We've had the opportunity to see vises, tool boxes, old tools, etc. What machine tools do you have (lathes, mills, drill presses, band saws, etc.)? Be sure to include vintage machinery, restored or otherwise. The more photos, the better!

Is that a 914 in your avatar image? Do you use your tools on that?

A couple of 50's era Oliver track loaders, they serve as anvils, shop press and a stout workbench/mounting point for anything that I want to bend. They also serve as a metal crusher, just ask my battery charger.

Yes I use my tools on both of my 914’s and also the rest of my cars, as well as other friends cars. My cars only go to the shop for alignments and that’s only because I haven’t found a reasonably priced Hunter alignment machine yet.

I'm not sure what the dividing line is for 'machine tools'. I also have three bench grinders, a MIG welder, a hydraulic press, A 6x48 belt sander, a drill press, etc.

Nothing spectacular:

Grizzly 10" lathe (G0602)
HF mill/drill (the bigger green one)
Older HF (Taiwan) benchtop drill press (13spd? works slow enough for drilling steel)

Nothing too fancy. 11" South Bend lathe, 15" Baileigh benchtop drill press, 1960's Craftsman horizontal band saw, Matco(Wisstoa) 7" bench grinder, Dayton 2" belt grinder, Nugier 50 ton press. At somepoint I want to find a Millright 2/3 size bridgeport mill and upgrade to a mitering bandsaw.

What are you hobby guys doing with surface grinders? Just curious, I've got one that needs a bit of work but I've never actually had a need for it.

I built some 1-2-3's and a sine vise in school...that was the last I used a surface grinder....

A drill press set up with a tapping head can be pretty cool...I've got a ~20" 3ph Powermatic that I keep threatening to wire up to a tiny VFD and do just this

Oh yeah, I've got a cheapie self reversing tapping head... makes repeated tapping way too easy.

I've always been afraid of the imports, but without good reason. I've stuck w Tapmatic even though they're $$$

I showed this in a different thread, but I set up a 10.5 amp variable speed, reversing mag drill on a drill press column to do tapping.

2 British 10" pedestal grinders

RJH ferret tool grinder with diamond cup wheel for carbide.

Pollard 4 spindle gang drill

5 different pillar drills in various states, mostly British 4 or 5 speeds, one Taiwan 3 pulley and a 10 speed back geared Elliott Progress.

I have an old Langelier / Leach sensitive drill press (with local pedigree to Providence, RI), inherited from my Grandfather (RIP), who acquired it when his employer closed up shop in the 80s/90s (jewelry industry). Awaiting restoration...

I also have a very lightly used Jet JMD-18 mill/drill (motor dates to 2007), which I grabbed from my employer during a cleanout. Awaiting me to have time to carve out a workspace in the garage (and to run 220v power out there).

Mike

Tree Journeyman 425 CNC mill with updated servos and controls.

591c5d6cafd782cc50241feeda34dc8d.jpg

Hardinge lathe with Accuslide CNC conversion. In process of installing modern control and servos.

16d9625014e746bf3e21221e9aacbbd1.jpg

5' x 8' import CNC router. Again with Centroid controls.

8cc6c83b276189360a8068071236680f.jpg

Plan is to add a slant bed CNC lathe, a nice older manual toolroom lathe, CNC plasma and a VMC.. as budget and time allow.
