Good morning GJ,

I am attempting to plan out the next few estate sales I am hoping to hit. I have “bad” pictures of two different vises at sales and I am hoping someone here can possibly identify either of these vises so that I can decide if they are worth taking off from work to try to grab them.

The first, it is only a front view but I am hoping that the spindle face, the end balls on the handle, and/or the horizontal emboss on the casting can help identify the vise. I realize there is not a lot to go on but it’s the only picture for this sale.
View media item 111421
The second is an even worse of a picture of a side view of a vise that appears to be somewhat disassembled. I can not make out a spindle and it looks like there is a handle lay on the bench to the left of the vise. One thing I can make out is that the vise body and/or anvil looks to come up fairly high to rear jaw.
View media item 111422
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, I welcome the recommendations.

Second one like like an incomplete pos.

First one may be an import. Maybe. If I had to guess I bet it says Allied. Pass.

Va, and TxLonghorn, Thanks! I do like the Pattern maker vises.. I just have not found a PARKER one yet.. LOL.
Parkers are my passion, Reed's next favorite. BUT any good quality American made vise is interesting and collectible.

Today my first 7" vise joined the collection. A Yost 107. Around 200#. I'm still cleaning it up.

PierceA

Definitely none of my business, 20 watchers, I had no idea Parker was a player in the under bench vise niche.

Posted this in the Craftsman 0519x thread a little while back but thought I'd throw it up over here too. First pic is as found.

Got a nice deal on this generally unabused, original paint 05196 and clean up was quick, easy, and fun. Scrubbed everything with Grez-off after disassembly, removed and wirebrushed the jaw inserts, hand filed the "anvil" area and jaw ends flat, very lightly brushed the slide and handle, and a little more thorough on the spindle hub and swivel lock. Brushed the rest of the hardware fully clean. Reassembled with Mobil-1 red, adjusted backlash to near 0, set the handle tension, and gave everything two coats of paste wax and a light wipe with Ballistol.

Had planned on making this a user but I've since found a few vises that are probably more appropriate on a few accounts. Including this sweet little Reed that just followed me home. Why do all kinds of vises keep doing that? :D

Hello gentlemen, might anyone recognize my vise here? There are no other marks than "made in u.s.a" and numbers to each piece like v30, v28 on the base and v31a on the vise anvil. The jaws are 3.5 inches. Any help identifying would be appreciated. Thanks

:):):)This past Tuesday was a fun day. Got to take a motorcycle trip 4 hours (both ways), all on state highways & county roads, to buy a 6" FPU Turtleback vise. Even found the date code (Jan '1974). I've been looking for one that was not broken and not prohibitively expensive for 7 years. It was worth the wait. I had to disassemble it to distribute the weight and so it would fit in my saddle boxes. Looking forward to restoring it.

skot: It's a Milwaukee Tools vise. Mine does not say Made in USA but they're obviously the same. It's a deco-looking light duty vise.

Mark: sounds like a fun trip!! nice find and I wish I still had my Leinen 6 inch vice that works just like the Bisons do. i'm still looking for a big 6 inch Bison so congrats on finding yours without some damage.

I know you like to paint your vises and wondering if you like original or maybe a John Deere green/yellow or post up pics on the Vise Repair 101 thread and show us how you spiffed it up cause not a lot of these types of vices (vises) on that thread.

Hi Drives:
Regarding painting my 150mm FPU vise, I'll either go with Machine Gray (one of the original colors) or Rustoleum Verde Green (close to what Bison-Bial uses for their modern vises. See pictures.
I don't plan on making this a themed vise. But here's a picture of a John Deere themed Rapid vise I did for a customer.

Definitely Milwaukee. The flat spot on the side was used for decals. I've seen them labeled as Milwaukee, Powr-Kraft, and Wizard.

Mark,
Does that mean you have a hidden stash of Rustoleum Verde Green paint? Asking for a friend!

You scared me. I've heard rumors for a few years that Rustoleum Hammered Verde Green was as scarce as common sense. Still can get plenty in SW Indiana.

Not Drives but I sure wish I could find some online or in a brick & mortar establishment but none to be had unless you're willing to buy in bulk 6 or 12 packs. Even then I think at best it's $12/can. I called Rustoleum a few months back because those big box home improvement places show Verde Green and Light Blue as "no longer carry" them. Rustoleum just said they are temporarily out of stock.

Signed,
Tex

I picked up an Emmert in ok shape missing the base.
At $200 I thought it was a fair deal. The base will
be hard to come by

The swivel locks I got from autopts arrived to replace the mismatched set my Wilton 835 came with, so I thought I would show it off. The one original lock is next to it.

So this took almost 2 moths of patience but I brought this one home Sunday evening - a Type E 78-001 in pristine condition - if used at all VERY lightly! It looks like it just was pulled from he box: I found 2 TINY fly specs of paint that popped off with a fingernail... other than that a little dust:

Thank you so much! I have not mastered finding other things on GJ.

NP, I try to bookmark the threads I think have good information.

Thank you should be for someone else on GJ who posted this internet search phrase.

type this into your search engine. where it says "your topic" put what you are looking for on Gj. Try varying words until you get what you want.

site:garagejournal.com your topic

example: site:garagejournal.com vise parts swap

Attached is a screen shot of the result found.

Unless you need a swivel base, I’d go for the Reed 103.
If you want a swivel base Reed you could look for a model 203.

For a user, I like combination vises. If your wallet is fat, and you want a 3 1/2 inch wide model, check out the Wilton C Zero.

But for a rock solid little vise without spending a whole lot, you can’t go wrong with a Reed.

My little Wilton 645 that I found on FB marketplace last weekend. I originally planned to repaint, but now that I got the rust off and the original paint is still mostly there, I think I’m going to leave it as is...

Some very nice Emmerts being posted. Those are great pick ups, guys.

Radar - that bullet looks great with the metal oil. Autopts always comes through.

Fierljeppen - That $3k price on the Odin was surprising. Was thinking it might go to $1k. I guess a couple (or more) guys really wanted it.
