A bunch of US General tool organization stuff from HF, a small space heater from Lowe’s; and then a Carlyle R3890 ratchet from a fellow GJer.

Picked up a new 48” long prybar today. I’ve wanted a straight shank round prybar with a pointed end for a while and picked up a Carlyle today from my local NAPA.

Hi zmotorsports,

What a cool looking prybar!

Is the pointed end used also for suspension work?

I could not look up the prybar on napaonline.com by the part # on the tool.

Can you please provide the official part # on your NAPA receipt?

Thanks,

Dave

Last year I got 1/4” and 3/8” snapon ratchets in regular and flex. I was disappointed with the 3/8” ratchets. They were much shorter than I was expecting.

After reading a post here about longer 3/8” ratchets I decided to go for it and ordered the longer regular head and flex.

Love them! Feel like I righted a wrong.

I wasn't a fan of the size either. I think the length of the regular length confort grip is the perfect size. I wish you could get one in that length without a comfort grip though.

Got some electrical work to do... 2 outlets with USB on my kitchen peninsula... figured it will be an easy job. The MRS wanted to bring our Sparky Guy in... but figured I would save some money... and BUY a tool I don't really need but would be nice to have.

I never thought I would need an air file, but it made quick work taking off the inner lip of a length of black pipe I bought to use as a cheater bar. I'm glad I bought it, $16 on clearance, because they stopped making it, and this was the last one. Will there be an updated product to come to hf soon? I havent tried the diamond wheels yet, that will be tomorrow.

Just inherited this Milwaukee circular saw. Also posted on the Milwaukee tool addiction thread. Looking forward to using it. Metal case is legit.

A friend of mine has a few of those Milwuakee tools in the metal cases. Talk about a heavy duty image. They're 1980s at newest I'd guess, and they've done very well.

He got them from a widowed neighbor when he was in his early 20s, newly married, and needing to fix things. He had helped the husband with things before his death, and the wife afterwards. His wife seemed happy to see the tools go to him.

Certainly not new but recently brought the 1940's bench vice from my home place here, cleaned it up and painted it. Works great.20201226_171448.jpg20210101_185157.jpg

Dewalt nail puller. Was tempted to a (made in Japan Estwing), but want to try the 'nail digger' feature which is supposed to push the wood down around nail heads without causing too much damage to the wood.

Need to rebuild my Snap On ratcheting screwdriver. This should work nicely. IMG_4110.jpgIMG_4111.jpg

Let us know how they work for you. I make custom screwdrivers time to time and the best tool I've found is a set of locking hemostats.

Yes, one end is pointed and the other flat with about a 30-degree angle.

The item # I gave them was an OTC # 7420. From there they crossed it over to the Carlyle part #. I believe the Balkamp # was 8016122 also.

Tekton Pick set, for under $8 I figured I'd check them out. Handles seem nice, we'll see how they hold up. I like the compound angle pick in my SnapOn set but the 45 in this one should work fine. The wrench is a Williams SuperCombo. I got the yellow set up to 1-1/4" but it only goes down to 3/8" which is the smallest they make in the yellow wrenches. I previously got the 5/16" in black, but that's the smallest they make in black so for the 1/4" I had to order chrome, whatever. I'm done with buying tools for the foreseeable future.

Gedore 3090 M extension with a spring loaded retractable magnet. Made in Germany. Supposed to be superior to those magnetic extensions with a fixed magnet as the magnet always has contact with the bolt or nut. Works well with my Astro stubbies and craftsman regular sockets. Does not work with semi deeps and deeps as the retractable magnet mechanism isn’t long enough.

Swapping out an older craftsman box. Scored this for $200 on the way back from Cabelas the other day. Bottom edges are a little beat up but nothing that can’t be made better. I did have to grab a piece if wood and a mallet to straighten the lower brace under the bottom drawer. Now it no longer rubs when opening and closing. I’m happy with it.

How are you guys liking the G8? I've been shopping for a 3" for wetsanding headlights and spot corrections on paint. I saw the G8 got some mixed reviews. Was also looking at the Rupes LHR75E.

My first time trying to keep my car nice. Just ordered one of the G9 package deals. Hope it’s as easy as all the reviews say. I know nothing about really detailing cars. Sure going to learn though.

It looks like it would be super useful in certain situations (gotta have enough space to spin!) but I hate switching between tools (ratchet, spinner, etc.). It sure does look pretty.

May end up getting one just because. Certainly won't hurt anything but the wallet

Picked up some Race Ramps for home use.10" lift

Have you had a chance to use them yet? What are your first impressions? To me, Race Ramps look like the best ramps available. When I worked at PBY during my high school/college years, we had a lot of the plastic Rhino Ramps come back cracked after the first use, like ~50%. It seemed if you used them on even a slightly uneven surface or even hitting the back stop with your tire would break them. I don't know if other plastic ramps are any better, but seeing that turned me off to the whole plastic ramp concept. My father had metal ones that worked great, but were heavy and didn't have a collapsible storage configuration. It seems like the only negative thing I can find about race ramps is that they are a little on the expensive side.

Riggers nose bars from Eastern Rigging Supply- a flare toe 66” and a straight toe 72”. They arrived today. The blue bars are from Eastern Rigging Supply, the black bar is from Northern Tool for comparison.
