Heres the premature start of my build thread. Yesterday I pulled the trigger on a new shop to house a couple of my cars. 2 years ago my wife and I moved into town and I had to leave my 30x40 polebarn behind for a 20x24x8 attached garage. The last 2 years I made the best of it. I painted the OSB, threw up some wainscotting, and called it good. I kept my Porsche 914 in it for the summer and my wife squeezed her 330i in for the winter.
DAS Laden Hacken.
So I was looking for a name for my shop. For the title of my build thread of course. Back in 93, a buddy of mine threw the name The Chop Shop out for our combined effort of building low dollar hotrods in an old cinderblock addition to a barn. We were chopping the top on an S10 at the time. It didnt come out great. Lol. I held onto this name for years but now it seems everyone uses it for their garage, barber shop, etc. Not coming up with a new name I liked, I punched it into google translate for a german translation. It's an absolutley terrible translation as it appears to be more of a meat reference...chop....but it kind of sounds good so I'm sticking with it.
Last fall I got ahold of a local builder and asked him to pencil me in. He was backed up to this summer. We had our third meeting yesterday and will start on a new 30 wide (gable front), 24 deep carriage house with 10' ceiling and a 14-6x24 FROG. It's small, but I already had to pull a variance to go that big and that tall. Plus I still have the attached garage that the wife can call her own. My plan is to have 2 cars in here tops. Something I never liked about my 30x40 polebarn was it never really felt like a finished space even though it was sheet rocked, painted and had epoxy floors. This being a smaller shop, I should be able to go further with it.
Heres a shot of my current attached garage ready to bust at the seams.
