So the wife tells me this morning that the very expensive Dyson vacuum cleaner is broken. She wants to take it to the repair place immediately. I asked her to hold her horses and let me take a look at it. She very reluctantly says okay.

no let me start this by saying I hate working on vacuum cleaners. There's something about them that I just don't want anything to do with but I think this is kind of like taking my Jaguar to the shop it's going to be expensive if I take it to a repair place.

So once I start taking the roller head apart and cleaning out the copious amounts of hair that she's never cleaned out of it in 15 years I realized that the roller mechanism probably is bound up by hair. I also asked the YouTube to get me a video on this and boom we're up and taking things apart.

Now, as I start to take things apart I realize it's a mixture of Philips 0 and torx 6-10. I have the Phillips but I didn't have the torque small enough so I had to shoot out and find something.

I went to Ace and they had this torx set that went from 6 to 15. Perfect for what I need because I have the larger size torx needed some precision size. The tools seem well made rotating handle and clearly marked.

The case is a POS but what are you going to do. Naturally it has nothing to do with Black Friday so there was no discount, $25 and I got it immediately so I could get back to the house and put the Dyson back together.

Oops, how did the dog get in there?

I grabbed these from Amazon. Knipex 9K 00 19 54 US 90° Circlip Snap-Ring Pliers Set in Pouch (4 Piece). I was debating on the Lang Tools [3495] 12 piece set. I have the Knipex 4 piece straight set and found them to be very good, so I went with them.

I hope I don't kick myself for not having a size the Lang set might cover that my straight or angled Knipex sets might be missing??

Keep in mind Ace has a 50% off coupon for BF(11/27 only) on all regular priced stuff.
There are exclusions of course, but this seems to not be one of them.

Been using this guy for a few weeks now. Hands down my favorite light..until the next one. lol

A long 1/4" drive ratchet.

Loving the knurling on the koken extensions. I only have the 3/8" drive set...for now.

Also got this Koken 3/8" ratchet...the backdrag (or lack thereof) on these are insane!

Oetiker hose clamp crimping pliers. Scored these for about $30 on ebay.

Gearwrench ball joint separator

Mueller Kueps wedge

SO 3/8" to 1/4" adapter

Stahlweille quick release 1/4" hex to sq. adapter.

Some squeeze bottles

Wera Holding Function torx bits. Pretty handy little guys

Back probe kit

Last, but not least...Pi 4 kit.

Most of you know ... I am a label freak ... well ... I am also a laminator freak. I can't read the small black on black labelling the manufacturer placed on their case... soooo... I made my own laminated card to include with them... SO I know what I got.

I’m a sucker for a good deal. With that said I’ve recently purchased a load of different tools from Home Depot, Lowe’s, offer up, eBay and craigslist. I don’t have any pics but it has upped my tool arsenal substantially.

I have a same problem. These were all purchased within past 2 months.

Not pictured - Kobalt 80V mower, pole saw, trimmer, blower

I think I need counseling......

Just some small additions this week but all functional.

First is a Snap-On orange hard handle valve core remover just because. The next in this picture is a 19mm socket on a 1/4 quick release for use on my toy hauler leveling Jacks.

IMG_6740.jpg

The next two are also specifically for my camper. A 1 1/16” deep well impact socket for my WD hitch as I only had a shallow that size and a cheapo magnetic level to help setting up my hitch.

Right place to post this? Did no one really care about Icon Tools after initial launch?

Anyways, finally got my hands on this Icon double box end flex Ratcheting Wrench set. Product number WRDBFM-5. Chrome nice, markings nice, comes in tray, has offset collar, 90 tooth... Yada... Yada.

I was however able to drill down and find the actual patent applications for Kabo tools and Illustrations on how these work:
https://patents.google.com/patent/US20200156221A1/en

As many may or (or may not) know, these wrenches made by Kabo tool co are quite LITERALLY(aside from markings) the same as other available tools and can also be found branded as:

Matco
Cornwell
Platinum
Mountain
Carlyle
Older Ez-red

Youtube video if you're interested:

Being that these have better size markings than that of Matco and cornwell's "Tool-Truck" versions and the infamous 20% off puts them at half the price, can you really beat them?

I think this was already speculated based on the design. I was looking at the reversible ratcheting flex heads but ended up going Williams.

Personally I think there is an interest in ICON tools but they are still an unknown when it comes to longevity. That coupled with supply issues and the current price point you don't see people jumping to grab them. As supply issues get sorted and more reviews come in I think we will see more of them out in the wild.

i think the problem with icon is it's kind of new and way less visible.

if people were aware that some tool they wanted was available as an icon rebadge at a significant discount, they'd probably buy it. in the case of the wrench set you posted, it's a no brainer.

knowing's half the battle.

A couple small things from HF and the NAPA store, plus I finally decided to splurge a little and grabbed one of the much raved about Daytona jacks. It was hard not to when it’s marked down to $119 from $148.

And the fact that they pulled the 3/8 flex ratchet a month after releasing it due to jamming and still haven't gotten an improved one figured out over a year later. Gaping hole in the ratchet lineup. Does not inspire confidence.

Totally agreed. I have the Napa Carlyle 3/8 flex that can lock into place and I don’t understand why they wouldn’t use this design since it is the same manufacturer

Yes actually you can.... You can buy the same set with the name "Mountain" on them for $30 less than HF's + 20% off price...
