If the store pulls the item just because it is out of season or not selling, I find it hard to believe the manufacturer would give them a refund for destroying the product.
You can imagine what you like, I'm just sharing the facts of how it works.
Pretty much everything sold to a major retailer is either sold on consignment or with a buy-back guarantee. No one would buy from them otherwise, it's a requirement to sell to major stores. If it doesn't sell, for whatever reason, they either return it at manufacturer's expense for a refund, or in most cases, manufacturer directs them to dispose of it and refunds the cost. The reason it did not sell is irrelevant.
When you consider the manufacturer's COGS is in the range of 10% of retail, it just doesn't make sense to return product if it will cost more than manufactured cost.
