they might sell both. Honestly good sockets are broached deeply.

Yes a shallow broach helps install nuts, but you can still do it otherwise.

However a shallow broach always, always, always significantly increases the amount of clearance you need to use that socket because the socket will rise off of a stud (or end of a bolt) with the nut since it cannot get into the socket.

Honestly it's a really annoying design for general purpose usage. The drawback FAR outweighs the benefit. But hey.. both styles are produced and some brands make both.

Anyone get their ordered canceled for #1863 due to inability to fulfill the demand? I just bought Pro and that was my first order, a disappointing start to the membership.

Mine got cancelled too but they sent me a code for 50% off any regular priced item. Not sure what I plan on buying yet.

I ordered 6 items and they were supposed to send an email notifying me when they shipped. I did get the email, within 5 minutes of most of my order arriving. 4 of the 6 items arrived, with no indication what is happening with the other 2. But so far i am impressed with initial quality

I contacted SK about the items ordered being marked as pending and never shipped. They said that there is something wrong with their software and they have to manually go in and marked every item shipped, so it looks like they aren't doing that. I was told this the same day that my pliers showed up to my house. So if you order something and don't get a shipping confirmation, it is probably already on its way.

I have 3 or 4 orders in my account that I received within the past few months that are still showing "pending".

I left a voice mail with Sk customer service after recieved my partial order. I did get a call back a few hours later stating the rest of my order will ship in 2-3 days, and that the customer usually gets notified when items don't ship along with the rest of the order.

Sounds like SK needs to invest some time and money into their website and inventory management.

To add to the discussion about S-K's website/fulfillment. I ordered 10 items, they came in 4 separate shipments - all within one day of each other, same carrier, and same return address as well. Perhaps they were blind shipped from different locations, but if not it sure doesn't make sense to pay Fedex 4 times instead of once. Nothing was large or heavy either, and some were in a box 10 times bigger than necessary (dimensional weight is spendy $$$). I love S-K and will continue to support American manufacturing whenever I can. It just seems if you don't fix some of these "bugs" you may lose any profitability you have?

How does the $50 socket of the month club work? Do you get a monthly email notification to pick your socket or what?

Hi M6Z, yes you do. They usually send it out around the 5th of the month. You can pick from a variety of sockets from 1/4"-1/2" shallow and deep as well as impact sockets. It's definitely worth the $50, especially because you get free shipping which, with the Steals and Deals section, works out really well. On the flip side, you can't use any of the coupons that they send you with the Steals and Deals section.

I just received another portion of my order (shipment #2, one item in the box), some long reach slip joint needle nose pliers. The jaws come together tight, but are misaligned by roughly 1/16th. I sent an email to SK, and they responded within 30 minutes they will be sending a new pair.

So the $50 socket of the month is you pay $50 once and then after a year you pay it again correct? I heard about this a year or 2 ago but never found out much. Or is it $50 each month??

It's 50 dollars yearly. You get a free socket of your choice from a list of 300 plus sockets every month. You get free shipping on any order. You also get special discount codes every so often.

On top of everything else, SK has a Promo code right now: ITS26OFFSK

26% off. Not quite the 30% from Dads day, but nice since I needed (really, I did) some stuff.

You are looking at this from a customer perspective rather than a business prospective. They don't pay fedex "four times", they negotiate essentially a flat rate based on volume and history. They don't pay per package, they pay based on aggregate volume. In addition, the reduction in labor costs more than offsets the shipping cost. Most business process orders this way to save money and improve efficiency.

Following up on my own post. SK quickly sent me out a replacement for the poor quality pliers they initially sent. Problem with the replacement they sent........is that it's the wrong tool. Right item number on the bag, but the wrong tool in the bag. 17811 is what I needed, 7811 was in the bag. :rocker:

Man...they are not making it easy on themselves.

Just following up with more SK disappointment. SK customer service has been responsive but is struggling to correct their mistakes. Confused on what they have sent me, and have stated false lead times more thr once. I am liking the stuff i got so far, and am hoping they pull through soon!

Thanks GJ. Convinced myself to spend $200+ while this pandemic is causing some folks to go hungry :( May need to make a donation to the local food bank for some personal redemption...

Bought the little dbe metric wrenches (wanted a 9x10mm, but it alone is $38!), 3/8 crow foot flare wrench, 16 inch alignment bar, and the interchangeable 22 oz hammer (worth it for the tips alone).

Please note they can sometimes run out of stock quickly so would recommend you guys get your orders in!

They should really use some more foresight in their postings... They already offered two of the DBE wrenches last month, 11mm/12mm and 13mm/14mm. OK good deal and nice wrenches - so now for Sept they're going to offer a set with three additional wrenches? So you're SOL if you purchased the two individuals the prior month. I know we're not entitled to receive the cost savings but that didn't really make sense to me.

On top of that, I've already had an order canceled for a socket set that was in-stock, stating the reason for cancellation was that the item was out of stock. I don't understand how that happens when you're the manufacturer of said item? Just honor your price and backorder me if that's the case.

I've also never received any shipment notification and all of my orders are marked 'pending'. However I have received all of my orders in their entirety. Not a big deal just to echo the same sentiment as others.

Little rant. Sorry to go old man yelling at cloud but they really need to shape up the whole experience. The twelve free sockets for the SK PRO at $50 is worth it alone, but the rest of the experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Yeah, I thought that was odd as well. The five wrenches isn't really a complete set either. Needs a 10mm at the very least.

I suspect Steals and Deals is just the way they promote overstocked tools. As good as way as any good to get rid of excessive inventory.

How does the free socket thing work? I signed up last week - do they send you some socket notification or did I miss something in reading. I did get my initial coupon for my first order.

They send an email with the free socket code on the 5th (or maybe 4th?) every month.

It's hit or miss, I suppose, with what SK decides to blow out each month with these sales, but the deep offset box wrench seems a pretty fair deal. I paid $150 from Harry Epstein for the eight-piece set back in February. No regrets.

I still have one of the first tool sets I ever bought, a three-piece set of deep offset SAE box wrenches from Sears Dunlap, made in Japan, from the 1970s. I am surprised I didn't wear out the 1/2 x 9/16 with the number of times I took apart and reassembled my bicycles in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

These wrenches are a go-to-favorite of mine. I might even have to buy this $50 set because it's such a good deal and I could toss them in my to-go toolbox I take on road trips.

If anyone grabbed an extra set of the 17811 long slip joint pliers that they want to sell let me know mine got cancelled when I tried ordering them. They don’t have to be in perfect shape thanks
