Well HD doesn't have their Husky magnetic tool-plates I was hoping to put in on the topcover of my HF 5-drawer. The Lowe's Craftsman one doesn't seem to have good reviews.

Anyone have a substitute? I'd really like one that is attached by its own magnets and needs to be reasonably strong. I'm not going to hang heavy things from it, and I don't ever slam my lid, but I'm also not going to have any patience with stuff sliding/falling around...

I found this thread by accident, but I thought I would add my new cart. I am setting up some tools in my shop which I have decided to not move my big Snap-On box into from my garage as it could be a week or longer where I don't go into the shop and it's pretty hidden from my house. The shop is a 2-story 1500 sqft building with the 2nf floor as a walkout to my back yard. The lower half has 2-bays and its own access road. My oldest son had been using it for a couple of years and has bought his own house and Dad can have the shop back~ :dunno:

Anyway, it's your basic blue box with dual side trays and the handle removed. I did add the grommets for the screwdrivers. (Thanks guys!) I will be adding a blue single-drawer service cart to be set up as a MIG welder cart and I just saw that they have the wood top Yukon workbench's in blue now too! I want to add one of those with the larger doors and who knows, maybe a longer set-up with the other style Yukon box with drawers bolted to one long bench.

I will be getting the lower shop set up this summer. The upper floor is my woodshop and small machine shop, but the lower shop could use some dryloc paint on the walls, and the stair's down from the woodshop. It has a good start with an epoxy coated floor and a small 6,000 scissor lift.

I have more questions than answers.
Sorry... Had a minor disaster that needed to be cleared ... I didn't forget the pictures... well ... I forgot to take them ... and yea... post them... I'm gonna be in my shop all day Saturday... Camera is in my bag that will be with me... I promise.

FWIW... I don't use a Phone as a Camera... or a Wrench as a Hammer.

Uhhh, did you forget something. Again.

I have 3 of these things. On one of them the lock will not turn. Did not need the one at home so I Took the lock off of that one. It was made I little different but it still works. Does anyone know of a lock that I can replace it with. I may just get a new box for that Location.

I wound up getting a couple from Lowe's, which aren't ideal - they're too long to have them side-to-side. They set off my OCD a bit, but I'm using them anyway. I like the additional storage they enable, but not loving them TBH. Might revert to one bar and use the other one somewhere else...

Question, are the wheels the same size and hole pattern for the 4 drawers as the 5? I've seen lots of great info on here for caster upgrades for the 5 and hoping I can apply it to the 4 drawer unit.

Good golly miss Molly, took me darn near a week to browse through the photos and commentary! LOVE IT!
Obviously anything new is a Gen 2, recently got my 2nd black 5 drawer.
It's funny reading back several years ago, seeing people paint the colors now available, and making a home brew shelf, adapting the lid to go 90°.
Crazy how times have changed. Heck, even to do some of the MODS that used lumber, oooof, that would cost you today......
So, I've got to say many thanks to you all for sharing such wonderful, amazing, incredible, and well thought out adaptations to your carts, it sure is going to make life simpler for those of us that are late to the party.
I'm not a body guy, and don't pretend to play one on TV either, so I'm only looking to move the larger ½ shelves to the bottom of the stack, and do some riveting.
I have however, dropped the support bracket to the bottom bolt, cutting a small ~1" cross section of the bottom tray, and somewhere around an inch off the top of the bottom box. In that roughly 5" wasted space, looking to adapt a PC power supply for on hand 12vdc, have a ciggy socket or 2, and who knows what else available, as I do plan to power the cart. I considered an old SLA, but I've been trained to charge them upright, and think I'd rather be in the 18Ah range, which won't stand up, at least not out of the way and out of sight. I searched for a nice small retractable cord reel to stuff in there, but any that I've found to be reliable are too large, or new product ones seem to have poor reviews, unless they are out of the budget. So cord wrapped around the handle it shall be, with a quality strain relief mounted somewhere.
I've been also searching for a good means of attaching a few lights, but individual drawer lights are apparently out of the question, so probably going to go with a few strategically placed Oznium Bolt Lights across the top and middle panel, and a non contact (wave your hand) switch, hopefully powered by the cord and an option for connection to a Ryobi One+ 18v, for the occasional odd job not near an outlet.
The appliance touch up, thats genius!
Edge Guard, oh man thats great.
2x2 angle for driver/prybar stands, so clever.
One hole D-Rings, not that I'll be needing to strap'er down, but those are handy for all occasions.
It's going to be a lengthy build, I'm slow, infrequent time allotments, ordering things, and the inevitable double triple quadruple test fits....
But I've gotten started with some cuts, and everybody is taken apart, so I am committed.

Again, thank you to everyone for your shared inspiration!
I'll be sure to return with some final product pics.

oh no, factory lower pan and wheels, I can't seem to find any off road pneumatic tires that last. Just trimmed the pan 1" or so, for the bottom boxes bottom drawer clearance.
Got my edge guard, touch up, and assorted hardware (primarily M8-1.25 nylocks) today, along with a few 1/4 - 20 carriage bolts in 3/4 & 1" just in case. Couldn't find any 2x2x1/8" AL at my Ace, may have to go to Metal Supermarket for the prybar holder adaptations.
I'll let you know how it goes.

9 years into my 5 drawer cart, and I'm thinking I need more space. I think I'm gonna add a 14.5" end box to it on the left side. It's a permanent fixture to the garage really, and doesnt move around at all.

The only problem is my cart is older, and only 19" deep, and I believe the new ones and matching 14.5" box is more like 22" deep, right?

What do you guys think?

Any love for the "1 drawer" cart in this thread? Made a perfect base for my blast cabinet. The drawer now sits under my workbench (to the left in the photo) above a set of drawers from a 4 drawer cart. 72f6285b977a1b1e801b413dbd40165c.jpg

Super pumped to find one of these end boxes at a local store today, such a perfect addition to my small cart. She just lives in the corner, her forever home, so i'm not worried about the balance at all.

I reinforced the lid of my 4-drawer cart and mounted my bench grinder. Then I decided to mount my portaband/Swag table alongside so I fabbed up some brackets and a stainless top. I wired an outlet with one switched gang so I can run the grinder on one and the saw on the other and it has one long extension cord so I can easily roll the whole thing out and cut/grind in the driveway. The drawers are great for holding spare blades, belts, and all my other abrasives. I call it the "fabricart".

That is nice I may be stealing that idea.

Looks like HF has taken a cue from some of the dual stacked setup ideas and is releasing a new 6-drawer cart with black trim. Now, if they would just actually get some of the tool boxes in stock...

I opened up the dark image for their "Coming Soon" listing in the new e-mail they just sent out (no blue, no white):

Neat. I wasn't able to find anything about this on HF's website. Anybody have more details?

Huh, I wonder if they'll beat Sunex's prices on their 6-drawer carts. They were around $700-$800 the last time I looked.

Raptor lined the top of the lid, so much more useful as a work surface now. Also bolted one of those HF magnetic strips to the side, mounts perfectly to the bolt pattern on the side bolts.

Is that a spray-on bed-liner or something else?

Here’s how she stands currently. Since applying bedliner to the top, I added two more of the Harbor Freight magnet strips to the sides, mounted two sets of the corner guards (trimmed to fit around the lower bolts), flipped the trim pieces over so the black sides face out, and also added a magnet to the back which holds the lid when I flip it over to use it as an open-till cart.

I also installed two more swivel casters, but not the blue-wheeled ones that everyone gets from Harbor Freight. If you pull up the available replacement parts for this cart, you can order the locking swivel casters that come with the cart via telephone directly from Harbor Freight for $15.08 each, with free shipping (I found out on the phone that any replacement parts ordered from Harbor Freight ship for free). These are better casters than the ones everyone buys in store, for less money ($15.08 vs $16.99).
