DaveT: I need to make some bench tops like yours! I have neither the knowledge, tools, skills nor patience needed, unfortunately...

Climatecreator, that is a beautiful box. Doesn't matter what it was intended for, it has elegant lines.

As you probably know, Corbin was the manufacturer of the lock. They probably have no other connection to the maker.

Maybe a tackle box?
That'd be my guess. I see them or boxes like them fairly often. ClimateCreator can attest, but I think the gauge of the steel is too thin for tools.

I got the cabinet hung on the wall tonight. The green color is a nice match with the 14-C-15 Lyon military cabinet.
Yeah it is! That is a terrific looking corner/section of your shop. I remember when you found the cabinet and I identified it as a WWII era 41-C-15 for you, but I didn't remember or it didn't really register with me that it was made by Lyon. So I went back and found your original post announcing the Facebook find. Is it actually marked Lyon?

Lugs: Yep I remember you pointing out the 41-C-15 and all the other great information you had. When I first posted this on Instagram it was pointed out to me by @dorsetfinds that this was made by LYON Metal Products out of Aurora IL, and that there might be a makers mark under the butcher block. I don’t think I ever looked for a mark but I thought that I had done a little fact checking online. Now I’m second guessing myself after a quick Google search. May be worth a little further investigation.

Yeah I agree it definitely is unique. No it doesn't matter who made it either but it is definitely nice to know. Indeed being from CT I'm very aware of Corbin.....

It's actually petty stout. Weighs 5 lbs empty. Plus all that paneling they did really stiffened it up. The dividers I think we're removed so they could use it line a tool box, whoever painted it I'm guessing. It appears to be missing feet? Guessing by the holes in each corner.

Solar: great old wood box and you should post it on the wood cabinet thread and maybe you'll get a few more good responses. some of those guys also have some pretty cool old boxes in case you might want to know what to use to keep it preserved for another 100 years.

the story was even better than the cool old tool box.

Alinc: did you also post this in the show your plvmb thread cause those old boxes are not easy to find and maybe one of the guys there can sniff out who bought it if you can't.

USER: well stocking up on those beefy old military cabinets is a good thing isn't it? nice find AGAIN!!

I had this cabinet given to me. I thought initially it was ice box however no insulation. Seems maybe a medical cabinet. Possibly for day use as inside has drain

DaveT That is a great cabinet. I had been looking for some lab cabinets with sliding doors but I ran across a 6' long one for 5 bucks and it has regular doors so I kind of gave up on the sliding doors. I found two other lab cabinets and painted the big one to match them, now I have about 12' with regular doors, I am happy but I would have much preferred sliding I think. The bench top is 16' of bowling alley. I am still deciding which vises to bolt down to it, the 4C is so damn big and it takes so log for the handle to go around... I am also DaveT BTW.

pelletman,

I know you posted this a while ago but have to say your holding out on that collection (bikes?) hanging above your cabinets that are barely visible in the pic. Any pics of those, Looks like vintage cruisers?
I know what you mean about which vise to use for the bench, I found the big cool factor vises are too big/too tall and not practical for everyday use on the bench. I find projects that require big vises need much more elbow room and work much better on there own solid pedestal at a lower height for the avg. human.

My 3.5" and 4" vise get used daily with a smile among the 20 or so vises I have laying around. My non used big vises generally do a fantastic job stubbing my big toe.

By the way, I have those same Lyon cabinets and love them, nice Lista's too.

Got this at a garage sale on Sunday last day for it rolls like butter and at least 80lbs. Couldn’t pass on it for $20

Here is my Bear Mfg. Co. cabinet I just picked up this afternoon. Original paint and no dents! Pretty good shape for the age, which I believe to be late 40's or early 50's.

I think it is an ice box. The drain and galvanized lining is the clue to me. Insulation like we know today didn't exist in first part of last century. Thick wood often did the job.

Here is a couple of my other cabinets. The Delco was a Craigslist find that I have had for a couple years now, and the Anco I won from a local online auction.

Ryan: I like that Delco cabinet. I had a chance to get one off Marketplace a while back and didn’t go for it. Been regretting it!

Picked this small MSA First Aid cabinet out of the garbage the other day. Still has some original supplies dating from the early 1980's. Its in decent shape and has small hinged tabs on either side to hang on the wall.

This thread is not for sale postings but thought some of you might be interested in this and live nearby it. It's a cool looking metal Rotobin with many draws for sale in San Pedro, CA for $100. I wish I had the space otherwise I would have already been in my car to pick it up.

Not sure who made it? Check out all the removable trays and drawers.

Here's a link to GJ thread for "Found a deal" that has the link to the ad.

Westphal wood screw carousel operation and construction video.
Patent 1874.
<iframe width="721" height="541" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OcaI1AZrI_g" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Picked at a auction yesterday.
Wood screw carousel? I need internet search help with it. Please PM me if your a good searcher.

Photo update of Westphal countertop carousel.
I think its for wood screws. Smallest bin marked "3/8 3", largest bin marked 3 18.

This is unreal to me! It has this small label stuck to a bottom bin divider, "Patterson General Hardware" sold out in 1895 according to Google book "Farm Implement News" Jan. 1895 page 50.

Its in worst shape than first thought, the fact of PO's moving this contraption without taking it a part is the reason for the damage and missing parts at the bottom. Its extremely fragile and assembled as a "house of cards" in reverse. Loosening 1 tensioning bolt and that level of bins literally falls apart.

HELP!
