Nope, you aren’t crazy. I think it’s a perfect storm of everyone needing money because of the shutdowns last year, while the prices are rising on everything including construction materials.

A quick look at HomeDepot pricing shows French type patio doors in the 1-5K$ range, carry out pricing. Anderson is always going to be on the higher end cost wise. I wouldn't be suprized if the installation cost of an Anderson product didn't run as much as 50% of the product's price.

Is it $10k for the install plus cost of door?

If it includes a nice door then it sounds reasonable. Actually on the low side for Anderson product with install.

Anderson is a reputable company with excellent product and rarely is the lowest cost provider in any market. You could buy a vinyl door from The Home Depot and have Joe's handyman install it for $4k total.

No, you're not crazy.

But, Andersen Renewal is their "full service" line. So, you figure in the removal/disposal of existing, R&R of interior trim and possibly exterior trim, paint, caulk, etc., etc.- Yada, yada, yada...
I can certainly see anything between $5-10k depending on where you're located.

And there's also the actual material used in a particular unit.

Depends on which series Anderson they quoted you. If it's the E-series then i could see that but if it was the 200 series then run!! So at least check the quote for which series door, plus other addons, they quoted you for before comparing other options.

I do a lot of work for a major door and window company in the Chicagoland area and will tell you that that is their average for installing French doors

Of course all of their products are top of the line and their customer service is top notch and they always stand behind their installs

Is this to replace an existing door, or a totally new install? There may be a lot of framing that has to be done to accomodate it.

Anderson and every other manufacturers have French doors from $1000 to over $7000 just for the door as they have 3-7 quality lines from bare bones vinyl to clad outside custom wood inside with 3 versions of glass and then add accessories.

The builder budget on the low side to good, better, best to custom premium is available with every manufacturer.

Doesn't surprise me, we had estimates done for 10 windows last spring, all bids came in at $1800-$2200 per window which is just flippin' obscene to me, especially when all of them looked the same(like sh*t) from the outside.

What is the cost of the door? Is the install a complete install? As in finishing the outside, finishing inside trim. etc? So that all that is left for you to do is paint or stain? If it is an expensive door (as in 3-4 k) and a complete install then the price is somewhat reasonable. If it is not and you will be left with a lot of finishing work then the price is way too high. I used to do home improvements for a living when I was younger. So I do all my own work on my home and it is a budget saver. It is amazing how easy replacing that door is. Watch a few Youtube videos and save yourself lots of $$$.

Hope you're not in a rush. I don't know about Anderson, but many supply chains are totally hosed. My Haas garage doors are taking two months to get to me. A year ago it would have been two weeks...

I'm in no rush at all to fork over 10k....Funny their quote doesn't include series of door..it does include removal and all trim work...I would only have to paint/stain the interior trim...FWIW all inclusive quote they dont/didn't brake down the costs... Again thanks for the reply/s

I would find someone local who does it on the side. I have a "door guy" who use to work in installations. Now he does his own thing. $200 to switch out an interior door (plus cost of door), $100 to adjust a door and the trim. We have a house with a constantly moving foundation. :)

It really depends on the look and location ..... Jeld-Wen makes a unit from $1500 all the way to $5k. The low end is a steel slab with the glass insert and standard lock setup -- the 5k is a purpose built to look like a french door.

Andersen 400's are about 3K .... they are a decent door. It comes as a kit -- have to make sure the rough framing is perfect.

Marvin and Pella will be more.

For 10K plus -- I would order a Lepage and do it myself

We had a 400sf addition done a couple of years ago and in process replaced all windows and slider with French doors. I priced Pella and Anderson. Ended up going with Weathershield Signature Series and even then, the French door was 3k...very nice piece though with all the upgrades.

When I was doing remodel work I picked up a TON of these jobs that the larger contractors would not touch. I got $100 just to install a screen door to an existing exertior door. These days that would be 150. A full set of French doors with trim inside and out would take me about a day and a half 10 to 12 hours working around the homeowners schedule including demo and a trip to haul off the old door. I would price a job like that out from 2 to 3K depending on some details. I would suggest a mid range door for many of my customers. Mine was only about $800 when I bought it and installed 15 years ago and frankly it was as nice as the units costing much more. $1500 to 5K gets you a pretty nice door that will keep you happy for years. Just stay away from the DIY grade stuff at the home centers.

I would say that’s a bit high at least for the mid Atlantic region.Anderson used to be the gold standard for quality and customer service.More recently in my own experience, their customer service is nothing but a absolute joke.

We replaced our front door this year and waited a long time for the door to be installed. Ordered the thing in May, door was projected to be installed in July, custom built door coming from a few provinces away. We had the door installed in December. Other than the wait, pretty painless for us. More than I expected to pay for sure but had no reference to begin with, but it ended around $3k cad for a single door. We love the door so what are you gonna do?

I'm a bit suspicious of window makers/sellers. Our home was built new in 2017 and already these Andersen & Pella peeps are coming around and trying to convince us its time to replace the windows. I'm curious, do they really think I look stupid? I mean sure, I did fall off of the tortellini truck once but it sure as hell wasn't yesterday.

But considering a post popped that up this week on our neighborhood FB page with a lady offering anyone that wanted them her "old" cabinets for free before they went to the dump because she was replacing them with new cabinets but in a different color of stain because she was changing her decor...well, maybe selling folks on this stuff is easy pickins.

In our last home of 19 years, one of the new neighbors had their perfectly fine, maybe 5 year old existing swimming pool FILLED IN when they dug and built a new one in a different location of the back yard because his wife didn't like where the original pool was. :eyecrazy:

I had an "Renewal by Anderson" guy ring my door bell and try to sell me new windows... 3 weeks after I had just had every window in the house replaced with new Anderson 200's. He got a little offended when I asked him "why, do they need to be replaced every 3-4 weeks?"

Whew! I would think that's a tad high. Like $9500 too high, lol. I could see if it was a new door opening; having to engineer cutting into a load-bearing wall, install beams, cut a hole in asbestos siding with remediation, etc... But just to pull some trim and run a saws-all around the old door, crane-kick the old one into the yard, and plop a new one in the hole? Yeah, 10k is nuts in my opinion. No offense to anyone who gets 10k to install a door. Obviously people pay it, lol.

I find that insane, but I guess from hearing all the feedback I'm out of touch with the market. I think I'd find a way to like my existing door for quite some time.))

Where are you finding contractors who will furnish and install a french door for $500?

There are $500 doors that might be installed for $500........they are easy to spot.........might not be for everyones look or budget too high or too low ? Either way they do serve a purpose and fill space in the market place. Might not put a $10k door in $$50k home or cottage ?

Just as there are $25k car and $80k cars. $25k car gets you to work and $500 door will keep out the weather for years.

The trick is not paying $10k for $1000 job both in the door quality and install workmanship.

The roofers, insulation, door/windows and bath remodel ads on TV in my area are almost endless.

7K would be my expectations. What really sticker shocked me was shopping around for a privacy fence.
Could not get an "all inclusive" price. There was a catch or "but, ifs" with every quote.

Best price I could get for about 100' straight shot, shadow box, middle of the road cedar material was 14K.
Planting some 6' arborvitaes was financially wiser with me doing mindless labor work. Don't need a permit for arborvitaes, privacy fence requires a permit & has many stips.

Renewal is expensive no matter how you look at it. It may be worth it, I don't know. They quoted me $10k for 3 windows, out of 10. My cost to buy the same pella windows, $3500 to 4k. I'll replace them myself, or find a contractor!

The renewal by andersen windows and doors are lifetime guaranteed, even if you put a rock through one, they replace it.
The warranty is also transferrable, I think, for 3 years.

Renewal by Anderson is crazy expensive, but that is the complete R&R install price (sans finish coat of paint as stated above). Had them do a large window with sliders on each side a few years ago for $5K. Awesome installer. Even did alum. cladding on outside to match rest of house. Great finish work inside. They then quoted me for 8 windows at $20K. Nope, no way.
I'm happy with the window & install but it WAS expensive. Seems like a VERY quality unit.

I would request a detailed estimate, door? hardware? type of finish? screens? With andersen everything is separate. A 4000 series door is 3500$ plus everything else, I paid almost 4500$, but installed myself, so 10k seems a little high but not by much.

Time to learn how to install a door. 10k you must make 125k+ a year to listen to anyone drooling 10k for a door install.
