Wow, I really love this thread! Not only do we get to learn from guys running around the USA and finding stuff, we also get to see items from overseas that never make it over here!

I don't get to as many sales as I would like but I hit a local one... Not the "big one" recommended by BMW but I felt pretty accomplished for about 20 minutes worth of picking! Proto mfd and proto la sockets, Craftsman amber handle hack saw! Craftsman metric sockets, screw starter, fairmount body hammer and p&c wrench and various sockets. My favorite item by far is the amber handle hack saw for sure. I have never found one in the wild. I have't cleaned up anything yet. Not to bad for $10... I didn't go to the big one because another member dropped by my house and brought over some proto la tool boards I have been after him to get back after I sold them to him years ago

Up on the board again with a stop at my favorite pawn shop. Seen the Proto and Plomb speciality caulkers that are so dang hard to find and would look good on the Plomb wall. The guy behind the counter said he got some totes of snap on and Mac stuff in and wondered if I was interested in anything. I asked how much for all of it. $350 plus tax and now I have some sorting to do. I would say about 70% is Snap On the rest is MAC and Proto. About 150lbs!IMG_20210418_175750092.jpegIMG_20210418_170024906.jpgIMG_20210418_170012013.jpeg

Looking for a Round Beam Plomb 1068 Double Box End Wrench

Looks like you’re doing to be busy for a while. Quite a haul!

Gee, I’ve never got anything free at a pawnshop. What’s the story?

One word: Snap-on

I found a half-dozen of them hiding in the dusty and forgotten depths of the multiple gallon+ sized buckets I was sorting through. I set them aside and handed 'em to the proprietor with whom I've been working on developing a bit of a rapport. An important relationship to develop in my opinion, since he always has a handful of Plvmb and Proto items when I stop in.

He was happy. I was happy. The world was happy. My growing Plvmb collection was happy.

Best regards,
John

Had the opportunity to pick a small collection of old hand planes and other various tools yesterday. The seller is a general contractor in his 70s who just picked these tools up as he came across them over his career. Decided he wants to downsize a bit. Lucky me. :0) I found some really nice keepers. Keen Kutter K7 jointer plane, Stanley 45 combo plane, Stanley No 0 & No 104 Sweetheart era cherry wood levels, 5 boxes of Stanley combo plane cutters plus one empty box, an early Stanley No 79 side rabbet plane (minus the fence), Stanley No 5-½ plane (Type 11, later lever cap), Stanley Bedrock 605-½ (Type 3), early Stanley No 71 router plane (Type 4), Stanley No 93 1" rabbet plane, Sargent 8" bevel gauge w/ Pat Oct 29 07, Bedrock 603 (Type 6), Bailey No 3 (Type 9), Bailey No 4 (Type 9), Miller Falls No 07B skew plane, Stanley No 64 spokeshave and an unknown model Bailey spokeshave (with a 1858 date?). Both spokeshaves have Sweetheart irons. In the box are parts for the combo plane plus a Stanley Rule & Level Co handbook for their combination planes (1975 reprint), box of Stanley 1-5/8" block plane irons a spare 1-3/8" block plane iron. The seller threw in free a brass No 1 Odd Jobs tool (think it's a remake, Garrett Wade?) and the Miller Falls No 07 skew plane. Not a bad day.

Over the past few weeks I have added 4 Proto tool boards to my collection! 3 Proto LA and 1 Proto MFD era! I cant begin to tell you how stoked I am to get them!

Proto LA-Body hammer board- member C1504 tipped me off in the Proto tools thread that he knew of some local boards for sale. I saw that my friend , the host, BMWRDO would be in the vicinity and since he is a proto head like me, I mentioned the boards to him. He picked up a drive tools board for himself and got this hammer and dolly board for me...That was very nice of him to transport it for me and I am grateful to him as well as C1504:rocker:

The 3 other boards- 2 Proto LA screw driver boards and uncommon MFD era metric board and metric doe wrenches. I bought these boards 3 years ago off seattle craigslist... I didn't have the wall space so I immediately sold them for the same amount I paid to Rileysan... I have regretted it ever since because I moved not long after the sale to a house with the wall space... Finally after working on him for years, he sold them back to me for the same amount I sold them to him for. I now have them up on the wall and am enjoying walking into my garage. I smile every time I see them. I do need to fill them up so if anyone has any proto LA screw drivers, MFD era metric tools or any body tools, let me know!

I did not have the weekend some of you had, but I hit an interesting estate sale. One of the original 1800s farm houses in DC. Unfortunately the last few decades had been a hoarding situation and the house will be torn down.

I found a cabinet with drawers in the basement - Only had 1 drawer when I found it and I found enough parts to put together 3 more. I did a basic cleanup, and cut away some of the rotten parts and it has a nice look. Also found 3 drafting lights in the attic. A little Stillson patent wrench in the back yard with a LOT of rust - it cleaned up surprisingly well, but I hit it hard with a wire brush.

And lastly - what is this small, ornate handled tool with a triangular blade that goes to a VERY sharp point. I think I may have another of these somewhere, but I have no idea what it would be used for. thoughts?

You don't think it's an awl? By the way, nice pickups! That's a real nice looking cabinet/set of drawers. Looks like yellow pine to me. Let us see it after you're done.

Since the edges are not sharp, my guess is it is a burnisher.

Nice tool, dude.:thumbup::beer::lol_hitti

I was walking the dogs and stopped at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. I don't need another jack, but this one looked old-school. It worked good and the price was $20, so I bought it. I have since bought and installed a seal kit (ram seal was leaking), and now it runs smooth and dry.

I think you may be right, I see some similar burnishers. The point is incredibly sharp (ask me how I know) and it must be good steel to have held that point without bending or breaking all of these years. (FYI - no markings on it at all)

The cabinet is very crude. The drawers are flush one one end and stick out on the other. It is practically folk art. I don't know how far I will take it. I have a guy who could make drawers that you could not tell they were replacements, but I may just leave a few "shelves"

here are some pictures from when I had him do a drawer for an old Clark's spool cabinet. He is a wood purist and never stains his work, but he allowed me to stain and age it because it was a replacement. The bright gold part is also my fault - I couldn't figure out how to age it well. Lets just say i learned a lot in the process.

I should add that the spool cabinet was a $15 yard sale find because it was missing a drawer and had spent many years in a garage. It was in rough shape when I took it on. I left it a bit rough on purpose. I didn't want to lose the age.
