Matias, nice to hear from you. I have a collection of motion sensors including several generations of Smarthings, Fibaro, Hue (awesome!!), and Ecolink. Ecolink is a zwave motion sensor using CR123A (larger lithium) cells that do last a long time as I've yet to replace any of them (2 years +). They are as reliable as the Hue sensors for me.
My shop is largely unheated so the ST sensors on my garage door and man door do not last long in the cold...like 6-8 months tops.
Despite the Covid lockdowns, we did manage to graduate my youngest from Grade 6 to an all French highschool. This was one of my favorite pics taken early in the summer during the outdoor graduation ceremony
The summer has seen us out at camp pretty much every weekend. This is a rather lame picture, but it gives you an idea. Other than LED light upgrades, new speakers and a main slide out floor repair, I tried to enjoy the summer on the lake. We made some new friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience...so next year we'll add a few decks and an outdoor screen house.
Camp was pretty awesome as we enjoyed outdoor gatherings with family, sailing and boating on the lake. My youngest daughter and I went for many late night walks along the lake shore to find frogs and the occasional turtle laying eggs as it turned out. I have to admit this is the first time my lifetime actually observing this live. We took a quick pic and left her alone
Not really much to post about in the shop as it was limited to a massive clean up, and then repair work on the aging CRV. I did a radiator and thermostat last weekend. Time for a new car, so I'm looking long and hard at EV options as the town runabout vehicle.
Just a random observation on one product that I really liked this summer. I was intrigued by "smokeless" fire pits so ordered up the Solo stove for use at camp and at home as well. It's a stainless steel fire pit with draft air and secondary burn that actually works. I've taken a pic of it beside a deck chair for scale.
I took this screen grab from a video, but it does indeed work quite well, even with green wood. You can see the secondary burn happening via preheated air entering via the top ring of air supply holes. This image was taken burning green leaves and branches that fell out of our backyard butternut tree during a wind storm this summer...with near zero smoke. It works almost as well as our high efficiency fireplace with secondary burn. Someone just needs to figure out a way to have heat radiating more efficiently now...
The only downsides are a little less radiated heat, (I think I'll try a steel heat dome a few feet above), and less visual appeal as you don't see the coals so much. It does generate about 90% or more less smoke than a comparable fire though
Oh, and after cancelling an Ikea kitchen order that dragged out 2 months over the early Covid lockdowns, I re-ordered yesterday for our basement. They are saying 1 week to delivery so we'll see.
