I dragged home an old filing cabinet from work and had to clean out the corner of the shop behind the door to make space. Turns out that corner had just been collecting junk since I moved in 5 years ago. I pulled out 60 lbs of those old cement filled plastic barbell weights as well as a couple bars and a disassembled weight bench.

Since I hadn't even thought about it in 5 years I put it on Kijiji at a get-rid-of-it-quick price. Turns out Covid has sent the price of home exercise equipment through the roof and I should have charged six times what I listed it for. Oh well, I've got some cash in my pocket and a bit more space in the shop.

I listed it first thing in the morning and had 5 folks contact me before I made it to work.

The legs came from a 2x4Basics kit. They're a very thick nylon. Yeah, NOT very elegant but I decided to copy Crewbus's bench from this old picture. Mine will be almost identical.

For the last two days, I have been cleaning/straightening what will be the small shop in my garage. It has been a makeshift work area since we moved in, but nothing organized. I have (slowly... very slowly) been organizing it into a functional area.

My shop is a MESS. We bought the house in Aug 2018 and the shop and carport have been little more than a storage area. I’ve been getting it straightened up lately. When my oldest son said to consider giving him tools for Christmas, I told him to come over and bring his brother. I had just finished assembling a 26” Craftsman top box for each of them with what I consider to be all the basic tools someone should start out with.

1) Shallow and deep metric sockets plus ratchets and extensions in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive.

2) 14 piece metric combo wrench set

3) Hex keys in SAE and metric

4) 18 pc screwdriver set (4 flat, 4 Phillips, 10 precision drivers consisting of flat, Phillips, and torx)

5) 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” adjustable wrenches


So now that their boxes are out of my shop, I can work on getting my shop cleaned up and usable.

So THAT’s what I did in my shop today.

Big day-

1) Cleaned the shop, filled my work van with junk and made a landfill run
2) While I was out, I stopped and had the exhaust system replaced
3) Stopped at the body shop and had some paint made up
4) Came home and watched a swarm of roofers tear-off and re-shingle my house

I can't believe how quick they got my whole house done. I've never done a roof (other than assisting my dad as a kid). It would have taken me forever, plus I hate ladders. These guys came and knocked the whole job out in one day. It was the same guy who did the roof on my shop, so I knew he was good. I don't hire things out very often, but it's nice when it goes so well, and it feels like money well spent.

Yesterday, I played machinist because it was snowing sideways for brief moment. The majority of the day was too cold and windy for me to work outside. I opted to work infront of the lathe and the milling machine for a change of pace. I bored out the old mastercylinder from project big MF'er. Originally I was going to try my hand at rebuilding these units with oversized seals and pistons. Since I found cheap aftermarket units these are just scrap. I refinished the bore and milled it in half for visual reference. I am going to try and explain how it functions in a video.

Mostly cleaning out the Oak tool box I got Sat. and putting things away (Still).

I still have no idea who made the box. Not a single marking on it anywhere, inside or out, and I even checked the bottom of the box!

I also spot welded the hinge back onto the lid of a 95 years old KampKook camp stove

After hooking up some new outlets in the house bathroom i finally made it out to the garage. I cut 4 drilled rotors of a 2005 Mercedes Benz. He's coming to pick them up in the morning.

Stood up the columns of the second lift, a used Mohawk System I. Compared to the System II I have, this thing is definitely a big step up, even though the System II is already a very solid lift compared to so many others in the same class! Sanded the columns and all parts, ready for paint.

Now waiting for the seal kits, rebuilding the cylinders and putting it all together.

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone voted yesterday and or in advance. Last night I finished up the video of the mastercylinder machining. I posted a picture earlier in the week. In the video I review the process, show some of the machining in a condensed format, and attempt to explain how the pieces function inside. Originally I confused myself when contemplating if these were worth the effort to rebuild. The key, where I confused myself, is the spring pushes against the plastic cup and the check valve moves inside the plastic cage. This is the check valve that blocks the feed.

Oh boy, what have I been doing in my garage (typical 2-car attached, not my shop)... siding repair on the garage south wall, some cleaning and downsizing in garage, building overhead shelving for more storage, reinforcing ceiling joists in spots along the walls to support more load for the overhead shelving and cabinets (planned, not built yet), installing a retractable attic ladder in the garage ceiling, and an electric service panel upgrade (finally!) to a Square D Homeline with more capacity... plus added 3 new breakers/circuits just for my garage. And now wiring up 3 x duplex outlets in the ceiling to one of those new 20 amp circuits, just to power overhead lights and electric drop cord reels.

I happily loaded a cedar chest into my sister's car. Its nice to have the lost space back in the garage. Now, what to do with everything else???? I feel some much needed stacking and organizing coming on. While doing so I realized the trade marked logo on my new cab was a heating and cooling company truck. 'York'. My sister's fiance noticed the snow flake was half sun and half snow flake. Good eye! I always just assumed it was a snow plow company.

Since the internals look a lot like most of the Goodman-Amana offerings, they should be pretty good. They don't look like anything especially high end or ******.

I run commercial buildings & have several York Chillers/Air handlers in the portfolio. I know we have several of their residential splits scattered around as well. Their commercial grade stuff has been reliable, but I don't get into the weeds much with the split systems so can't really speak to those.

I've got a York furnace in my house that we're just about to replace at 15 years old. It's still got some life left but the ventor motor has been giving us trouble for the last little while (first it was noisy, now it's occasionally tripping the limit switches). They want about $650 CDN to replace the motor so we're going to upgrade the whole works to something more efficient.

Let me know if you want the badges from the furnace for the low price of postage and I'll pull them off for you before she goes away!

As for my shop time, I'm trying to turn my Saskatchewan Roughrider branded hard hat (if you know Canadian football you know how nuts we 'Rider fans are) into an arborist's helmet and last night I got the ear muffs mounted up. Now I just need to track down a cheap face screen and I'm all set for chainsawin' and whipper-snipperin'.

I also put some air couplers on a spare 50' hose and my portable tank of questionable provenance. I figure if I keep the pressure around 50 psi it'll fill tires without blowing up in my face until I figure out a fun way to home-hydro-test it.
