Need some 200 amp meter base guidance

BIL has an existing meter pole on his property that was used for his barn on his farm. All rusted and nasty and he wants to change it out to a new meter base panel combo. He also just pulled trailer home and wants to run 200amp service from that pole to the trailer. Trailer is about 30 feet from pole.

Looking at putting a Square D Homeline RC816F200C combo. This would give him a few circuits at the pole for his existing barn. We would then use a Homeline HOM2200BB 200 amp breaker to feed his trailer. Is this sound right? Breaker for this is almost 400 bucks from my quick search.

If this is a valid setup, will look.for a more affordable option for him..

What does he have now? just a meter pan? or a meter main combo?

if just a meter pan, then the feed to the barn will need to be upgraded to 4-wire if it is not already.

does the trailer really need 200a?

Most of those meter/main panels have feed through lugs, you don't need another breaker. Don't buy anything until you figure out what is acceptable to your utility.

He sent me a pic earlier. Just an old rusted out combo box. He plans on living in the trailer at some point. It looks like a large trailer.

I was having trouble determining which home depot panels had the feed through lugs on their website. I will go to an electrical supply house on Thursday after getting info from the utility and get one that has the feed through lugs or the kit. All I know so far is that it is ring less meter base.

Thanks for the info.

Does the trailer have gas appliances/heat? If so it is doubtful that it needs anymore then 100A, some of old double wides w/ gas only had 50A service.

It is all electric. He has "big" plans down the road. Outdoor kitchen slash workshop. RV hookup. Neither will ever happen unless poor thing hits the lottery.
