No dog, I am currently owned by three cats.....

Today I am working on trying to get Dad’s skidder back together with my repair buddy, he had to have one steering ram sent out and machined winced the threaded portion was damaged badly. Since we will be down at the Quonset hut, I am also going to dig out the hy-ram, need to move the Maroka track dump time get to it.

First thing this morning I am headed to the dump, then to the SG to get some pallets, then back to TH to get some more pallets, then to the dump again.

That's amazing how much there is to clean up and haul away!

Question, do you/your company actually own the little bit of land that the tower(s) are on, or lease/rent? How does that work??

First off, my company doesn’t technically own any towers. I manage them, in some instances my Dad’s company owns the tower and the land, in others, just the tower on Leased land.

Went to the dump and got rid of yesterday’s mess, then went to the SG and picked up all the extra pallets that were soon to be in the way. I am now headed to the Hill to meet up with my help so we can try and get the skidder functional again.

Here is the Cascadia in the daylight, it is in much better condition than I expected, might be able to sell it to someone as a rolling chassis.

S&A, there was trash I had loaded in a second dump trailer from my Grandfather’s last out building. The steel will go to the scrap yard for sure. Also, I found one of the dimes that was made of fiberglass. It is now on its way to the dump along with a lot of old PVC pipe, this will be my third trailer load today.

And a broken plastic one.

I think that Cascadia could be a movie prop, being pulled by the camera truck while they shoot the folks in the cab or the truck that gets blown up in the action flick.

Thanks. Strouty. I needed the reminder to keep my place clean, in case I become incapacitated,.........or dead. Don't want to leave a mess.

X, Dad doesn’t care about the mess, so I have to deal with it. :(

1G, I do have a bigger dump trailer, but Perk isn’t setup properly yet. I need to get started on that soon.

Third load of the day:

We got the skidder back together and one seal blew out again, seems like something is no longer round inside and fluid is getting by the seal, so it is still not usable. We did park it out back of the Quonset hut so things could get shuffled around, the Maroka started up with a quarter turn of the key, tomorrow I will be able to get some pictures of what we did, this afternoon was a mad rush since I had some help and the daylight was dropping. I did get one load of tires, still have at least another load. Will be curious how expensive the fee will be, they said $175 a ton, but I don’t have a reference point yet. Some tires are on the old split rims, cost a bit more to get rid of, but worth it to not have them floating around forever.

I was doing pretty well, found a few more tires, tossed one in, hit it just right, tire water (disgusting black goo) got me so bad, it was running down my forehead. I just cleaned up a bit, so I don't smell like old tires now. ;)

I am trying to find my other 2" ball (currently it is attached to the bottom side of the 2 5/16" on the burb) that way I can take the 550 over to the tower site and pick up the scrap steel, unfortunately I think it is over at the SG, so I may have to unhook the trailer from he burb and retook it with the regular 2 5/16" ball. I ordered a couple more of the combo hitches so that I won't have to deal with this again, but really I just need to swap the entire hitch on the little dump trailer to a 2 5/16" setup, then all the trailers will be the same size.

Glad you have stuff getting cleaned up. Too bad it's your dad's mess. At least it will be less to clean up at a later date.

Icky tire water/goo...

Are your other wounds getting better?

I finally have all but one trailer on the same size hitch ball. Since it is the smallest trailer I own, and doesn't get pulled much, It isn't a big deal. Both of the trucks have tri ball hitches on them so as long as I don't forget to put the 2 5/16 back in the up position it isn't a problem.

The idea of making all the hitches the same sounds like the best plan. And are you saying you don't recommend the empty tire water shower?

Head still has a decent lump, black eye is fading fast, probably look normal again next week.

I have a couple of the tri-ball hitches, but they are over at the SG, only one is a combo 2 5/16” and 2”, of course it was hooked up to a 2 5/16” trailer. :(

Next week all the trucks will have both style hitches, a combo pintle with 2 5/16” and a combo 2” and 2 5/16”, so this won’t happen to me again.

Glad to see so much progress lately. I know it is tough work, but it must feel good to have things done. Thanks for sharing with us.

It does feel good, but also mixed emotions, a lot of what I am doing is not for me, so it is tough thinking that I could be getting my stuff done. In the end it all benefits me, some things way more than others. Dad won’t hardly notice the cleanup effort, he will just come and stuff more things into the new spaces. :(

Today I am on my own, the main effort is going to be dump and scrap runs. I have two loads ready to go, so it should be relatively easy to get a lot moved. Both the dump and the scrap yard are less than 10 minutes away. I am going to be viscous with things today, I just need to clear up room to get somewhat organized. Also going to list some things on marketplace, a lot of it for free, the labor to move it again is not worth the time and money. I hope to have the majority of the tires gone today, there are some that I want to keep the rims, so those will have to hang around for a little bit, but not too many. I can work on dismounting them inside the shop after dark. The scrap yard is closed for the weekend, but the dump is open on Saturday, I can get a load in early if needed, after that, the place is a mad house.

Perk decided to have the transmission break today, but it is still usable, I lost the split shift for the top gears. :(

Dumped the tires, looks like first load is about a ton, that is less than expected.

You've been making steady progress sorting and picking up! This is very hard work on rural properties, as many of us know all too well. Nicely done!

Thanks, it ***** while it is being done, but once you start to make a dent, it feels a lot better. I just wish I was doing this at the SG instead of the Hill. :(

Looks like I found a home for a lot of the spruce beams, that makes me happy, I was all set to start cutting them up. ;)

This morning has been slower going as I am taking pallet racking down, so I have to unload things as I go. I think I will be able to consolidate a bunch of stuff, plus the dump runs are making things palatable again. Once I fill up the trailer, I am going to the dump, then I have to go get the scrap trailer and dump that, then I can really start picking through stuff, a lot is just plain scrap now.

Purely coincidental, the real difference is my GF’s schedule, I can be up and out at the time I want to be, it always seems that if I can’t be gone before 7, it is always closer to noon before things get going. Right now I am out of the house a bit after 6 and that is about perfect. This is one of the main reasons I am adding a second bathroom to the house on the Hill, fighter her for time in the morning is not an option. ;)

Today started good, but now my plans have been a bit foiled, going to lose at least a trip to the dump, but sometimes you can’t avoid issues. :(

Nice looking stacks of wood there! Is that lumber that you guys milled earlier in the year?
That is several thousand dollars worth of lumber.

Looking good Strouty. How about some drone shots of of the property at the Hill and the SG. Give you some practice :)

Lumber is old stuff Dad did 25 years ago. Mostly spruce, going to good homes.

Drone footage will be coming at some point, it has been fairly windy, today was not as bad, but I have been a headless chicken so far.

I need to get some lights going in the Quonset hut and some lights on the forklift, ***** to be out of business before 5, especially when it is still over 60 degrees and no humidity. :(

I did make it to the scrap yard, got almost $82 for about a ton of steel, better than paying to dispose of tires. ;)

It is just a cab off of a garbage truck or some sort of low entry cab over. Dad had some dream of it with big tires and axles, kind of like how I have dreams now......

So tires don't recycle? or is that just a pain in the **** to do and the dump is the best way? My only frame of reference is the per tire fee the tire shop charges me.

Lights are good. Maybe a few of those trailer flood light setups that the highway department uses?

Maybe a truck mounted one? You must have enough parts and pieces laying around to throw something together?
