i looked around the other day and was going to post this, but got sidetracked:

so i know now isnt the best time to spend money for a lot of people, but heres a deal or two if you can (and can find shipping/pick up in your area)

Craftsman Evolv 6-Piece Screwdriver Set $1.94

Craftsman 14-Piece Screwdriver Set $6.94

Craftsman 10-in-1 Mini Multi-Tool Snips - Red $1.94

Zircon StudSensor SL $7.47

These are all previous blowout sales and it’s pretty much down to store stock.

The screwdrivers were very nice and were $10 for months. I bought a lot of them since I have to give a lot of gifts over the course of a year. I think between all the SYW gimmicks I paid between $2 and $5 a set. It’s nearly identical to the 17 piece set which they sell for $25 except it’s sans the 2 small jewelers screwdrivers and one larger one. You’ll probably be stuck waiting for stores to reopen for these unless some west coast warehouse still has them. If you can get them this is basically a no brainer buy.

The Evolv set is basically exactly the same as the red handle Craftsman ones except for the need for the receipt warranty. These were still available from Kmart to ship to stores as of a week ago Sunday but I don’t have the link handy.

Unfortunately there aren’t too many deals in tools right now as Sears is one of the places with a fairly functional site to home delivery system in place and they aren’t cutting any breaks on much in the line of tools (even Lowe’s has been worse in site orders).

There have been some sporadic restocks on long dead items again if you feel like browsing through pages of stuff.

Are these Craftsman 14 piece screwdriver sets made in China now? When our store closed they were one of the only things still made in the US, but I thought I'd heard they had been switched to China since.

Yes, I believe those are all Chinese-made now. You may always get lucky and get new old stock, but that's probably unlikely.

Are all of the Shop Your Way games basically dead?

This is the link for the evolve screwdrivers through Kmart's site. Available for store pick up for me and shipping despite neither option being available on Sears.com. I can understand not being able to pick up the item in store, but shipping only through Kmart and for $9 more? The biggest turn off at shopping there is the price variance between store and online and between store brands. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in my local Kmart or Sears, see the item on shelf, but listed out of stock and not able to ship or able to ship but at a drastically different price.

Hard to say because they suspended the points. If you find NOS ones the sets will be different piece assortments.

Typical, and it’s more expensive than they normally run them for. I do have a speculation they know there are limited stores open and selling stuff so they’re jacking up prices.

Ouch, 3 pages in to find this thread. Knocking on hells gate, which is what I came to post.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/warren...-line-sears-and-50-kmart-stores-are-left/amp/

The count is wrong. There are 83 Sears, 89 if you count the island stores, 43 Kmarts and 456 Hometown stores.

Whoever did the article must have found the number of open stores not currently locked down. They have the other stores “shut off“ so you can’t do online pickup orders. They’ve been slowly opening as orders get lifted, a few more opened on Friday.

Was gonna comment the reason there haven’t been any deals posted is because they jacked a lot of the prices up (probably because there were limited choices of stores open) but decided to see if that was still the case so I decided to look.

This isn’t a bad deal, 78 piece impact set for $199 usually $239 is the lowest you see them go for and they have the $5 off $50 still.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-78pc-impact-socket-and-accessory-set/p-00941933000P?sellerId=SEARS

Composite impact wrench is down to $79.88 again https://www.sears.com/craftsman-pro...e-impact-wrench/p-00919865000P?sellerId=SEARS

There’s probably other stuff too

Forbes must have discovered their facts were wrong? Looks like they took the article down.

Pretty solid deal here. The 220 piece mechanics set from the “ultimate collection”. Comes with the 3 90 tooth ratchets, the ratcheting wrenches, flare wrenches, ratchet adapters for breaker bars. These are from great star and the finish is much better than their other sources (see pics of some of the ones I scooped up during the $100 on $100 holiday promo). I doubt any of us actually need them but for someone just starting out, a spare set or something they’re heads and tails better than those cheap Husky sockets.

When Sears Canada was closing a few years ago, I picked up four of these (3 for gifts) for $39.99 Canadian and six of the 88 piece for $10.00 each, again for the nephews.

It was sad, but I know those sets are in good homes. LoL

Yeah, I've almost bought that set a couple times now. Somewhat of an odd assortment of wrenches.

The ratchets are nice. I agree the wrench assortment is kinda odd. In fact it would be good if you were lacking in the wrench department.

I keep skipping this one because I want the larger 409 piece ultimate collection one because I like the finish of these for imports vs. the one I picked up on Black Friday a few years ago. Thing is I have so many spare sets of import stuff as of now from all the SYW stuff I can’t really justify it though now they’re offering 5% off and 12 months no interest. Plus there’s the mental factor that I’d actually have to pay for it, at least more than I’d like.

What I'd like from that set is the metric tappet wrenches. The SAE that I have more or less worked recently when I was doing a brake upgrade on my Marauder but it was clear that the fastener was metric...just not accessible between the caliper bracket and caliper without a thin wrench. I've looked at them separately and they're not cheap. Something to consider....

There probably are some on eBay from the sellers that split these sets up and sell pieces, but you pay a hefty premium to the point where you’re almost better off buying the whole set anyway. I know they want like $60 for the 3 piece 90 tooth ratchets.

This is where Sears of old was great. They would have these as an individual set and you’d be done with it, worst case they were a build a tool catalog order. Heck just 10 years ago they still had multiple aisles of specialty auto tools as regular stock.

Of course now there are few Sears, few Kmarts to have Sears stuff sent to, less assortment. It ***** this line was introduced mostly after bankruptcy. Apparently they were supposed to have it during the bankruptcy holiday season in October but most of the line got held back until right after Eddie bought the company. Had it rolled out earlier, being the gambling man I am, I’d have taken my shot on the set and the big $300 on $300 SYW promo of the time.

The local Sears store reopened in May, but they haven't received any delivery trucks since before the nation started to shutdown. Even new ship-to-store orders end up lost in limbo.

Sears has begun hiring temp cashiers for upcoming liquidation events, so some of those reopened stores are in for more bad news.

The Sears Jobs has posted jobs, Kmart is getting deliveries so it’s not a good sign if the Sears isn’t, but then again it depends on where the heck things are being shipped from most likely. PA had some pretty strict lockdowns and the one huge DC is in PA, while I know they shipped stuff out of it during lockdowns I’m not sure if they had any restrictions in place as far as receiving things. While it’s labeled as Kmart they dual use it now because I've gotten Sears stuff out of it just in the past few weeks.

Lawsuit is from over a year ago. What happened is Sears Holdings ordered merchandise during or before bankruptcy.

Merchants established credit with TransformCo when the new company was setting up.

Sale went through after the merchandise had already been shipped. Fast Eddie decided he didn’t want the stuff and refused the delivery. Merchants expected business as usual and want him to pay for the stuff but technically it’s old Sears’ responsibility to pay for it. Old Sears has no money, they can’t pay for it even if they wanted to. Vendors expect Eddie to pick up the tab.

Stuff is over a year old now and he’s not responsible for it (well he is responsible in a way Since he led to the bankruptcy) might be a bad situation for the vendors but that’s the case. There’s no way they’re buying a year old fashions to stock 400 stores when there are like 150 left.

I saw on Facebook that this was summer apparel and he may have had his own orders placed by his buyers when he thought he was going to win the bid because he was unaware the stuff had been ordered and would come in. The delivery was refused because two sets of summer clothes weren’t needed.

Lay-off board says he’s trying to unload Kenmore in a licensing deal like Craftsman which could easily raise enough cash to keep the ball rolling another year.

My Sears will open Friday.
The Mall they are in opened yesterday.

NOTE: Sears (not sure about Sears Hometown) in-store deals, so these links are just for reference.

You may find some good deals on Evolv tools, such as:

Craftsman 12 in. Groove Joint Pliers $3.47 (in-store clearance)

Craftsman 30 pc. Ratcheting T-Handle Set $6.94

Craftsman Evolv 24 pc. Homeowner Tool Set $14.94

Or some deals on regular Craftsman:

Craftsman 7" Rafter Angle Aluminum Square 39601 $2.47 (clearance)

Craftsman 12IN ADJUSTABLE WRENCH $6.94

^^^ none of yours show up for me. ive noticed the 'temporarily unavailable' status as being related to not shippable and none w/in 100 miles or whatever it is.

here are two lame deals i found earlier this week but was waiting 'til i found more before i posted:

Craftsman Professional Use 13mm Combination Ratcheting Wrench $2.99

Craftsman Extreme Grip 3/8-10MM Wrench $1.99

Sorry! That list was meant for people with a reopening store. My store had multiple quantities of those items from before the pandemic shutdown, so I thought others might also find them at their local store.

I'll add a note to the post.

Darn. Looks like online prices are on the rise (for what little is remaining). Maybe Sears thinks they'll sell plenty of tools as we get closer to Father's Day.

They’re price gouging for Father’s Day.

Edit: I didn’t elaborate on this because it was late yesterday. Sears does this traditionally which is weird for a company that has practically given stuff away at times (I have several cases of screwdrivers and pliers to prove it) for the better part of the last 20 years.

They did this for labor day too, which you sometimes see good appliance deals and the last of the lawn and garden, nope, unlike some other retailers they jack the prices up to near historic highs only to reduce the stuff the week after. It’s no wonders they alienated a large number of customers. First a lot of people don’t go to Sears or visit the websites frequently, they drop off on one of those holiday weeks to see a front load washing machine that’s been $799 for weeks at $1199. Of course they think it’s expensive and don’t go there.

Well now they’re doing it with tools and tool sets for dad. Good examples, the ultimate collection mechanics service set with the wrenches has been jacked up to $209, it was $99.94 on the week of thanksgiving. SAE 82 piece set was $79.94 and is now $149.99. The metric 74 piece set was $69.94 and is now $159.99 those were both the week after thanksgiving. With the coupons and points promos you could have had them for $40 or less back then (my purchase history looks like I paid $33 and $36 for them respectively).

Maybe it’s their good gesture? Gee dad, look I got you a fancy $210 tool set! Never mind it was easily yours for $75 or less a few months ago after promos.

I’d have recommended that SAE set to anyone doing small engines at $80 even without coupons and stuff which would have easily gotten the least invested SYW person down for $70. At $150? You’d have to be doing a lot of small engine work and while the finish is better than their standard stuff there are a lot of options once you get to that price level.

I dont' know if anyone ever shops at SearsOutlet.com but i was just refreshing the page for an item I had saved and it linked to https://www.americanfreight.com/ I have never heard of them, but on the FAQ it says American Freight and Sears Outlet have merged. Just found it interesting

That's been in the works for some time - 6 months at least. It's just that they finally got around to changing the name.

We have an American Freight store almost next door to the Sears Outlet store, so I'm sure they'll close one. I've never been there, but my understanding is that they almost solely sell furniture and mattresses, so I wonder how inventory will look going forward. As it is, Sears Outlet has been pretty depressing for the last several years, with very little quality tool inventory coming in and an increasing footprint to cheap home goods. Last time I was there I wondered through the appliances and they all looked terrible with only mediocre discounts.

Our Sears Outlet did just get in another load of NOS Craftsman Professional toolboxes, but prices are still high for what they are.

Sears Hometown and Outlet was split up last year. Franchise Group (owner of Liberty Tax) got Sears Outlet and Buddy's Home Furnishing, while Transformco (owner of Sears) got Sears Hometown.

The confusing part is why Lampert wanted Sears Hometown, because it appears the Hometown stores are still being liquidated.

Oh, I figured Transformco is trying to hold onto their remaining stock for future store liquidations.

Since they hire a professional liquidator, I assume some liquidators will not be interested in a contract where there isn't a chance to make much profit. I'm not sure who pays for all that extra staff during liquidations (temp cashiers, security, human billboards, etc).

I was just in that former Sears Outlet yesterday and they received a TON of "new" merchandise from other outlet stores; I'm talking pallets of oven-sizes boxes full of merchandise from closed Sears stores. The sales clerk told me his back room is packed with the same filled boxes that need to be sorted through. Some of the items I went through were old-stock wrenches and sockets that were USA made so maybe there is some hope for quality items if one looks through it all.

As far as the tool boxes go, I will play the waiting game with them and score a deal. They always seem to be high on price at first, but mark them down regularly until they're gone; similar to store closing sales.
