A free CAT1100 to the first person that can point out what is different about my truck from the previous pic. There are two differences but I am looking for the difference that is the more permanent of the two. Only one correct answer and I am the final judge. I would prefer that only people that do not have access to a dealer guess.

The wheels look chrome instead of white.

The Snap On plate is missing from the front bumper also.

chad, what advantages are there by having a chassis cab/box truck over the big step vans? Seviceability, comfort handling? I would think you lose some tool volume. Is the box heated and air conditioned?

Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, there is access from the cab to the box. I can also secure the box from the cab if I ever have to leave the truck for service. The cab and chassis drives a LOT better than the traditional step-vans that dealers have to start with. The weight capacity is another advantage. This truck handles the weight of my inventory without a problem. My last tool truck was a 16 ft step van on a Freightliner MT45 chassis. I had that truck overloaded with the weight of my inventory. I had to replace the front springs and right after that the body started cracking. That is when I decided that I needed a new truck. The box is heated and air conditioned. It is better insulated and I can keep the box cooler in the summer because I do not have the radiated heat from the windshield coming into the box area. This truck has an 18ft box. It holds more tools than the standard 16ft step van. If I had my perfect truck, it would be a 22 footer but when you buy used like I did, you take what is available at the time. A new 22ft truck like what I want would cost well over $100k

yeah the step vans are heaters the summer time. I have to have the smaller truck to get around in the motor pools on fort hood. I did have a 20 foot box on a 2 1/2 ton chassis truck when I started. way too big for what I did so we had to downsize. I hate not having the room but I can go anywhere a pick up could go...
My front springs are de-arching and the body mounts have broken a couple of times.
I popped the front rivets in the middle of the window one day. It sounded like a 22 going off. I had to drive through some rough terrain and the body twisted real bad...

My front springs broke! I only had 1 leaf left out of 6. Dont let yours go as long as I did. I was close to having a very bad day if that last leaf would of broke.

What kind of gas mileage do you guys get on these trucks? I would assume that other than inventory fuel is one of your biggest expenses?

with the ethanol now present in the gas my gas mileage went from 6-4mpg in most cases.
so it gets expensive my truck is rated at 15000 and it is right at 15000 and it is all run off of a 5.7 vortec 350. the honda generator will **** about a gallon an hour when I run the ac... luckily I do not have very many long hauls except on monday. I run about 100 miles total... 30 gallons gone with the ac on all day long....
