Hi everyone,
I got my NewAge Cabinets on Monday. I didn't know about garagejournal earlier and since I ordered on Cyber Monday of 2020, Dirty was out of the market by then. I'd heard about the cabinets from the garageporn subreddit. I wrote a couple of guys with Lamborginis and Porsches, figuring that if they posted their photos, they must be good cabinets and they confirmed it. Going to have to thank them next.
I *strongly* urge that anybody who wants sets call, not order off the web site. For example, the setup below cost the same as the setup with only two upper cabinets but with a base cabinet with two doors instead of five drawers. I preferred both base cabinets to have five drawers and I got the undercounter storage space back with the two free upper cabinets. Also, when I ordered, the set I wanted was only available in red or two-tone gray/black and I wanted black, but the representative was able to specify that for me. I always dread phone reps, but even with their (often) heavy accents, the reps I have dealt with are fine.
I'm glad I got the Pro series. It seems well built and heavy.
There were some glitches from the shippers. First, the shipper was supposed to delivery two weeks ago but called the morning of delivery to say that the driver freaked out when he saw how steep my driveway was and left without our load. Well, I know my driveway is steep so even though I paid for white glove delivery, my carpenter and I were waiting to help them (it's not our first time at the rodeo). Alright, so now I had to pay him for a day of work since he couldn't just up and go somewhere else. Luckily we had a couple of other things for him to do in the garage in preparation so we did that and we were much more ready as a result. We must have been the first or second stop for the truck on Monday. The driver and sidekick weren't the brightest and we told them they'd help but they waved us off until they were in the area on the 18% grade and getting into trouble with one of the big locker cabinets. So we ran over and helped them, but the top of the cabinet got banged on the driveway anyway. I called NewAge to let them know. They said they could send a replacement (no word on whether I could keep this one) or give me $250 and I just figured I didn't want to deal with it so I took the $250. We pounded the dents out pretty well. I'll see it, but if you visit, chances are you won't.
I'm about 70% of the way to being done in the photo. We ran out of time to install the two lofts we bought and we have to reorganize (and sell) some of the bike gear. I also want to have a rolling workbench so that I can work outside in the summer. Also there is no safe way to use my compound miter saw on that shallow worktop, let alone my drill press. I have 56" of space that I can use under the right countertop, although I have a height constraint. I didn't want to wall mount all of my cabinets, but the concrete floor at the back wall is over an 1" higher than it is at the front of the cabinets so while the front feet are maxxed out, the back feet are all the way up. In fact, due to this situation, I'm going to have to rip the bamboo countertop on a table saw because the slatboard that is supposed to fit on top of the countertop extends 1.5" below it!
Anyway, so what that means is that I have only 35 1/2" of clearance for whatever cabinet I put under the countertop on the right. I could get a black pro series rolling cabinet, that would fit fine even with a 1" countertop, but that looks different enough from the Pro series that I'm thinking of just skipping the long wait and buying a rolling
Craftsman bottom cabinet.
I noticed a lot of reposts in this thread, but I'm new here, is it bad form to repost this elsewhere? It might get a different set of eyes there.
