Spring has arrived and as luck would have it, I got to clean the garage and swap out the winter items for spring/summer stuff. While carrying out my assignment, I decided to start getting photos together for your tour of the horse stable. We'll start with the K260 red cap roller so let's have a look inside.

This box houses a fair number of my S-K sets but mostly family heirlooms. When you flip back the lid of the K60, you're greeted by several nice 1950s green S-K boxes. Everything from 1/4 inch up to 1/2 inch for all your needs. Now, one particular set has a clue to its life of service. There is a deep socket laying in the box which is used for clutch adjustments. The old man used to roll around in a 1964 Sport Fury with a 426 Wedge motor. This S-K set was what he used to keep that car prowling the streets. He gave it to me and told me to use it on the old cars that I tinker with.

If you have a sharp eye, you may have noticed some wartime Bonney stuff in an S-K box that is certainly modern in comparison. That stuff belonged to my grandfather. He used it around the house up until his passing.

There are a lot of other neat things in the small side drawers of the K60. We'll get to those in the next installment of your personal tour of the horse stable. We have a long way to go. Try not to get bored.

Great garage! I like seeing all of the S-K tools, of course. Thanks for the tour. Looking forward to more.

The remaining drawers in the K60 top box hold relatively low cost family items that were handed over to me.

The three Craftsman round heads are late 60s patent pending ratchets that belonged to my pop on my mother's side of the family. They work perfectly and I'd like to keep it that way. The 3/8th ratchet was taken from his shirt top pocket the day he died.

My uncle on my mother's side worked for Railway Express Agency up until the mid 1970s. The Husky set you see here is one of the tool sets he used during his employment with that company. He is the type that has to keep everything mint no matter what it is. I don't know how he does it but even today at 80, he is the same way. He gave me this set and told me to take care of it. That means keep it mint so I leave it here in the K60.

The rest of the drawers and side drawers are vacant awaiting new arrivals some day. The K60 also houses rebuild kits for S-K and New Britain era Blackhawk ratchets.

Next up, the K200 roller that sits under the K60. The tools there are not really exciting at all. It's a mix of heirlooms and things that rarely get used.

The K200 has a mix of family stuff along with things I don't use very often. Things like (USA made) hole saws and files.

Some of you axe guys may like the Plumb and other odd ball stuff that I have laying in here.

The very bottom of the K200 stores random toolbox and vise parts. Drawer slides, things like that. All in all, the K260 is mostly a decoration that I love looking at while housing tools that I want to live beyond my lifetime.

What perfect timing! I was just organizing my K260 over the past few days and was going to ask you how you had yours laid out.

Another leg of the Horse tour that does not disappoint.

I have to admit, I’m a bit surprised to not see any drawer liners in there. :D
However, I’m sure there’s some logical reason behind their omission...or maybe not. :D :D :D

Great tour so far. Looking forward to more.

PS. PLease tell me that Milton driveway bell is hooked up!

Sorry to jump with a random question, Thehorse13 and Alienbaby. Can one of you give me the dimension and approximate weight of K200? (trying to figure out if it will fit in the trunk of my Acura if I can get a deal). The best I got so on was $275 for the box which has no key.
However, seeing how nice it looks in Thehourse stable and remembering some pictures of FJ432 blue ones makes me want one!!!

...Never mind - answering my own question about the size after some search:
30" high, 32" long, 16" deep. Weight is 115lb...

lol.

Yes, of course the Milton is hooked up and I enjoy the sounds of pulling into a filling station each time I leave or enter that garage bay. Mrs. Horsey isn't nearly as impressed with the sound as I am.

The liners are not in there because I planned to go back after allowing enough time for the box to air out. Then I waited so long that I used the liners on another box. They will get lined this season though.

I put my K260 in a 2009 Honda Civic and drove home all smiles. You may be able to do the same.

On to some more of the boring stuff here at the stable.

This 1960s Williams box holds a lot of my metric user stuff along with odds and ends like wire wheels, air pressure gauges, drill bits and specialty sockets.

Thank you! That’s great to know. It means it will fit in my TL. Hopefully it works out and I will have a road trip to get it soon (I agreed on the price, just hope the guy would not disappear on me like some of them do...)

It's not the K60 I told you about right? Also, the devil is in the details. You have to separate the K60 from the K200 in order to pull this off. It does work though. Good luck on your adventure.

Cabinet corner will be our next stop. I know that a lot of you like this sort of thing but I will warn you ahead of time, there are not too many interesting things hiding in any of them. They are actually used so they contain items that you would find in all garages. Well, almost. Maybe there is a cool thing or two hiding in one. ;)

Many recognize the venerable Alemite merchandiser bench. Here is a fun fact. I have under $100 dollars in the purchase of all 4 metal items you see here. $50 for the Alemite, $4 for the 50s white wall cabinet, $10 for the small grey cabinet and $20 for the custom oil roller.

Looks great! I would put a sticker or paint on the white cabinet above the bench, just too much white going on, and put the Ford truck grille above the white cabinet and wire the lights...but that’s me, hell I ain’t even got a garage, you can call home and ask my wife....

Yeah, a couple of cool, old time stickers would improve the cabinet. :pimpflash

The headlights in the grill would make awesome work lights right where they are!

The story on the small white cabinet is that it was only supposed to be a temporary thing until I got my hands on the middle section of the Alemite merchandiser. Because of that, I stripped it down, painted everything, preserved the original 50s Sears decal inside, and hung it on the wall. It's been there for a few years now because of my endless search for that center section that was supposed to be a sure thing. The entire story is documented in the Alemite thread below for those who have never read the story.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=362504

The Ford grill is wired for lights. They work! But once the novelty of lighting them wore off, the grill sits as a silent sentinel in the horse stable. I guess I could do a thread on the wiring and where the grill came from.

Yes Please! If you can stand the chore of doing it, a 'how you did it' would be interesting to read.

I well remember your quest to get the top part of that Alemite bench, hopefully one will come your way some day soon.

Here's a peak inside of the grey cabinet. The others have shop materials like oil, weed killer, trans fluid, etc. Nothing vintage of note. I have included the original Sears decal inside the white wall cabinet which dates it to the late 1950s.

If you have a keen eye, you'll be able to spot some small cool stuff. :)

From here on out, the tour will get better and better. We've now arrived at my late 50s Snap-On stack. This box is used as a staging area where I keep odds and ends as I build complete vintage sets. It is also home to my user Snap-On stuff, automotive tools, and other specialty items. If you're really sharp, you'll notice that one of the torque wrenches is made by CDI. For those not in the know, that's a Snap-On brand.

This little Craftsman stack holds a few items that I hold dear and use often. The bottom bin holds what appears to be a very out of place S-K metric set. It's one of the first ones out and it's not a Wayne set. It came from my home town. There are a few 1960s Craftsman tap and die sets tucked on the bottom too. They work better than anything modern that I've come across.

There are some black molded modern Craftsman sets in there too. The small one I bought myself when I was 16 and got my license. I've had it and used it ever since. The large one was given to me by a fellow who is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. His son and I were best friends growing up and still are to this day. There is also a small flying-V set in there from the very early 1960s.

From there we get into a mix of period correct Craftsman, modern Craftsman and some Armstrong stuff that I haven't moved to their forever home in another box yet.

Blackhawk island is a special place. It moves around the garage to help out in whichever job calls for top notch vintage tools.

On top we have the 70RD set that I'm a little more than half way done with, a 100% original and complete 30k Nugget set and my nice little 38CB overflow box. You might remember that it holds all of my odds and ends Blackhawk stuff.

Underneath we have a very early (around 1910) Prentiss 21 vise. You can see how small the Monarch looks next to it. The Plomb pebble 3/4 set also lives on Blackhawk island along with a dynamite box loaded with my grandfather's stone mason tools. Some of them built things in NYC that stand to this day.

There is also my new to me TorkFlash torque wrench. It still puts down perfect torque. Last but not least, who can forget the S4 jack?

It's no secret that I'm a big believer in the early Remline tool boxes. I would tell anyone that they work better than the Snap-ons of the same era. This is my central workhorse in the stable. It houses much of my Plomb pebble stuff, small 1/4 drive sets, and even some cool stuff like a 1/2 inch Firestone (Plomb made) set.

I do have a ratchet addiction. You'll notice that I have everything in the one drawer from a Blackhawk baldie all the way to old school Fleet. I gravitate to the New Britain long handle all the way in the back. It makes life easier when dealing with stubborn things.

My screwdriver drawer is a mix of old and new along with my pliers drawer. I'm not a perfectly organized guy when it comes to my work box. I dig and grab what I need and then pop it back in there after a rag wipe down.

My hammer drawer is the same as most other drawers. A mix of old and new. Vintage Plomb hammers along with Estwing all the way to modern Blue Point ball peen hammers.

I know that many of you can appreciate my pry bar drawer. There are also motorcycle tire irons and such in there. I often need something from this drawer during tear down of old junk.
