Thanks all,
Got the last rafter in the shop, ready to tack off.
That will feel good to get that phase complete and start on the columns and knees.

That's going to be HUGE. I thought you were going to build it out of wood at first by looking at the plans. Then I see the first column. WOW great work as usual.

Roofing material?....come on this is Royce we’re talking about. It’ll be slabs of marble cut with nothing more then dental floss

Thanks all,
I spaced the purlins so corrugated roofing would span and suggested galvanized or cor ten.

Don't add too much weight. You have to consider snow load and the rafters are only 18" pipe.

First of the column knees tacked off.
I think I like the way it gently comes into one.

Ya know what bud. You’re damn good at these petite, cutesy jewelry projects...damn good. But I sure hope the day comes when you take on something of real size and girth.....ya know, sumtin like this.

Man oh man I wish I was your neighbor, we’d get along great. It’s damn shame you get waaayyyy too much of that white stuff, that **** kills me.

Thanks LXC,
I did spend a couple years on a bridge project, nothing of that magnitude though.
Those were a wild couple years, I think more work got done in the bar room than on the job!

Those days are gone, thank heavens.

You know, I'm about over these sorry winters up here, might need to start following the birds south in the fall.

Thanks Outwest,
This one is really interesting to me.
Anxious to see it in it's setting, to see if it lives up to what was envisioned.

And here I thought I was the only one who knew what a porte cohere was. [emoji23]

Yours would be the spectacular industrial version and mine the domestic equivalent.

Anxious to see how this turns out. Royce, will you be able to get a photo in it's final location all put together? Very unusual project...

Lis,
To be honest, I didn't know what it was until I was asked to build one!

Jay,
My roll in this project is to get it through fabrication.
The owners weldor will weld it out.
They will also set the pile, that it will set on.
When they are ready to erect, if I am available, I will lend a hand.
Anyhow, yes I'll post a pic when it all happens.

Thanks

Royce

Progress,
Both arches tacked off.
Column knees tacked to main beams.
Started laying out 24"x18" reducers.
Started the end caps on the purlins.

So I am curious how you are making the cuts in the large pipe? Torch or a mega-bandsaw? The fitups look extremely clean.

Also are you working in your own shop, the space seems larger than I had in my head from other Royce-projects?
