EASCO sockets. Which is older?

I am putting together a 1/4" Easco 6pt socket set and have noticed two distinct socket types. Which one is older?

Differences:
Type1 _______ Type2
Large font____ Smaller font
Shallow font __ Deep font
Round center__ Square center
6pt shallower__ 6pt goes deeper into socket
Round edges __ More sharp(90 degree) edges

I tried to explain the differences but I am sure the pictures do a much better job :). In the pictures: type1 is always on the left, type2 always on the right.

Which is better? I think type2 is better. The deeper forged font is easier to read, the square center is larger allowing a larger bolt to pass, the 6pt runs deeper in the socket.

Please help! Thank you!!

I think you are right about the one being a bit nicer. Not sure about the age, but generally speaking the older ones are a bit nicer.

I would almost bet that type 2 the one that is more squared off over all is older. The rounded corners are a "newer" thing to try and reduce rounding bolt heads. This is my guess at least.

Thanks guys!

Looking back at my pics there aren't any clear shots of internal points strait on. I am pretty sure both are straight edge (not radius edge). I'll confirm that tomorrow. The round center I talk about is at the internal base of the socket just above the drive(pics 3 and 4). The round edges I talk about are at the external base of the socket(pics 5 and 6).

You are definitely right straight edge is older than radius edge(craftsman didn't go with radius until ~90, maybe same for easco). I now also believe the round center is newer. I have two sets of Craftsman -V- sockets. One mixed with -G- sockets when bought new(from 80s) has the round center. The other came in a metal holder (much older) has the square center.

I think we have a winner :)
