - it's garage sale season!!

A special "thank you" to BlueBomber for being a GREAT HOST last year!
HAPPY HUNTING!

Just wanted to see that again! Best thread on GJ! And if that intro is any indication, we are going to have an epic year! :)

EDIT: My picking technically begins tomorrow!

Looking forward to another year, hopefully more participant than observer this year. Having a 1 year old really cut into my time last year. Good luck ggents (and ladies?) I enjoy seeing the bounties.

Let me be the first to suggest that the 2020 PotY trophy be a customized set of bitmojis. ;)

I decided to do some picking today after all. I don't know whether to fold this up into a tri-corner metaphorical casket flag or use it down in the Lugzsonian as a dust curtain, but my first "find" of 2020 is the last thing I will ever take away from one of my three sources, which just closed forever.

Lugz, I think it has to go on the casket!

This is definitely my fave thread on GJ and it sure looks like we've got lots of folks ready to get after it!

Thanks to BlueBomber for hosting last year and to LesserSon for this year!

Best of luck picking 2020 to everyone!

RagTop, you seem to be claiming a very large territory! You're a mite closer to Okla. than to San Antonio where TinMedic just became my local competition.

Let the hunt begin!

For 2020 I have moved the "2020 Garage Sale Thread" up higher in my Bookmarks list so I will see it every time I search for something to surf. I placed it just below my two favorite HAMB sites..."Ford Thunderbolts Photos Wanted" and "NHRA Junior Stock".

Also found my way in! Thanks for the link LS!

Lugz, cool that you got the flag! Was that before or after I commented in last years thread, or were you holding out for posting this years?

I literally just went down there this morning. Place was deserted. I saw people removing things from the main building and the food stand yesterday. Technically, it was abandoned. That's my story and I'm sticking with it, anyway.

Bought this for $10 I think it’s about 3/4 full of argon.

Hey Happy New Year Guys! Way to kick it off LS! Checking in for yet another year.

Lugz- nice takeaway from your flea market. I wish I had a piece from my now closed original flea, maybe a filthy old well trodden floor tile or something!

So I woke up this New Year’s morning and said to myself, hey it’s Wednesday. That means there may be a Wednesday flea market going on. I haven’t been there in months. I wasn't sure if it was open for the holiday, but it was. The weather was beautiful. Slightly cool along with that warm radiant sun, making the perfect combination. And the place, well, it was poppin’!

Here’s my first official haul of the year.

A 10” Masterench
Plomb socket
Yet unidentified 1/2” female by 1/2” female adapter
Craftsman crown top razor blades
A used Williams selector
Hahnerberger ( Germany?) drop forged hammer head
3/8 Wright ratchet & 3/8 Husky ratchet
Stanley and Snap On screwdrivers
Wardmaster (New Britain style) 3/8 t handle
Wardmaster sockets (indestro style)
Wardmaster pocket driver
Odd looking Craftsman doe wrench

3 Duro sockets, female t handle and extension.
K-D scraper
Mac screwdriver
Blue Point impact driver with Snap On socket
Old Blackhawk 3/8 extension

Firestone 1/2” speeder

Whitman & Barnes S wrench
Fiat wrench
Large old doe wrench with Mack logo, by Williams

Craftsman dial speed indicator

Thanks Toto.

Afterwards I stopped over Cbacres’ place.

We weren’t planning on a hand tool trade, but I brought a tool that I was holding for him for a while, and wound up with this Wards Master wrench and Firestone extension to go with the speeder!

Things should have ended there, but I asked him if he still had these Indestro Super and Duro Chrome sets for sale. He gave me a price I could’t refuse, plus the Blackhawk spinning grip extension. Just what I needed, more stuff coming home on day 1 of 2020.

I’ll have to get better pictures of the sockets. Oh boy, last weekend’s finds haven’t quite made it to the thread yet either.

Three bay walked into a trap coming over to my place. I’m preparing to set up at a tractor show in a few weeks and did a quick set up to see how much table space I needed.

I was impressed by Three bays restraint looking over everything. That is until I set out the three sets he posted up.

So I don’t have anything to show for the first day, but I did enable!!!!:lol_hitti

It was good to see you today.

I finished 2019 with a bang, and rang in the new year with a unicorn!

Today I ventured north into no-man's land, roughly half way between my home in Portland and the ravenous GJ crew in Seattle, to buy this 1 HP Craftsman Block grinder on pedestal stand.

The deal has been in the works for a week, but since I was in Texas for the holidays, I wasn't able to get it until today. Listed on FB Marketplace for $175, I offered the seller $200 if he'd hold it.

I have to say: if you have to drive between Portland and Seattle, do it on New Years day. I've never had an easier drive to, or from!

Brian
