For those of us in the north country, did the yearly snow shovel clearance happen already?

When I check local store stock, they are all still normal price and down to a few of each or showing OOS.

Not here that I know of, but I haven't been in Lowes much.

If anyone picked up the 12v Bosch impact on sale, now the drill kit is on clearance too.

Another good deal. BTW, There is a combo kit with this drill and the other impact driver with 2 batts for $99 in Lowes, and elsewhere. Your getting 2 less batts, but still a good deal.

The Bosch 12V CLPK22 kit is $100 at both Lowes and Amazon.
It's a PS31 drill + PS41 impact driver + 2 batteries + charger + soft case.
I took one home - I needed a decent compact drill, and the package was too hard to resist at that price.

It hasn’t been officially announced but Lowe’s is bringing Wiha in store. I was hoping to get the terminator bits in store but it looks like the skus are online now.

Unfortunately it is a proprietary bet that one can reasonably assume is cheaper quality for the big box location.

I didn't go back to check it out BUT I think it is pretty official. I saw it in their flyer at the register two nights ago when I was cashing out....

How does Wiha stack up against other name brands (quality/price)?

Mike
as with everything, depends on the item.

Most likely what's coming to the stores is going to be 1" & 2" driver bits likely replacing what's being clearanced out from Bosch. All the ones near me are at least mostly finished their electrical reset, there is enough Ideal & Knipex that we won't likely see Wiha drivers there. The 5 (or 6) piece 1000v driver set was a staple at Sears for years, German made drivers for $32 or so.

That said there are 3 pages worth of stuff at lowes.com now and I bet more will be added just not sure how much more.

My suggestions, screwdrivers, regular and precision. I don't love their multi bit drivers, and I have several. Depending which model, they are made in a bunch of countries; Germany, Poland, Czech, & USA for the ones I own.

Most of their sockets/wrenches (which I doubt will make it to the stores) are rebranded, made in Taiwan or Vietnam. For the money likely you can find better, but I haven't seen any in person.

A lot of the sets include at least one pliers; they are also made in Germany, but I haven't got my hands on any as I have got some good deals and/or like designs better from NWS, Knipex, Klein & Channellock. They are well reviewed, but they have German tool price tags. That said if a set you like has pliers in it, I'm sure they are good just don't have any to prove it.

A lot of misc stuff like the driver mag/demag, and this set nut setters are really great, and i have two of these (got one free in a bigger kit) that are really handy.

I do prefer the older, less fat precision driver handles. The fat end is the free spinning part, there have been once or twice having a wider end to spin was nice but overall didn't add enough value to make me like them better than the old ones.

Thanks cheechi. I haven't seen Wiha around here yet, but I did see shelves full of Bosch 50x-life (vs 10x) bits, so I'd assumed that's why they were clearing out all of the Bosch 10x.

That's all i have seen so far in one store, and another has yet to bring in the new 50x life ones. Totally a guess that Bosch is losing real estate to bring in Wiha, since they doubled down on new Crescent skus, and the Craftsman stuff that went on clearance didn't make that Craftsman section smaller.

In multiple stores near me, the very prominent Bosch display has been moved or consolidated into multi-brand display now. So it was an educated guess but I hope I'm wrong and Wiha is replacing something lesser instead.

My store just got it’s first Wiha in. The bit display has about 75% bosch impact (new 50x) and the bottom two rows are some basic wiha selections. So it does look like they will be sharing space. Bummer they aren’t kicking some more sub par equipment for these two quality brands.

The wiha are called terminator blue series. Made in Vietnam. They seem average quality. I’m gonna give them a try.

BTW, those of you who know about the escalation policy for Lowe's (assuming that there is one)...

Those stainless cabinets are 60% off. Lowe's site shows them as sold out, but there are a few around at different stores.

At what point do they drop further (and how much)?

Thanks.

Mike

I didn't see a response to this (explaining the discount escalation policy for clearance items), but I did see one large box had been showing in inventory on BS all month. It dropped from 60% to 80% off yesterday, and is now gone (according to BS).

As an aside, I saw one of these stainless sets (top and bottom) listed for $1000 in NJ (CL or FBMP). Yes, the original prices were over $1300, but I wonder if anyone would really pay $1k for these if not buying it at the store?

My local Lowes had Irwin forstner bits on clearance as well as DeWalt titanium drill bits 1/2 off. Im not sure what discount the Irwins had as they only had sale price on them not the original. I picked up a few small sizes of DeWalt bits and went on my way. No pictures as I didnt have my phone

We're the Forstner sets on sale, or just the individual bits?

...and on that note, I ran out to the Westborough, MA store at lunch today...

The Bosch impact bits were AWOL. I asked the guy in the Tool department, he laughed at me and said "There's a website called Brickseek, as soon as they posted those items, some guys came in here and wiped them out!" Oddly, the Lowe's site seemed to indicate that there were a few of each in stock, and I tried to show that to him (I pretended not to know about BS, LOL). He just said, "Good luck! I've been looking for those for the past three days..."

On the bright side, I found two of the 1296679 Kobalt stainless top cabinets in Aisle 15, top stock...

Mike

Really? I’ve been finding the Bosch bits at just about every local Lowe’s store. Which ones were you looking for?

So, following up on this...

Went back to that store during lunch today, needed an appliance light bulb, and of course ran through the Clearance and Tools sections.

After the posturing of that employee a few weeks ago, TODAY, I found two end caps with Bosch items, including bits on clearance.

I found one (last?) Bosch "Custom" (empty) case in a clearance bin on the other end of the store. BS thinks there are 2 more in the store. Item 887403 $2.39 (60% off).

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Bosch-Custom-Case-4-1-in-Blue-Plastic-Tool-Box/1000248163

I also found these Bosch sets at 80% off (per the Lowe's and BS sites). There was no price on them or the shelf, and they rang up at full price. I showed the cashier the price on the Lowe's site, and while the model number matched, the item number was scanning differently, so we had to have a manager help. She said "That doesn't seem right" when she saw the clearance price on my phone (with that store selected). I calmly said that I'd seen that price at other stores that had sold out, and she approved the price change. BS hasn't updated the inventory (still shows 4 available), so who knows if there are more hiding in the store? Item 884134, $3.99 (80% off).

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Bosch-Custom-Case-24-Piece-1-4-in-Impact-Driver-Bit-Set/1000318779

I also grabbed a Kobalt 16-inch bag to keep all of these bits. "New lower price" not Clearance, Item 2416983, $19.98 (20% off).

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-16-in-Cargo-Bag/1003095424

And a small Craftsman set of drill bits to replace some that have broken in a bigger kit that I've had forever. Possibly junk, but titanium. Item 1061458, $19.98 (20% off).

https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-21-Piece-Titanium-Twist-Drill-Bit-Set/1000593781

The Irwin Forstner bits were all full price. I'll buy a set if they ever go on clearance.

They did have a bunch of (individual) Irwin long auger bits in the Clearance section. See (bad) pic below.

I ran out of time to look for any more of the stainless cabinets...

I hate that my pic of the auger bits is so fuzzy, but I can see several different price "themes" (looking at the pennies part of the prices):

$**.48
$**.98
$**.99

Does Lowe's use a pattern here (similar to HD), where the pennies are a clue to the next potential price drop?

Went back to the Westborough store this afternoon, the Irwin auger bits were still there. I took some better pics, and looked prices up online (Lowe's and BS).

I didn't check them all, but of the ones that I did look up, all of the long ones were still full price (even though they're in the Clearance section).

The first pic below shows three of the shorter bits, all Irwin "Ship Auger Bits." I only bought the 3/8 size, as it was $8.99 (50% off), the other two were full price.

I probably should have asked a manager to take the others for the same discount. Ran into something similar at the Milford store a few months ago with an RV water hose (on a clearance table, rang up full price).

Didn't find any more of the clearance Bosch bit cases, but I did spy one of those stainless top cabinets (currently 80% off according to BS).

I found the yellow ones on the floor at a store in MA a few months ago. On the floor, under the lowest shelf, out of place, but in the electrical aisle.

BS doesn't show any orange ones near me.

Some stores still have these orange cords for 80% off, but you probably have to accidentally come across the cardboard display in some obscure location.

The actual aisle for extension cords has a yellow version at full price.

Utilitech Pro 100ft 12/3 SJTW Hi-Vis Orange Outdoor Extension Cord w/Power Light Indicator $17.80 (YMMV)

Brickseek

Last night looked on BS and two stores in my area had these on clearance for $17.80. This morning the price changed in BS to $89. Never seen that before.

How low did the price come down to with the yellow version?

I'm also confused about how stores in the same county can be either 80% off or 0% off, even when they all have under a dozen units remaining. :dunno:

Sorry, it was the ORANGE ones that I'd found (the yellow on the box had me thinking that was the color of the wire). They were $17.80.

Same here.
Had 6 at $17.80 last night, 6 at $89 this morning.
Glad I checked before going

AND, every other store w/in 50 miles was OOS.
Now. they all have them: at $89 of course!

Wonder if SKU/UPC switched to "new" cords?

Funny thing is that $89 is the wrong price for this cord. The store I went to had a display that said special value of $59. It took a while to find the display as it was not on the same aisle with the other extension cords.

I hope they keep a defibrillator at each register for the pending heart attack after seeing the total price :scared:
