How about a 2x48?

I'm not a knife maker but the versatility of these grinders is hard not to see. When I was looking at 2x72 they all had too large a foot print and are almost all stationary (something that doesn't work in my garage). I found an Australian company making a 2x48" version but it was way outside my price range. Covid was full force and I had a lot of spare time so I set out to design my own version of their design in fusion 360. Once I was far enough along I used sendcutsend.com to laser cut all the parts for the frame, and I scored a very good deal on the 3 phase motor and VFD on ebay. I'm super happy with how it came out it's exactly what I wanted.

What HP and RPM motor did you get?

I just order some large bar chunks to start making pulleys with. Has anyone found a good deal on bearings for price vs quality? I don't want to spend a small fortune but the cheap ones are widely varied quality

Thoughts on the revolution design?
Hey JoeyP - I of course am biased since it is my own design but if you want shoot me a PM to discuss it. I think we have the design really refined at this point. Also with the cheaper VFD it really makes it affordable to build.

When I prototyped it I did the entire thing with a cut off wheel and a mill. Now with the laser cut parts it makes it really accessible to anyone with a welder and a few other tools. Thanks for taking a look. - Brian

Hey Brian,

Do you have an overview video for your belt grinder? I looked for one on your channel but couldn't find one.

Your channel is great by the way.

Hey :) Just listened to your first podcast, great stuff!

One of the things I liked about the Jeremy Schmidt design is that the table doesn't need to be adjusted if you rotate the grinder 90 degrees. Not a huge deal but the obvious difference to me.

Im an Aussie so the plans also being in metric is helpful, any plans for a distributor down here? I'm really keen on having everything CNC cut over spending hours with a cutting disc.

Love your work!

Hey man, sorry I just saw this message, I thought I would get an email update or something but I don't have the turned on. Any how, yes I have a couple of videos on my channel, not sure if I can post links yet on the forum. Ill give it a shot. (UPDATE it wont let me yet, I will need to make a few more replies first)

This is an entire walk through of the prototype build. Its been refined quite a bit now and we offer laser cut parts and hardware to facilitate an easier build. This grinder has been built 100's of times in over 40 countries! I feel so blessed to be a part of it. Totally life changing work. Thanks again for checking it out.

Hi Joey, yes I really like Jeremy's design for that exact reason. I think I may try to design some thing like that in the future. I do need a distributor in Australia. We set that up in Germany for Europe and it is going well. Not as many sales as the US but pretty good. It takes someone sales focused to push the plans and parts out to the country. Still working on that part. Hit me up privately and we can discuss if you are interested.

That is a sweet looking machine. Is the black wheel from a mower deck?

It's a glass nylon reinforced drive wheel made by origin blade maker, the idea is that it's lighter than aluminum so less rotational mass if you have a lower HP machine. Not sure it actually makes a difference but it was slightly cheaper than a billet wheel so there's that.

I like Jeremery Schmidt’s design but have changed the design to hopefully allow for easier assembly, limit impact of welding heat and to avoid hours of cutting. Picture of samples of some of the parts although all of the parts have been plasma cut. One issue was the stacking of the slope on the 3/8” material in the 90 deg cuts. Added small circle cuts which seems to addressed the issue.

I realize this is from 6 years ago, but would you be willing to share the DXFs or other CAD files for these parts? I have built several Schmidt grinders now and just finished up a homemade CNC gantry for my plasma cutter. I have had something like this in mind for the tubes and this would save me the work of drawing it all up myself.
