It is gone, that matters more. ;)

Been talking to a guy in Nevada that sells and ships my kind of junk cars. He has a burb that I can have for $6k delivered, it fits the bill very well. His prices seem very fair and he deals with the shipping, so that is a plus.

I just need something to start with that isn’t rusty, I know I have the zero mile Virginia burb, but that is going to be the experienced project truck, don’t want it to be my first. I think right now I will need to cut some corners, I don’t want that to happen with the zero mile truck.

I did find a rust free Tahoe in New Hampshire and another rust free burb with a bad engine in Long Island. The Tahoe, is just a Tahoe, the burb is what I am looking for, but I think it will cost me a lot more effort to get and it is white (not my first choice), if the price was low enough, I would take a trip.

I think the Long Island one is a good buy. Will be talking to the seller shortly, the truck was his Dad’s, who has passed away, they say the engine is bad, but runs, it came from Nevada four years ago, but only has 80k miles, underside looks great and I just found out engine is a 454.

Honestly, I will probably just tear it apart and make a mess, then ***** when I can’t get it back together.

I know that feeling. Here’s what I’m currently working on.

BH, looks like what I will be doing soon.

Taking the maroon burb and trailer. Not going to take the ferry this time.

I am not thrilled about it, but at this point if I can have a nice rust free burb, white is not the worst color they offered. I would actually like the white exterior better if it had a blue interior.

I am making my list of things I will need to do the tear down, shouldn’t be too bad, almost every issue I encountered before was rust or something I didn’t know how to undo, now that I have taken apart a couple, I have most of it figured out. I can say one thing for sure, if the body mount bolts won’t easily move by hand, I am going to take out the carpet and drill holes so I can oil the snot out of them. I don’t expect to have any issues, but at least I have a game plan.

Also moved Pane over next to the F700 knuckle boom so I could see what will and won’t work, looks like the actual propane tank won’t fit because of the outrigger. Besides that the tank has a leak, there is a cover that has all the ports on it, looks like the gasket around that is leaking. I will have to empty the tank to fix it, no way to shut it off, so that may be a process. I think you can fill smaller tanks using a larger one, that may be the best way, otherwise it will be a lot of running the engine, still have a 1/4 tank (20 gallons or so).

550 needs more diagnostic work, has been raining pretty bad, haven’t had the time.

Perk is in need of parts, and engineering.

White with that color interior was what I had. In Colorado, where the sun is closer than god, white is a desired color. You can fry eggs on a black car in august.

On the plus side, the hot sun does pop hail dimples out!

Draining the propane sounds like a good excuse to fire up the Jumbo BBQ rig! You do have a jumbo BBQ rug? right?

No jumbo BBQ rigs.....

I finally got to look at the F550 again, we got about 5" of rain since Sunday, today was the first real dry day. There was a spot under the truck that was clearly coolant, so I investigated, lots of wet in the engine valley, but I can't pin point it. It is like I though, once the truck cools off is when it leaks, I don't have a coolant pressure tester, so I ordered one, I suspect that will show me where the coolant is coming from. Just got the trailer hooked up and ready to go, except the damn lights don't work, then I remembered I was supposed to fix that. :( So tomorrow I am going to fix the connector on the burb and get the lights working. I am also thinking I may rotate the tires. I really think this is going to be never ending.........

I am pretty well convinced that I will be looking for an AWD Honda Element for my DD, seems to fit the bill well and they seem to be very dependable. I will get one from down south though, no sense in starting with a rusty POS on that either. It should give me decent cargo space and I can use a small trailer too.

It is a very clean burb for sure, my buddy is trying to get me to just fix the engine. I can’t say no yet, just depends on what is wrong with the engine. Owner says it is blown, but runs, not sure exactly what that means.

If you just want a daily driver, fix this engine and then keep looking for another clean one to trick out.

I wish it was already at my place, Sunday is going to be a long day, will be leaving around 4 AM.

Had a long talk with a good friend tonight, I think I’m order to avoid all the DOT BS, I think I am going to just make a really big RV. Not sure exactly what or how yet, but OMO would be the best choice due to most states having overall length limits that are shorter than commercial truck and trailer combinations. I have two major hurdles/issues, one is that I still want a knuckle boom or some sort of crane (would have to be mounted to trailer), two is if I use OMO, the RV portion will have to be separated from the cab due to the way the cab lifts for engine access, that makes the overall length longer, but, I think I can make it work. The crappy part is that I am not sure I will be able to get more than one truck/burb at a time with the knuckle boom mounted to the trailer. So I will need to take measurements, but each state seems to be different with overall length and trailer lengths, might have to say no go in the worst states, but it looks like I will have to confirm with each state, I am seeing different rules listed for the same state on some of the RV websites. The worst I saw and it was bad, was 53’ overall length with a 28’ trailer length, that would make things really tough. Most states are 65’ overall length with 45’ trailer length, that is much more realistic.

Out here in the wide open west, we don't seem to have very many joining states (Wyoming doesn't count, I don't think they have laws). How often do you do business in other states?

how about like this?
