Nice! I literally just upgraded my larger A this afternoon.

If you have a lathe, I highly recommend adding a ball to the top of the punch like these. My small one 18AA has had one for a long time and always kept reaching for the small one to use even though larger one would be better so I upgraded the larger one.

The problem with the 18A is the diameter is .528" so only real way to get a tight fit hole is to bore it out on the lathe but it only took a minute to do it but I think drilling it out with 1/2" and then dremel the rest could work? I think I just drilled & glued the AA.
Just buy one of those cheap 1.25" plastic threaded handle balls and bore it out. You palm of your hand will thank you, it was a big upgrade and can now apply more accurate force and super comfy.

Your Starrett is awesome and I couldn't live without mine, well I could but I wouldn't be smiling as much. EDIT: Mine are the old style with the knurled threaded on tip.

Enjoy!

Oh wow, great idea on adding the ball!
I also like those older versions. I'll have to keep an eye out for one of them or a set. :)

On the size thing, isn't it how you use it that counts? :willy_nil

Williams BS-05B 1/2" Drive 5in Extension for 3/8" Sockets. Basically a long 1/2" to 3/8" adapter. Tools delivered listed it as impact ready, but it is stamped not for impact use... it should be just find on a relatively low torque impact.

Picked up a few good ones in the past month.

I was keen to try some SK Tuff1 ratchets as I love SK knurled handles, as well as round head ratchets. I ended up getting a few. The 1/2” flex and regular 3/8” are new old stock. The 1/4” and 3/8” flex are used but in good shape. I had a 3/8” long that ended up ejecting itself from its package while being shipped as well. Bummer.

Next up was a real surprise. I have an old snap-on 1/2 flex with a worn out flex pin. I picked up a new pin but it didn’t help as the issue was the handle wore into an oval at the pin. Snap-on said send it in for repair, and sent me this back!

Next up is a nice 1” Stanley fatmax knife with carbide blade and metal body. On sale at princess auto for $10

I’m rebuilding an old Honda lawnmower and needed to check compression. Somehow I made it all these years without buying one, so..

Also needed a puller. This was another princess auto special that serves double duty as a case splitter for my dirt bike with some minor modifications.

And last up, this turned up today! PrimeWeld 225X. I’m brand new to TIG welding and really looking forward to learning.

You hope you have a large size if you don't know what you're doing although this doesn't really apply to the punches or ?

Those would be beautiful if they were a decorative wood. Very vintage craftsmanship vibe. They look good as is too!

Thanks guys for the comments.

Suggest looking for a delta saturn bakelite knob, the old maroon ones are nice or any bakelite. I never think about altering a starrett tool but was happy to do it to this one, especially when you have to mark twenty holes at a time in hard metal.

Wished I had the new version like iSpark's, the tips are a lot easier to replace.

Since this is a new tool thread, I'll post these that I got this week. It's a Felo 820 4mm hex blade set and a Wiha 62 bit 4mm hex microbit set that I combined. All German made except for the ratchet.

I had to take top off to get it out with help. The base was heavy as well. Might practice and weld the holes in the top.

proto usa sae and metric reversible ratcheting combo sets
JSCV-11SA
JSCVM-14SA

they seem nice enough.

i think the tool rolls could be a little better, though.

if you don't fold the excess on a diagonal following the line that the top edges of the wrenches make, the small wrenches can fall right out.

also, the ends of the woven tie straps are just bare cut. they're already fraying.

That's freaking amazing.

Personally, I wouldn't weld those holes closed - I'd bet they'll come in handy at some point.

They did for loading it with an engine host. But I didn't have one to unload it with.

I could see it being used to secure stuff to the table/etc.

In any case - congrats - that thing is badass

Got this for the BIL for Christmas. He likes USA made and already has a bunch of Estwing hammers, but not one of these. It is a beast.

Motoretro, At the back there is a 3rth mounting hole.
The COO was Western Germany, but since a lot of years Leinen vises are made in Italy by FZA. I have a type D , 100mm and a type R 50mm for clockmakers, both with a turning device. Monte has a type F , 150mm ,look for Monte's Garage.
