they might sell both. Honestly good sockets are broached deeply.
Yes a shallow broach helps install nuts, but you can still do it otherwise.
However a shallow broach always, always, always significantly increases the amount of clearance you need to use that socket because the socket will rise off of a stud (or end of a bolt) with the nut since it cannot get into the socket.
Honestly it's a really annoying design for general purpose usage. The drawback FAR outweighs the benefit. But hey.. both styles are produced and some brands make both.
