Help finding 11mm hex to 1/4" square drive adapter

Hello all,

I know that there are several companies that produce low profile "pass through" socket sets that user an 11mm external hex drive. What I'm looking for is an 11mm to 1/4" square drive quick release adapter to be able to use regular 1/4" drive sockets with my 11mm external hex ratchets.

I have a Wera Mini 2 set and a Facom R.180HX set and I'd like to be able to use the ratchets with regular sockets.

I have been able to find an adapter that's kinda/sorta compatible, but not really. It's a PowerTorque adapter from Oreilly Auto Parts and it does fit... but I have to use the ratchet upside down and it's tough to get the adapter out. The difference between the PowerTorque set and the others is where the cutouts are for the retaining ring in the ratchet. Facom/Wera/USAG/Wurth/Laser/etc have the retaining ring at the top of the ratchet, and the PowerTorque has the retaining ring at the bottom.

I *THINK* I read somewhere that Matco and/or Laser may have the adapter that I want, but my Google-fu is failing me. If anyone knows of a part number or any reference to such an adapter, I would love to hear about it. Thank you!

Sam

Proto has one that's QR but it's 3/8" hex to 1/4" square, not 11mm.

Kobalt 1/4-in Drive Xtreme Access Quick Release Adapter Item #25277 may or may not be 11mm.

Keep searching.

You might look at 7/16 to 1/4 adapter since some impacts are made with 7/16 hex which is same as 11mm

Tone sells a kit with this part, but I’ve never seen it separately. If you find out differently let me know. I’ll buy a dozen....

Astro Pneumatic has an 11mm outer hex kit with a QR 1/4” drive adapter that sort of works, though the whole thing is really junky. 9411 or something like that. The same part looks like it’s sold as Power Torque or something like that. It works, but the detents aren’t quite right. [EDIT - you mentioned this one. Astro Pneumatic is the same deal.)

Snapon has an 11mm outer hex to 1/4” bit adapter for their low profile set that is compatible with Reverse Gear (Facom/USAG, Würth, Wera, Tone, Deen, KS Tools, etc.). It’s marginally easier to slip on/off if you remove the retainer ring, but not much different.

(Snapon’s 11mm outer hex kit is backwards. The sockets all have retainer rings but the ratchet doesn’t. That means you can use Snapon sockets on Reverse Gear ratchets, but Reverse Gear sockets fall off the Snapon ratchet. In practice that does not much matter. The Reverse Gear ratchets are better than Snapon’s.)

I haven't been able to find Deen tools pretty much at all, much less the adapter. I was hoping to be able to find the adapter for SnapOn, but their website is at least as terrible as any other tool manufacturer's. I bought a couple of the PowerTorque ratchets for the adapters and then threw the ratchets away, but I was hoping for a better solution.

Try:

Proto JHAM4S

EZ Red SD3

Gearwrench 9230

Snap-On RWA1 (also a Williams part)

Unless it has to be 11mm like OP...

Why would a size other than 11mm outer hex be useful here?

Re: Help finding 11mm hex to 1/4" square drive adapter

Because then you can just use real ratcheting wrenches from your sets and not have to worry about using the pass-through ratchet.

Why do you assume someone has “real” ratcheting wrenches? I for one have never seen the use of them. DOE wrenches and socket sets cover all my use cases well. An auto mechanic or similar may feel differently.

These 11mm outer hex ratchets - especially the locking flex Facom/USAG - and low profile sockets are great for general use. Compact and versatile. It would be nice if all of them had an adapter for use with extensions or standard 1/4” drive sockets though. Tone’s set has one, so it is clearly in the OEM’s catalog.

I found a Proxxon set with an extension and a 1/4 adapter. I'm trying to figure out if they have any open stock items.

Are you sure Proxxon is 11mm außenhex? I didn’t find that info on their website. The detents look like they’re in the wrong place to me. But let us know if you pick it up and it works.

No, I'm not ABSOLUTELY sure that it's 11mm... but it's close. I did notice that the detents were in the wrong place, which makes me not want to gamble on it... Still looking for a proper adapter. Someone has to have one available...

You need this. I have 3/8" version of this. Then you stick it to one of your 11mm hex sockets. Not an ideal solution but it works.

Alternatively GearWrench sells adapters for their ratcheting screwdrivers individually.
