I got the tail cut off, got the trailer situated so the rear deck was locked in (broke a hydraulic fitting in the process), finally got the brakes freed up, took some pounding and dragging, then more pounding. Then I decided to bring the tilt deck electric brake trailer up, it has frozen brakes too. At one point they seemed free, but by the time I got to the top of the Hill, it was obvious that at least one set had been dragging on one side. Couldn’t tell in the dark, luckily it isn’t a heavy trailer, so hopefully I didn’t make a mess of the road. :(

I am trying to free things up now, not having much luck, probably wait until next year. ;)

Looking at parts for the axles and it is ridiculously expensive to change the brakes, especially if it needs drums, it looks like it would be cheaper to buy an entire new axle than to buy the drums and brake kit, this makes no sense at all.

At first I figured the price had to be all the brake parts for two axles, but it wasn’t. I am thinking I still want to swap this thing over to air brakes, it would be much cheaper long term.

Tomorrow I am going to put the wheels back on and load a suburban on the trailer for weight, then try and go back and forth on the concrete. I feel like it will be worth the effort, if they don’t free up after that, I will have to try and pull the drums, but I am sure they will be a PITA since something is locked up.

The date in my phone says 13/01/2020

;)

It is chilly this morning, slow start, at least it is supposed to be decent weather today. Saturday is going to be absolute ****. :(

If I can get the brakes freed up on the trailer, that would be nice. Then I can take them apart and see what is going on. Until they are free, I don’t think the drums will be easy to remove, at least not without damaging something.

It took me longer to get to the Hill than I thought, slept in a bit. It looks like the trailer may have only been dragging the front driver side wheels, there are clear tread markings from the rears rolling, I think the rears didn’t lock up until I backed up. :( Anyways, I am messing with the adjusters, not sure it will help, but I am going to try, then the tires are going back on and I will put some weight on there and see if I can free things up.

You can see the tread from a rolling wheel, a bit confusing.

This is where the second set locked up.

This is the mess from the blue hydraulic tail trailer, I am going to back drag it with the snow plow.

Got the rear one freed with the adjuster, the other one was packed with ****, I couldn’t move the adjuster. Got all the **** out, then tried another tool, bent the backing plate, so I decided to try the air hammer, mangled the adjuster a bit, but it loosened up, still nothing, pounded the drum some more, nothing. I pried the backing plate up further, then I could see the shoes and linings were no longer one piece, I got the linings to move a bit, but still stuck, I am currently pulling the entire hub/drum off. At least it is coming off, at this point I will need to remove all the bad parts so it can at least spin freely.

I may have gotten a bit ambitious.

Now the issue is neither of the fire trucks will start, that is a problem, I want to tuck the knuckle boom truck in there. Working on charging things now. Guess I need to keep up with batteries a bit better.

I agree.

Going to work late tonight, I think it will be better to get things done before it snows again.

My only worry is that OMO is not firing up and it seems like It is cranking fast enough now. I am not sure if there is a block heater, even if there is, I don’t have a 20 amp plug to use for the ship to shore outlet. Got to keep plugging away at things.

I am going to have to go to the SG (Salvage Garage) and get some tools and I need a few more extension cords to plug in all these float chargers.

On a good note, I did get the Boston fire truck started, so one is better than none. Leaving OMO with a float charger on, should help significantly. Snow isn't suppose to start until close to 10, so I still have a few hours. ;)

You're making me feel good. I've got almost everything up and running decent. I still need to change the cam cover gasket on the daughter's Cruze, finish the F-150 S'crew, plugging the leaks on the Girlfriend, and making her gooseneck safe. I hope you find a light at the end of the tunnel soon.

Well, it isn’t snowing yet. ;)

Decided not to waste the extra hour of driving to most likely not get everything I need anyways, went to Home Depot. $400 later and I now have extension cords to spare. Getting some food and diesel fuel, then headed back to the Hill.

Victory! OMO is running!

Had to introduce some either, then it still took a bit, but up and running. Super happy! :)

Now to shuffle trailers and trucks until it snows!

Looks like we are twins Kev. ;)

I have shuffled trailers and trucks, have to put one more truck away, then if I can get the Cascadia moved, I can make everything fit, if not something has to go to the bottom of the Hill. Radar says the storm is here, but nothing is hitting the ground, yet.

This storm was a non event if you ask me. A little ice here is all. No wind, no power outages.

It started here, so I decided to put everything away rather than get caught in the middle of it. I squeaked both fire trucks in without moving the Cascadia, very tight.

Of course now it isn’t doing anything, but I think I should go home and take a break before my ride turns into a pumpkin. ;)

I took the tru hitch off, need it on Perk to do some layout of where things are going to be mounted.

Fire trucks are jammed in.

Tru hitch fit, but in front of the truck is a mess and you can’t walk around it yet. Will deal with that tomorrow.

I still haven’t even tested it. Someone offered me $400 for it, but I lost their contact info and they never got back to me. I need to start dismantling that truck, the axles are going to be used for Perk and Buck is supposed to get the engine. I still think OMO is going to be built first, that way I still have Perk operational. I do need to rebuild and swap the 18 speed transmission though, going to get started on that next week.

So far the storm brought a couple inches of snow that is now becoming slush. I am not sure if I am going to plow or not, could make a mess of the dirt underneath, definitely not frozen.

Take a look online... I think you’ll be very surprised how much an ex-Boston pumper Q siren may be worth... But I’d be tempted to keep it around and mount it to something - just to stir up the neighbors (and anyone else within 3 miles)! It’s basically a 6V starter motor and a foot pedal switch... Take care Strouty!

We've got enough here, that the wife and I might go X-country skiing around the mowed trail. When the neighbor dug the hole to bury our puppy yesterday, the frost was only about 1/2" deep.

That ***** X, sorry to hear.

I am about to head to the SG now, going to pick up some tools and supplies that I need at the Hill. Will be a bit of a lazy day compared to yesterday, I will continue on with cleaning up the shop. Starting to get a feel for what I want and where to put it, just a matter of setting up the cabinets. I also need to start cleaning up the Lista that sat outside for way too long, that will offer a lot of space to put things.

Tomorrow will be a road trip, scheduled to pick up 3 things, but looking at 4. I am taking the 550, hopefully the roads clear up a bit, I hate the idea of driving it in the slop.

Monday I need to order some parts for Clark, also want to start working on mirrors for Perk, have a bunch of miscellaneous office stuff to do as well.

Just a bunch of really wet snow over at the SG, I am not going to plow, it will definitely make more of a mess than it would be worth. :(

Picking out all kinds of tools and supplies for the Hill. Will probably make a decent load in the burb.

I never even made it to the Hill, yesterday was a way too overdone it day and I am beat. Tomorrow I am going to pick up a couple things, doesn’t look like the trailer deal is going to pan out, but who knows.

The guy who does the work on my tractor got mad when I told him I used ether to get it started. I told him that next time he could come push it around and make engine noises while I used it. He decided an occasional snort when she was being stubborn wasn't a bad thing.
