My dad had both hands operated on for DC when he was in his early 50s. Unfortunately they had to do 3 fingers on one hand and 4 on the other. 25 years later and they have tightened up some but aren’t as bad as when he had the surgeries. Best of luck on the recovery!

It's been 7 years for me now, I can at least look at the pictures of my arm.

Sutures and zip-ties to hold my arm together, then 58 staples.

Were the zip ties from you? Or are those special "medical grade" zip ties?

I'm assuming medical grade as they were there when I woke up from surgery. Flesh eating bacteria in my arm almost took me out, but not to derail from the original topic.

Weeks of soaking this aluminum outboard motor mount with Kroil gained me nothing. Sea salt and aluminum

Decided it was time to drill it out and re-tap it.

Used a center finder, a punch, and a bunch of drill bits, but I’m happy with the hole. Can’t find the right tap, but I’m sure it’ll show up sometime soon.

Moved on to sanding the fiberglass repairs to the Gheenoe.

Finished up blowing the fiberglass dust, aluminum mess, “swept” the driveway, blew leaves off the big boat and dried the dog with my Adams Polishes air cannon. Love this thing! Might be my favorite purchase so far this year

Surprising how little this finger thing has slowed me down. Still been a pain-free ordeal.

Oxidation is the real problem with rust and corrosion. If it gets to the "rapid oxidation" state, it all goes up in smoke anyway

Finally, a day with no family obligations, work to stress over, or friends that stay too long!

Settled into a good rhythm, and got some good work done on the old wooden skiff.

I was a bit hesitant to cut out the rotted transom, not knowing if the whole boat would spring apart. The cedar held it shape, and the template I had made months ago ran true. A couple adjustment cuts on the Hitachi and it slid right into place.

The clamping procedure is a bit cumbersome, it’ll be a pain when I do the final placement.

Up next is filling all the old nail holes with epoxy. Then the hard part- getting the curved top of the transom laid out and looking aesthetically pleasing.

Wanted something a tad different than the usual. I’m pretty happy with it.

Got it all roughed in, and a couple practice runs on the clamp up before I add the epoxy and fasteners.

What are you going to use for fasteners?
Sebo's in Anacortes used to carry a lot of bronze and stainless screws, nails, bolts, etc.
Haven't been there in years, though.

I’m currently reading up on the pros and cons of nails and screws in wooden boats.
Silicon bronze for sure.
Also trying to decide to use caulking type sealant, or not, in setting the transom. It will get the oakum/cotton and seam sealer around the outside perimeter.

Hoping a little homework saves me some heartache down the road.

Upper management was deliberating on product submittal approval.

Finally green-lighted a product that had a long lead time.

With procurement complete, work can recommence.

I remember the first time geometry class made sense to me. It was with the Pythagorean theorem, I use it all the time with towers. Then it was basic trig, sin, cosine, and tangents are all my friends..........
