WOW!!! Great build!!!

Could you please make a list of things you would have done different (if any)??

List of stuff i would do differently:

1. More space (bigger)
2. Divided shop, portion for car storage/ detailing (clean area) and a side for dirty work.
3. Maybe replace the two 10x8 doors on the front of the shop with an 18' single door. Although, i think the two doors look much better. I would have to really think about this one.
4. add small instant hot water heater for sink (can still be done)
5. 16' ceiling in the lift bay instead of 12' ( I actually wouldn't do this at this shop because it is in front of my home on the property and would look bad)
6. Add shelving to the loft for storage.
7. Yard Barn for lawn **** (see ^1)

That's about all the second thoughts i've had to this point.

Also, is everything working the way you expected? Like the window, doors, heater, and air compressor placement??

I really like my high windows, keeps eyes out and lets a nice breeze in. I made sills big enough to hold box fans for july and august.
For the doors see ^3 above.

The heater has really worked out great. I am super surprised how little propane i went through in one of the colder winters in the last 20 years. I haven't had it re-filled yet but, i am estimating that I used about 75 gallons this winter based on the gauge on the tank.

Air compressor placement has been great. Its been a really good use of hard to use space. I need to get around to running pipping through the shop though. I also ran pvc drain up the the compressor before i poured the floor that i haven't gotten around to hooking up an auto drain to.

I spent a lot of time beating myself up over placement and layout during the build and i think it has really paid off.

I think you've done a great job. I've really enjoyed watching your build and have been subscribed to it since the beginning. It really helped me make some decisions about mine, which is the point, right? So thanks for that!

You're always going to have things to second guess or wish you would've done differently, but that's just part of it. (I've got a ton and I'm not down yet)

Oh - and I like the two doors as opposed to the single 18', just my opinion, enjoy!!

Love the lift!!

Looks great, Purdue! I especially dig the placment of the compressor and heater. No matter what the size of a shop, it's always smart to make the best use of space for those things that require little interaction. Looks like you nailed it so your time planning has paid off.

Great job PurdueSD . I especially like the Sinclair cabinet.
Off-topic question.......what size tires are you running on your Jeep?? The Jeep looks great by the way! Curious 'cause I'm prepairing to do some work on one of my Scouts.

Hey Perdue - After many times reading your build, I just had to say: it's one of my all time faves!!! LOVE the addition of the BP - bet you do too. I beleive it's the same one I have. Although you have even more height to be able to get that Jeep under it - and room to spare!

Love the cabinets you put up too. I can't beleive the prices at HF. Our stuff is still 3-4X more for anything similar.

Cool rides, cool toys and a cool space. I like it so much, I think I'll read though it again...

Congrats!!

Thanks etek! That's a pretty big compliment based on some of the other places on here!

Unfortunately all the BP has gotten to do is hold up a mustang so far... Although ups will be dropping off a clutch kit tomorrow.

What did you mean 3-4 times the price of what you sell? Are you in the cab business now or were you just meaning Canada in general? If so what are you selling?

Hilld
Here's the only loft picture ive got. It was posted back on page 4. Not too much has changed up there. Ive got 7 100W lights now and the ceiling joists/trusses all insulated. Oh ya, and a lot more **** that is still unorganized.

I just meant tools and related shop stuff. I see HF ads in the car magazines and stuff there is SO cheap compared to what we have to spend. That $50 box would be $150 here (plus I've never seen a 20% off coupon up here either!)

You do get what you pay for to some extent. Most HF stuff i steer clear of. But i have had decent success with selective **** so long as i am not afraid modify it to fit my needs. I mean how much can you really expect out of a 2.99 6" C-clamp (although i am yet to break one). Oh and fyi the cabinet was $50 before the 20% coupon! :spit:

Have you started planning that yard barn building yet?

If it is as neat as your shop we all want to see her going up.

Not yet, it will probably be a fall project at the rate things are going. Trying to take care of other neglected stuff around here:thumbup:

I ordered the door with glass but they were out of them at the lumber yard we use. It was going to be a over a week and we didn't have time to wait. So they building the casing and got it to us with a solid door. The door with glass was swapped out after we got it. Nice catch!

Yes, it once again seems that a 14' high ceiling is the magic number. Still a very nice build.

Yeah 14' would work better. 16' more so for stacking two full size (or lifted) trucks. That being said, i would still do the 12' over again. I dont want a warehouse in my yard at home. FWIW 12'6" seems to be a magic number for minimum (finished height) for a lot of the 10K 2 post lifts.

Well its time for an update. Spent some of my free time getting my shop piped for air. This has been a long time coming, i should have gotten around to it sooner but hey, that's life.

I decided to use black iron after giving it a bunch of thought. I went with a 3/4" mainline with 1/2" drop legs. I picked up a couple smc filter regulators of the bay for 13 bucks. This hose reel has been sitting around since my birthday this past spring.

I put a lot of thought into how to keep water out of my air. Notice the T's come vertical out of the main line. Same goes for the T's going to the regulators. Hopefully this will pay dividends for me It sure made putting everything together more of a pain in the you know what. Ive got three different ball valves at the bottom of each drip legs for easy condensate removal. I also used a 3' section of 3/4" hydrualic hose for the flexline. It worked great and was only $10 from the local rural king.

On to the pics...

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but that is one awesome shop. I have made so many notes and additions to my list of things to keep in mind when building, and after-building tricks. That air line is just genius; I would have put at least one true air/water separator/filter shortly after the compressor connection, but using the Ts, creating the uphill runs for the endpoints/regulators, and valving things off like you did is still genius.

Just wanted to give you props man, awesome shop!

I'm very impressed with the way you set up your air lines with water traps. Perfect setup! You can dump the bottom valve at year spot and still have your trap to catch the water that gets though. What a nice shop!

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it!

The biggest update lately (actually ever) is the first addition to our family... We were blessed with a health baby boy back in October. All 10lbs, 4 ounces and 23 inches of him. It really is amazing how your whole life changes in the blink of an eye! We couldn't be happier!

In preparation for the baby coming, that's where the office idea came in. I like to call it "Nursery B". I will get some pictures up this week hopefully.

in other news...

The airlines were one of those projects that i probably over thought, but am glad i did. I have put them to moderate use lately and condensation has been a total non issue. TP tools has a diagram on there website for anybody that is looking for ideas.

Nothing is really up with the Wagoneer, I got the assortment electronic gauges installed to keep tabs on the efi drive-train and have just been driving it occasionally. Its still semi- done, and probably will always be.

I've had a change of heart lately and have gotten back to my hot rod roots. Been working on a 51 chevy pickup basket case. Its going to be my run around town work truck hopefully.

My ceiling is steel but the interior walls are Masonite. It's not loud and doesnt echo. Ive been in shops where the walls and ceiling are both steel and there is definitely a bit of an echo.

Our little guy is 13 months now and walking - I've been thinking about a "quiet room" in my shop for him to be safe in - but now that he's walking - and opening doors, flushing toilets and pushing every button he can reach - I'm thinking it's safer to just leave him in the house with Mom... when she's home... I'm finding that my shop time is severely limited now.

I will be building a garage this summer, what are the dimensions and price of that beauty you built? I don't have time to read through it all if it has been posted. I want to get an idea of what I can afford.
