Back home from the Andy Martin Experience. What a great time and super host. First up was a tour of the caboose. very cool being up in the Coppola.
Next up, a ride in the Show Truck.
Hershey didn’t join but Spot did.
Then it was the shop tour....or playground wonder world. I got to learn how to cast.
For some reason Andy wouldn’t let me get close even with my Florida Safety Shoes on.

While getting a tour of the farm in the show truck, Andy bequeathed me with one of his many prized possessions. Maybe if you all visit, you might get a prize too.

After lunch it was time to see the brass castings we’d poured.
Definitely will treasure these. Vicki absolutely loves the Hope cross. Thank you.

Next activity was learning lost foam casting. since Andy provided me with wire, I look forward to making a foam cutter.
We placed the patterns in sand, melted some aluminum and produced these. Round disc will be a tire charger hold down. On the left, part of the bracket for my bandsaw fence and last, a desk ornament.

I was driving the Chevelle. Great to be behind the wheel of a A body muscle car. Andy was in the Model A and a friend of his drove the 37 Chevy.

Thanks for your kind words. there's not much I won't try to fix, my success rate, however, suffers. I did fix a fuel pump on a 216 Chevy the other day.

So glad we got to visit with you and Sharon the week before she died Andy.

When I get around to posting pictures again. Seems I've been too busy for my own good. The Grubhouse is in Yale Oklahoma. Very good place to eat.

The old fort is Bent's Fort. The last English trading post on the Santa Fe Trail. It's in SE Colorado and very nicely restored by the U. S. Park Service.

And I woke to Cheyenne, Wyoming today.

Few things as beautiful as a clear blue sky.

I have to agree. The old stone culvert was a random find. It has been added to but they took pains to leave the original intact. Unusual for a railroad trying to make money.

Notice the Model A was in front of the parade. That was no accident as Shorty was itching to put his foot in the Chevelle.

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, I just can't seem to get up to date. And that trip was 7,500 miles in 19 days. Nonstop fun.

Back to the cabinets. Total there were seven cabinets to build. They went together pretty quickly.

Kitchen sink and drawers:

A coffee bar. The hutch gets shelves and doors but will sit on top of a countertop over the base:

A small wall cabinet which goes over the stove:

And a refrigerator cabinet. It is lying down on the left side. the L will go over the top of the refrigerator. There is a large door on the left side (lying on the floor) which will provide some pantry space in the kitchen.

The other two pieces are simple base units. At least it's progress. Pictures are from May of 2020.

Around the same time we were working on the 32 Chevy coupe. We are my new friend Mike and myself. The 32 was owned by an acquaintance of his. The new six cylinder came to us with no carburetor but a nice four barrel manifold. Since we were using the 1932 rear axle we were discussing how to limit horsepower to protect the axle. We did have the Carter W-1 from 1932 which was working well so we decided to adapt the old carburetor to the new engine. Kind of a restrictor plate by carburetor.

I had a willing helper in the foundry.

Seemed like a good lost foam application. Pattern:

The bottom feeds the two outside ports:

The top has a flange to match the Carter W-1:

It's always good to be heating metal. The pattern (coated in thin drywall mud) is buried in compacted loose sand in the bucket. The pattern has to be tilted so the sand will fill all of the internal cavities. I think of it like the sand has to be able to "drain upward" and fill all spaces. If there is a space where air is trapped and the sand can't flow into it then aluminum will occupy the air space. Ready to go:
