This morning I headed over to the small, semi-local monthly swap meet that Provincial has so much luck at. And while I had the feeling that I was shifting through his dross, I did manage to find a few things

A 1917 book on woodworking, Bog, SK, Wizard, and Challenger sockets, a Dunlap set of pliers, along with a Craftsman 1/4 flex (with a P&C 100 socket attached), and a P&C mini plumbing calker. All that for $6.

Pick up this old mower yesterday
Old guy claimed it was White Auto riding mower
Kinda looks like a real early Mowette Mustang

Asking here rather than Vintage Tools forum just because you guys know just about everything...I searched but don't see a Disston Tools thread like Show Your Disston stuff. What the heck? Is it not broad enough or maybe just no interest?

Nice haul! A couple of the tools pictured with the Duro box may be original to it. Here is a complete wartime set. The sockets are all D-I. The 7/16” socket is actually 1/2” drive despite the typo in the NAF catalog.

-Don

Thanks! I think the t handle and the extension are the right era. I was super thrilled to find the box because I have been working on a D-I set but didn’t have anything to put it in. I will post everything in the indestro thread when I get the box cleaned up

Most brands that don't have a dedicated thread isn't lack of interest, but too many 'look what I found' threads and it's a specific tool. It gets buried and several months later someone finds a different tool and starts another thread. After a few years, there are several threads, same brand, with very specific tools, all 1 page long. I've been using LesserSon's wood saw resto thread, but if someone starts a Disston thread, I bet it would get alot of traffic fast and become a major thread I could put in the next sticky.

Nice hauls everyone, and C1504, you should be able to pick up an old, leather handled doner box to replace the missing handle, which should look like this:

I believe it is 6" on center for the handle but may not remember correctly.

I have been looking for a donor for a snap on box I picked up a couple months ago. I guess I have to look for two now!

Someone, (Private Lugnutz?) suggested using vintage, period correct, suite case handles as donors.

I see old briefcases and suite cases at the thrift all the time.

That’s an awesome idea. I should have thought of that

About 3 weeks ago I had a job on my old '88 C1500 that I thought might require a right angle drill so I tried to pick up a cheapie Chicago Electric one at HF. The HF website said they had them on clearance for $22.95 but naturally, no stores near me had any. Our son was in San Diego that weekend so I called around to a bunch of stores down there with no luck either. So I grudgingly bought the damn $49.99 Bauer model that isn't even a true right angle drill. To potentially drill one dang hole. I didn't end up needing it as the leaking coolant quick connect fitting miraculously didn't break off in the intake manifold like virtually all of those old buggers do. I ended up tossing the Bauer in the bottom drawer of the roller and grumbled to my wife that if I ever live long enough to really NEED a right angle drill again, they'll probably cost $100 dollars by then.

Then last Saturday, me and dagowife were all vaccine'ed up so we went to our first post-pandemic yard sale in over a year. It was a nice community sale in a retirement area. At one of the last stops we made, there was one of the old Chicago Electric true right angle drills, laying on a table. The guy told me he used it to drill one hole. In wood. I scored it for $5! Which is about what the sales tax cost me on the new Bauer. Took that new Bauer back later that same day.:bounce:

This weekend I picked up this Mossberg socket set #14 at a local auction. Most of the pieces are there. Almost all the sockets are there only missing one of the spark plug sockets. I found a catalog page from a 1930 catalog that seems to be the set, does anyone know if there is a time frame that theses were sold?
The auction pic was kinda vague, and probably why it only cost me $11.00
Thanks

You are correct, very late for them, just before they became APCO-Mossberg. I answered you in more detail on the Mossberg thread.

I made an early entry to the local flea market, and found some worthwhile items. This one had the most vendors and the most customers of any of these since the Plague hit. This despite the State declaring this a critical COVID area and shutting down most activities. :headscrat

The first photo is some of the good stuff:
Bonney ZB2022 Bon-E-Con DBE 5/8 x 11/16
Bonney E1619 DOE 1/2 x 19/32
Vlchek WBH 2022 DBE 5/8 x 11/16
Wizard M2048 DOE 3/8 x 7/16
Wizard H2674 socket 12-pt. 1/2 dr. 1-1/16"
Cat (Billings) 5B787 DOE 1-1/4 x 1-5/16
Cat (Billings) 5B782 DOE 9/16 x 5/8
New Britain NS92 Drag Link Socket
Wright 6838 Impact 6-pt. 3/4 dr. Socket 1-3/16"
Barcalo "roof" DOE 5/16 x 13/32
Barcalo "scoop" DBE 1/2 x 9/16
Barcalo slip joint pliers
Indestro Super 2737 18" 3/8 dr. extension (the ball was rusty, but came loose and works perfectly)
Proto USA 1" drive universal. Missing ball, but I found a spring that fits and the hardware store sells 5/16" bearing balls)
Proto USA stubby screwdriver
Tru-Fit 3003 DBE 5/8 x 11/16
Tru-Fit DOE 19/32 x 5/8
Plomb USA 3031 DOE 5/8 x 3/4
Plomb USA 1224 Combo 3/4
P&C 3R Rubber Hammer
P&C 1528 short L wrench 6-pt. "5-8" (the handle is 8-1/2" long and quite stout, compared to the earlier version. The earlier version, and all the catalog listings have a 11-1/2" long handle)

Photo #2 is the rest of the haul:
Putty Knife
No-Name offset screwdriver
DeWalt impact locking extension
3 long drill bits
three-corner file and handle
Handle (new) for a 4-6 oz. ball pein hammer
Mossberg No. 235 DOE
Williams Soft Face Hammer (just like the one I bought new in 1973)
Williams 525 "Kelly Press" Set Screw DOE 1/4 x 5/16 (Kelley made printing presses)
Williams 586 Engineers box end 9/16 square
New Britain/Craftsman 1/4" drive socket box
Long-C 1729 DOE 5/8 x 3/4
"CRAFTSMAN" BE 12-pt. 1/2 dr. "5-8" (not long-C, perhaps earlier)
Craftsman chisel
Craftsman WF #3 Phillips

EDIT:
I forgot to include a T-Handle in the photos. Photo #3 shows the wrench, and Photo #4 shows the drive end.

It is a 1/2 drive handle. There are no markings at all on this pieces. The bends in the handle are identical to a set of Walden Worcester wrenches I own, but those all have integral sockets. The drive end seems just like later Walden 1/2 drive pieces. The swedge retaining the detent ball is quite distinctive.

Can anyone identify this handle?

Notice all the 5/8 x 11/16 wrenches. :headscrat
The tiny Barcalo "roof" DOE is sooooo cute! Also an odd size - 13/32".
The missing retainer ball on the Proto 1" universal will be an easy fix. I need that for my set.
I also found (not shown) a 3/8 dr. 14MM impact socket to replace one I lost from a set.
I now have 4 of the 8 Cat DOE's from that set.

What are the odds? Actually, long time followers of the Garage Sale threads know that this happens all the time. Just four days after scoring two vintage United Delco parts cabinets at an estate sale, I find a matching third one on FB Marketplace. I drove an hour and paid $75 for this one, but should now have plenty of garage storage for car parts, filters, and lubricants. 1f3dabdf2978b66bb81bf139917929c1.jpg5f9741bbdcfd18d79331c5c5d1a3fc9e.jpg

That ol' Garage Sale thread magic! I think the weirdest and longest "run" we had was Red Ryder BB guns a few years ago.

Also a few years back I remember the run of baby wiltons with power arm stands... Lots of suckage within a few weeks if I remember correctly. Actually there also was quite a run on Jerry cans a few years back but I cant recall the gauge:D

I bumped into a WWII collector at the flea Sunday who had a Jerry can in his hand. I commented on it, and he pointed out that it was made my one of the less common producers, and was marked under the handles, rather than on the bottom. He said he has a "wall" of WWII Jerry cans, and only the rarity of this one caused him to buy it.

BB--

It's a shame most of the logo handles are lost. What are your plans there?
OR,

It is fortunate that there's at least one half-handle left to serve as a repro model (even though it was installed upside down back in the day!). I've got some 3/16" plate steel on order, and plan to cut semi-circles of the same dimensions as that one remaining handle, then weld on studs and mounting bolts to get the same stand-off. Then, I'll paint them to match the logo. We'll see how it turns out. Might be the impetus I need to start documenting projects again on my garage thread, which I let go cold back in July.

Hello garage sale hunters! It's been a long time. I need to post a few things for sure. I haven't been out like I was last year but I've picked up a few goodies.

I found this Wilton Tradesman 1750 for sale. Odd thing to me is the city on the metal sticker is Des Plaines, Illinois. Now that's only 10 mins from Schiller Park...but Des Plaines? I believe Wilton went from Chicago to Schiller Park late 1956 thru 1957. There were also some years the tradesman was made overseas, maybe china(80s?), but I think this is USA, the pipe jaws are legit. Haven't seen the bottom. Older than 1995 because it doesn't say made in USA.

I just expect the label to say Schiller Park. If the sticker was missing as it usually is I wouldn't have been the wiser. I have seen a Wilton Tradesman 1750 from 1976 with a Schiller Park sticker. I attached a pic of this one for reference.

Any intel on Wilton Des Plaines IL?

Thank you and hope everyone is doing well!!!

A neighbor was retiring and was getting rid of all his work wear. Picked up a dozen Carhartt jeans and overalls and a nice Carhartt jacket with hoodie for $20! Some of the jeans are still in the plastic. And it all fits!

Nice score!
It baffles me that a guy would retire and get rid of his jeans. (Unless they no longer fit him) I’ve been retired for almost 12 years and still wear jeans (Levi 501) almost every day. :dunno:

Does anyone else have a collecting nemesis? Perhaps it's someone you've been sniped by on eBay so many times that you know the first and last digits of his username. Perhaps it's that guy you know by sight and not necessarily by name from behind, because he always wears the same jacket and ball cap, who always manages to be ahead of you in line at the same estate sale. Mine, and let's call him "Henry," just for convenience, has been with me off and on for a few years, ever since I made the cardinal error of telling him where my favorite flea market is. I was just trying to be friendly, but like a hunter giving away his tree stand tree, or a fisherman giving away his hole, I quickly regretted it! "Henry" commenced to not only be there every blessed week for a year or so straight, but he arrived at the crack of dawn, forcing me to arrive even earlier, or relinquish the good stuff to him. I haven't seen him for the longest time. Probably a few years. Until this morning! I may as well have just spilled my coffee all over myself or realized that I had forgotten my wallet at home, such was the down-heartening effect.

I have to admit, there may have been a little extra spring in my step because of his presence, a little more pace to my steps, a little more methodical focus to my table strafing surveillance, and a little more determination in my efforts. Nothing like a nemesis to bring out your A game sometimes. :)

Despite being "Henryed" on such a fine morning, he didn't notice me, thankfully, I went the opposite direction, we never crossed paths, and I managed to make a decent haul (Lugz 2021_30).

Hard to believe, but NONE of the stuff inside the red Indestro Super era box belongs there; it was just the box I wanted.

The Cornwell rat and speeder are just potential future UNAIU trade bait.

Smoke (and Don) will recognize the early curved vixen file holder, which continues the "lightning always strikes at least twice on GJ" magic.

Some Chrome-X-Quality sockets and two orphan drill bit sockets.

A pressed steel adjustable I have never seen before.

Some pliers that 4.c will enjoy.

Unknown but irresistible wrench set.

A Saltus wrench. (Yes, there is a Saltus wrench there.)

A Duro Circle-DC tappet wrench that I needed.

And an early brace bit type gasket cutter from an unexpected and wildly popular brand.

The books are THE HERB HUNTER'S GUIDE (not that kind of herb!) and an Audel.

I like how you changed his name to protect his identity. :)

This Union made hinged drop front carpenter's box was just a tad too steep for me to pull the trigger on without having a solid immediate idea of what I would do with it. It's metal-clad wood.
