Found Me A Walker Roll-A-Car 740

Saturday I picked up a working (it goes up) Walker Roll-A-Car 740 G mechanical jack via CL. I actually first saw it posted back in December 2018 for $55, but by the time I had time to go get it the ad was gone. Then earlier last week it popped up again for $40. I offered $35 – done.

I have a vague recollection of using a similar mechanical jack back in the early 70s when I worked in a gas / repair station.

There are a couple minor flaws (missing cotter pins and a rivet or 2) I would like to correct and, as if I need another project, I would like to restore it. It would be useful to have a parts diagram or manual but my search here and on Google came up blank. I did find others here with the same jack and wanting a parts diagram or manual – but no luck as far as I can tell.

Has anyone found a manual since the last inquiry?

I do have one question. Does it need weight (like a car) on it to lower? I flipped the lever on the left but it doesn't lower.

If you have a car on it and flip it to lower, it will not lower. You have to jack it down with the big jacking lever (just like jacking it up). Once it starts coming down, it will jack itself down. Be careful, the lever will wip back and forth pretty fast and it hurts if it hits you. If you want to only come down a notch or two, keep your hand on it and slowly jack it down. I haven't jacked it up with nothing on it in a while and will have to check but I believe If there is nothing on the jack, flip the lever and then, move the big jacking lever forward and hold it and it should drop right down. If that doesn't work, move the big jacking lever back then forward hold.

I further checked my jack out this morning. If you keep jacking past all of the way up, the lever will flip and you then can jack the car down. Also, I jacked mine up empty, flipped the lever , moved the big jacking handle forward and the jack dropped right down.

I'm doing some spring cleaning but I'll try to get the jack under something to test it out.
