Ok GJ, Does anybody know what this tool/device is used for? What is it? Or is GJ gonna get stumped on this?

I picked this up yesterday along some other interesting tooling. Very high end Starrett Webber 6" long and angle gage blocks, a bunch new old stock Smiths aircraft acetylene welding handles & tips, watchmakers Bergeon staking set and KDK tool holders. It was in a large box of other random stuff that also had a Stevens "De-RE-LR" base stand for solid wire copper windings that you normally see for old school electronics. Haven't been able to find anything similar online.

Can't tell if this is shop made or a made product for market? No luck with the numbers stamped in the base. It has a Waters torque watch gauge, measuring very light ounces per inch with a keyless chuck holding a wire silver brazed onto a re0utilized pin held by the chuck, at the bottom of the wire looks like a watch spring? The small black vise on the base looks like its for a watch movements? Waters Co. only makes the spring dial tester that you see on top and was incorporated into this device. The overall height is 9".

Any clue? Thanks

Thanks Steaks,

I'll check the links out, I use to be pretty active on watch forums but its been a while and a lot of them have changed.
Tried posting this on GJ to see if members can pull one out of the hat as this isn't the typical tool seen here.

Not cool on the recycling thing, I think Rosy wouldn't dig that too much. Have known her since she's been born and lives on the property and regularly chills like this when I'm outside.

Dang, first time I’ve ever seen a squirrel resting. All I’ve ever seen are poised to run in front of your car, or up a tree to torment a dog. Quite cool that he likes you.

I have one or two of those watch vises. I’ve used them to grip bodies, never just the movement, cuz I’m a coward.

I would guess to test the strength of the mainspring, but that’s simply a guess.

The ex-wife raised a few squirrels. The babies fell out of an awning when it was opened. One of them hung around for a few years.

Around here, we have a buddy who was a new neighborhood addition late last summer, tiny little thing. We had a late hard freeze last spring and none of the fruit trees set fruit. The birds and squirrels didn't have any winter forage. I will not confirm nor deny helping him with meals. I will say that he now leaves the trash alone on trash day...

What I'm so puzzled about this thing is the height of the spring gauge being so far above the movement holder. More and more I think this is watch movements but cant understand the needed height. I am pretty sure the vise is a Swiss made (unusual version) reversible watch movement holder made by A-F Switzerland; Grobet use to sell one as well.

Still have no clue what this is thing is for?

That is a damn fine squirrel you have there.

I raised 5 red squirrels last year, they were 3-5 days old when I found them, tiny little pinkies. Had to wake up every 4 hours to feed them for more than a month. They all survived and grew into, well, you might know how red squirrels are. They are compelled to scold no matter what, it's uncontrollable like tourettes. Prone to unreasonable outburts of energy. They were still very cool little friends. They all dispersed into the forest during summer, all males and too territorial. I was disappointed. Cool to see that your Rosy is staying close to home. I've raised eastern gray's and black fox squirrel but never a traditional fox. Very cool that she still stays around.

No idea on the tool but I suspect that the squirrel will point the way to the answer.

The heck with that!

No way I'd be waking up like that for a squirrel. I'd barely consider it for a baby.

The torque watch by itself is worth some serious bucks...

Yes it is and originally what caught my eye. held in place by a couple of set screws.

Amazing how smooth it is when turning it and then feeling the modulation in the return spring.

Looks kinda like something that could be used (somehow) in the torque pendulum of my Atmos clock.

Interesting, maybe? I thought it may have been for a larger clock movement as well but the size of the vise is it so small and torque meter is for very light loads.

You have a very Cool clock!

My good friend Don, a member here, emailed me a 'heads-up' pointing to this thread. I'm a member of TZ-UK a watch forum in (obviously) the UK and I've asked for the input of the members there.

Let's see what happens

Thank you to Don and to you Mennor, Cheers!

The help and effort is much appreciated and looking forward to hearing if they come up with anything? Have a good Sunday

Any takers on guessing what it is?

I removed the torque gauge. The big ring that holds it (see pic in 1st post) is made out of bronze and rotates on the outer steel ring that the three columns are connected to.

Here it is, the torque gauge, it has a Jacobs three jaw rubber collet (0-1/4") in the chuck.
